Hmm... someday I will manage to leave North America. Someday. :P Haven't had the right motivation yet. Also, dunno that I'd be comfortable doing Japan alone. I can handle anywhere that speaks English by myself but outside of that realm I need backup.

Or learn the basics of a language. I got by in France much easier than in Germany because I can speak a good bit of French. In Germany I just kept saying "Ich bin auslander" or "I am foreigner."

I was there with my sister and at one point some Germans were attempting to speak with her. Her response? "Nein Deutsch." Which means "No, German." She should have said "Kein Deutsch." which means "No German." Of course, we didn't know that until we returned home and spoke with my dad.

Mostly I stick with English.

Do you have any idea what it costs to data roam? :P Also, worth noting that not all cellphones work abroad. Mine apparently does, but only if I notify Verizon ahead of time and pay for access in the country I'm visiting.

I don't browse for apps too often. Other than the basics I have some puzzle games for killing time and that's about it. Oh and the flashlight app I always forget about.

The alternative to data roaming is to buy a SIM card for the country you're going to and then call your provider and ask them if they will give you a code to unlock your phone (that is to say, root/jailbreak it). Or you can just hack it, but that's illegal (yes, it's illegal in the US to hack a lock off of a device you legally own. Isn't DMCA lovely?)

The basics of Japanese are intimidating and strange, it's tough to get into it, but it can be done.  There are a few people in Izu who can speak English, and I am sure some of the hotel staffs and restaurant people can, but they are going to be few and far between.  This is a pretty un-cosmopolitan place.

I have mixed feelings about my cell phone.  It's kind of cool and a little bit useful, but...  I can't shake the feeling that it's just completely extraneous.

How convenient, I am an Aus-lander. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

This sort of thing is just not right. The entire purpose of having separate states is so that the people of each state can decide for themselves how they want things to be. Nobody has any business rallying or lobbying for anything in a state other than the one they live in.

Today it was bright and sunny. Then it started to look like it wanted to rain for awhile. Then in poured like crazy for a little bit, then just stopped. It's been all dry until it drizzled a bit just now.

It isn't right??

Neither is Chicago electing Robin Kelly to congress to force her anti-gun Chicago corrupt agenda on other states or Being forced healthcare that by electing Rick Scott governor proved isn't wanted, or by Risking the future of this country on an ultra dangerous progressive Ed Markey that wants to destroy the pipeline project that will create jobs in a state he doesn't even live in.

So Yes, I believe preserving the interests of this fine country and doing all I can to defeat the left is not only my calling but it is the drive of my life now.

Yesterday I started with writing my bachelor paper, nearly one month after the deadline, hehe. This deserves a party, I think

Bachelor party!  Woo!

The rainy season started in my region this week.  It rained for two days, but the entire next week is sunny and warm everyday.  Way to call that right, Japan.

I have never been to a bachelor party and probably never will, because me and all of my closest guy friends either wouldn't want to have one or are unlikely to ever get married.

Every so often I joke with my best friend about how he gets to be my maid of honour now. I can't wait to get married. :P

I could go either way on marriage. If I meet the right woman, sure. However, after the last woman in my life (long term) I am skeptical. My ex is currently a junkhead. She went downhill fast after we broke up.

I'm not yet sure about marriage. I like the idea of marriage, so there must be a romanticist buried deep inside me. But on the other hand I feel it is an old-fashioned institution that lost its meaning, plus the usual problems of 'what if it ends'. I think in the end it depends on my partner, my feelings at that moment, and what option is the most beneficial (in terms of money, mostly). Ah well, I am still young.

I'm not planning to have a bachelor party, I'm not really that kind of person. Or maybe if the bachelor party consists of playing Settlers of Catan all night long with some good friends, while drinking Leffe beer.

I don't know If I can handle just one person for such a long period of time, to me it seems like it would get boring.

I can handle a long term commitment and I would prefer the stability and consistency of it over something short term.

My fear is that I am going to end up getting into a long term relationship situation only to find that it interferes with my life more than it adds to it. Having a second person with their own wants and needs to worry about inevitably demands compromise and complicates things, and I kinda like being free to do as I please without anyone else having a say in it. So, if I am ever going to get married, the terms would have to be that we're both free to participate in separate activities without dragging each other along if we aren't both interested... and of course, no kids, because they're too much of a burden.

Kids are work, that's for sure.  Mine are great, though, I can't complain.  Being married hasn't really done anything to change my life.  My wife and I were going to be together forever anyways, so signing the papers, meh, whatever.

I could really go for some pizza right now.

Pizza doesn't sound like a bad idea, Is pizza in Japan similar to the US, or do they put their own spin on it like Brooklyn and Chicago?
