I saw one apple produce that said "Designed in California by Apple."

The first thought that came to mind was "No way! I thought this was designed by Pear!" :whatevs: It had the apple logo on it, so the "by Apple" seemed redundant to me.

I like when they use pear laptops on TV shows since they can't advertise apple products.

On Iron Chef America they just cover it with their own logo.

I know the song, but I've never seen that music video before... It's really weird. Also, I had no idea the guy was black.

We're not that far along yet, Chp. :P

Also, I heard '90s music?

Scary thought - that song's older than I am.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Good god, astronelson, that statement makes me feel positively ancient.  I remember dancing to that song...

Bonus fun fact!  All the kids here are into hip hop dancing and wear clothing like they just walked out of a Paula Abdul video!

My nuclear physics oral exam went well. I felt underprepared, but I got through it. The results for the exam aren't finalised, but mine apparently should be in the distinction range.

Now I just need to get through the approximately million other pieces of assessment I need to do...

I know that feeling... that sounded like my entire experience during midterms for the second semester this year. While they were all nicely spaced apart, it ended up being I had a midterm every week of February and March except for the week off we get. Not to mention major papers, assignments, etc... my last midterm was a mere week and a half before finals start. Sure... "mid"term. :P But everything, including finals, came out nicely and I now have a fairly high average for university. :)

So good luck to you and everything else!

I was imagining a nuclear physicist examining your mouth for radiation or something before I realized what you meant by oral exam.

Also "oops" on my last number.

Nothing from the 90s can be older than I am. I was born in the 80s...

We all know the most classic 80s music.

Ah, Pre 2004, back when the music on the radio was real music, staying true to the music and no disrespecting it.

I have 4 records in my record collection. 3 of them are by Rage Against the Machine and the other... Pat Benatar. I thought I was buying a Led Zeppelin record but when I returned home with it I found it actually had a Pat Benatar vinyl inside. Drat! Foiled by the ole switcheroo.

Pre 2004?

Good gravy...  I remember when music was played on record players with huge vinyl circle thingies...

Turntables are still the bedrock of DJing, and records due to sound quality will outlive CDs, Cds are already at all time lows and fading quickly, there isn't much purpose for them now due to portable USB, but records still can hold their own when it comes to stereos.

For example a Technics 1200MK2 cost more then $1,200 right now and if you use equipment like Traktor or Serto and do vinyl manipulation, you get a far better sound and experience then using an NDX or even an Pioneer CDJ-2000.

I own both myself and and speak from experience when I say, I perfer using the 1200 when mixing.

I have zero records, but my mother has quite a lot. Alas, we have no way to play them so they are gathering dust at the attic of my grandma. I have around 30 cd's in my small collection. I'd love a bigger collection, but alas, cd's cost money and I am but a poor (and especially: lazy) student.

I am still in the habit of buying music on CD if I can because the two most mainstream mp3 download services do not meet my approval. iTunes I refuse to use because it's Apple and I hate Apple, period. Amazon I am more than willing to buy merchandise from (including CDs), but their mp3 service is just blatantly user-unfriendly and invasive, and after using it once I felt violated and swore to never do so again. There are other sites out there that you can download music from which are far more civilized (wonderful invention: right click and save as) but the scope of their catalogues is generally limited to non-mainstream artists because major record labels only release stuff through iTunes and Amazon.

Personally, I think it's quite perverse to have that level of exclusivity in where content is available from (back when CDs were still king you could buy them from pretty much any store), but unfortunately exclusive deals are how big companies like to do business these days.

If you buy modern records, they came with a paper card the size of a business card, called a "Drop card" and you can also download the entire vinyl in Mp3 format as well as have the physical record.

Aside from mp3, I do like the idea of having something I can put on the shelf that displays the music I own, plus if unable to play, It makes great wall art :P

I don't ever buy music. I just listen to it on YouTube.

The problem I have with just listening to music on YouTube, or Pandora, or Spotify, or whatever is that I am not in possession of what I am listening to and thus access to it could at any time be lost if the content owner or provider sees fit. Things on the internet are perishable. But things on my hard drive are preserved and I will have access to them independent of the whims of any licensing deals or other business proceedings.

Also, such "non-possession" methods of listening to music do not work in the car.

I've found myself really drawn to Kevin MacLeod's music recently. It helps that it's in a lot of videos I watch on YouTube.

I also happen to like Kevin McCloud's series Grand Designs, which is entirely coincidental.

I see his music used all the time on YouTube. I never really pay attention to it, though. I prefer commentary when I watch LPs or other gaming videos, which are pretty much all I watch.

I buy almost all of my music digitally now. There are only 2 bands for which I make an honest attempt to find a tangible CD from. Pink Floyd and... well I'm sure you can all guess who the other band is.

That reminds me. Spidey, this question is predominantly aimed at you being that you live in Japan. Do you find that the phrase "Koi no yokan" is often used in that culture? I'm also curious if you've heard of it without googling it. Although feel free to do so if you haven't.
