What I have never understood is the fascination of playing a game "online". Usually I prefer a purely single player experience... and if there is going to be a second real person involved I would strongly rather that person be sitting next to me, not remotely connected.

I have a very competitive personality, I tend to really get into games when playing online, so much that I've had to replace my PS3 controller 3 times.

I have always been a fan of an online FPS style game. I really only played Quake II, Quake III and Unreal Tournament 2 in the that regard and that was years ago. Now I occasionally play Quake Live a few games a week. Campers always bothered me but sniping is acceptable on the right maps, especially in a CTF game. In DM it seems a tad cowardly, but if some guy is sniping, just go find them like you would a camper. It becomes part of the game to target who you please. I don't even read the chatter anymore and all I'll ever type myself is "gg" or "ns".

I'm a very place-sensitive person, so visiting historical sites is always something special for me.

You'd love it here in Japan.  You can't walk more than three feet without tripping over a place where a samurai hacked some dude's leg off, or the shogun's forces faced off with a rogue daimyo and a bloody massacre ensued.

Australia doesn't have quite as many places of historical notability, and they're over a larger area. Almost all our battles were fought overseas. The Eureka Stockade stands out as an exception.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

The thing is that Australia, like every country in the Americas, is in modern times inhabited primarily by people of European descent who colonized it - not by the original native people, whose history has been mostly suppressed out of mind.

Of course, most Native American groups did not build structures with the same kind of intended permanence that Europeans did, so the lack of historical leftovers from them is to be expected even regardless of actions taken against them. A wigwam or a teepee just doesn't last like a castle...

Still, there are notable exceptions. The Aztecs, Inca, and Maya left behind some impressive ruins. You then have some pre-columbian pueblo structures still surviving in the desert southwest, and the mounds in various parts of the east.

I went to McSorley's today. It is an interesting place.

I'd love to go to NYC and see the different historical places and beautiful architecture.

Being the atmosphere sensitive person I am, I am very lucky to live in Philadelphia. In this city, America declared independence, wrote the constitution, the flag was created, had the worlds tallest building 1901-1906, and was where George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, you name them, had been.

Lots of historical things can be said for lots of places (everything that ever happened is a historical event). I generally see the historical event isolated from the modern place. It also really depends on the historical things you find important or fascinating. I can imagine not everyone feels the same things when they visit the Berlin Wall. I went to Sagunt, in Spain, which is the birthplace of Joaquin Rodrigo (I didn't go there because of this fact, but it was a nice bonus), but I can imagine most people would think 'meh, I don't care about Rodrigo'. Very personal stuff :)

The primary change in Philadelphia that's occurred in the past 20 years is the William Penn rule going away. The rule stated that no building could go higher than The statue of William Penn on top of City Hall. However, in 1987 One Liberty Place was built at 945 feet tall, breaking this. The skyline has changed in many ways. My grandmother told me once about eating lunch at the at the time high point of 200 feet. That's in he shadow of Philly's tallest, the Comcast Center.

Every part of Philly has seen change in recent times. Old city Philadelphia has seen some recent high-rise construction (with more on the way) personally, I think that's center city business, but... Oh well. In West Philadelphia, the skyline was dominated by apartments and the 200 foot steeple of Christ Memorial Church. However, this gothic architectural masterpiece collapsed in 2004, leaving the remains of the sanctuary sitting there. Pretty sad, actually. A collapse of a great structure is always a sad thing. That church is sitting there today, and I hear it's quite the popular place for homeless people, also pretty sad. In South Philly, sports city, Veterans Stadium is gone. Added to the skyline were Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financia Field, home t the Phillies and Eagles (2 horrible teams)

Yeah, I could talk about the parts of Philly for well, 10,000 posts. Maybe I could make some Philly BATs and put them up here on Simtropolis?

There's still a famous scarred tree here, which serves as an interesting artifact.

Astro is right, we haven't really seen true war. Altough Darwin was flattened in bombing raids, and Japanese midget subs did get into Sydney Harbour and sink a ferry, killing 19.

Unfortunately I doubt the whole need to go online thing will really hurt XBox One sales. After all, it hasn't hurt sales of all the PC games with that "feature". People won't like it and will complain about it like hell, but at the end of the day gamers want to play their games and will put up with the nonsense in order to do so. As I've said before, crack addicts will continue to buy crack regardless of the business practices of the drug dealers.

I don't do much console game playing these days. I wonder how long it will take before a friend of mine buys the xbox one and I give it a whirl. Probably a while.

No, Megaman was not made by Nintendo, but Sonic and Snake are too.

As a Zeda junkie the Smash Bros characters I want to see are Majora, Darunia, Zant and Demise

But in Smash Bros Lucas ad Olimar are my men.

And on gaming, my LP of Ocarina of Time isn't going too well as I lost someof y data in the game, including the most annoying mini-game that's not from Mario Party.

If we're talking Smash Brothers, I've been Samus and nearly undefeated (at least in the original game) since 1999. Just sayin' that girl kicks butt.

I used to like Samus as a character but not so much anymore because she lacks a good put away move. The fact that using a final smash makes her Transform in Brawl also detracts.

Was fond of Ike for a bit after that but he's clunky and doesn't cover ground well.

Currently my go-to characters in Brawl are Kirby, Pikachu, and Mr. Game and Watch. All have speed, range, and power.

Mewtwo was great in Melee, but his replacement in Brawl (Lucario) is meh.

Also, Olimar, Diddy Kong, and Jigglypuff are hands down the worst characters in Brawl.

359: Surprisingly, I use Kirby. No love for Yoshi. Even though he has one of the worst knockback, I do enjoy his excellent recovery and smash attacks. Plus, Kirbycides and "hiiiiiiiiii!" spams are fun.
