This thread is to consolidate reports on Origin/SimCity server outages and to share your current experience with SC servers as it affects your ability to play the game in order to help and update others.

 

(This thread is NOT intended to discuss your opinions of always online or your opinions of Origin itself -- )

 

Report in if:

 

• You are unable to install, update or launch the game
• You were booted or your game fell out of synch
• Other connectivity issues related to the game

 

In all cases, it's helpful to others to report your location and time of connectivity loss so that we can compare notes.

Hi Mayors -- some of you may have noticed we've implemented Waiting Rooms on some of our busy servers. If you have any questions about how the waiting room (or our servers) work, this FAQ should help. 

Remember, if you are placed in a waiting room, you are always welcome to join a new server that is available. Just note that cities are not shared between servers, so joining a new server will mean building a new city. 

Q: I’ve be put in a waiting room? What does that mean? 

A: In cases of heavy load on a particular server, our systems will automatically trigger a waiting room. The waiting room will prevent anyone not currently logged into that server from joining. Once the timer on the waiting room has counted down completely, it will attempt to log you back in the server. If successful, you will be able to join. If the server is still busy, the time will recommence. The waiting room will remain up until traffic on the server returns to normal levels. Remember, if a waiting room pops up, you can always join and play on a different server. 

Q: How will I know if a server is full, or near to full? 

A: You will see a Server Status Alert on the SimCity launcher. This indicates whether a server is available, full, or busy. 

Q: What does it mean if a server is listed as FULL or BUSY? 

A: If a server is listed as BUSY, this is a notification that there is heavy activity on that particular server. You can still join it if you wish to start a new region or city; or load a pre-existing city. If a server is listed as FULL, you will not be allowed to join that server unless you have an earlier city saved on it. If you already have a city saved on that server, the server will be accessible. 

Q: Are servers country or language specific? 

A: SimCity is Region Free. It doesn’t matter where you live, you can join and play on any server you’d like. 

Q: How many servers can I exist on? 

A: Players will be able to play on multiple servers, with a maximum of 10 regions on each. 

Q: Are my cities and regions transferable from server to server? 

A: Each server is discrete which means that cities and regions are not transferable.

I've been basically unable to play all morning on the North America West 1 server, even though it says "available". This is garbage. EA/Maxis need to fix this pronto, or I will be demanding a refund.

UPDATE: I can't even change servers or start the game now. It hangs on "updating" indefinitely. All servers appear to be down. Anyone else?

Played for over 2 hours this morning with no issues.  Stopped for a few hours, went back and haven't been able to get on.  I am patient and confident they will sort things out.  When I did play this morning, I really enjoyed the game and I am now understanding the roll of regional play.  No point complaining.  It won't fix the servers any faster.

Still out for me.  Tried getting on the European servers, still nothing.  If they had a single player option...  I won't go there in this thread but you know what I mean.  Hopefully it gets up soon.  Please inform this thread when it does.

I got in after 2 hours 12 minute wait, loaded up my city, then got a street car not connected error....checked the transport map, noticed i missed a tiny upgrade bit...upgraded it....game crashed out...back in queue...

I've been able to put in about 3 hours in today. They keep bringing the servers down for updates. Right at this very minute, servers are busy and aren't allowing logins. I'm patiently waiting to play again.

 

Game is great when the servers are up and running.

This is acutally a good thing if you think about it, they are fixing the server load issues.

 

If I were a betting man, and I am, I would bet the devs didn't get much sleep last night and that tonight will be another long night.

 

And.... The great thing about online games is on the fly updates!

This is pretty frustrating. I was playing and noticed that I was no longer connected to the server, howerver I was able to continue playing. After some time of playing offline I got kicked to the main menu. I have since been unable to reconnect to the server. I restarted the game and now can't get past the 'patcher' because it thinks the servers are offline. I can't even select a different server.

Nope. I was playing earlier (on EU server) and then *poof*. Haven't been able to play for a handful of hours on any server. For past about hour-ish I can't even select a server.

 

Once it did let me play for about 8 minutes. That was fun.

Was just playing 5 minutes ago, but servers disconnected.. trying to relaunch.

 

I *did* find a possible solution for when the launcher hangs on "Checking for Updates" (I know that plagued me this afternoon) .. EA has a help topic on it.

After that Oceanic worked for a solid three hours. Until I quit for supper. But weird thing is in the top left corner it perpetually read 'lost connection to server.' It still let me play without any pauses but it was like that for the whole time I played. I wonder if anything got saved. Even though I was allowed to play through supposedly 'disconnected.' And yes now there are no server options for me. Assuming they are doing something dramatic.

I got on for about an hour just now, but it disconnected, I paused and held the city trying to wait for it to hopefully reconnect long enough to save..but nah...my city went from 105K back down to 74k...GG an hour... Ive never once asked for a refund before because I know its 1) impossible to 2) unlikely, but you can get it if you hound them to death.....and for once in my PC gaming career....i think im gonna try to just pester to death till i get my money.

Well I think it boots you after 20 minutes of disconnection.  So it is possible that you had brief moments of connectivty during those 2 hours, so the city may be in the state it was in 20 minutes before your boot.

I have had that red message before after a couple minutes and i got booted after a couple hours. when i logged back in my city was fine except for a couple little changes. not sure how but hope this gives at least a little hope.

I have had that red message before after a couple minutes and i got booted after a couple hours. when i logged back in my city was fine except for a couple little changes. not sure how but hope this gives at least a little hope.

Yeah me too. I was on Queue for Oceanis, but when it said pick another server I just picked Oceanis again and it let me right in. My city is still there. I didn't lose any of it even though the red message was there for at least an hour. Maybe that doesn't happen everytime but it definietly didn't erase my city.

Well I can attest to none of the servers currently working. I managed about an hour of play at around 01:00 GMT (on the Oceanic server) but got disconnected and have been unable to reconnect all day (and certainly not for lack of trying).

 

The game loads to the launch screen just fine, but once I attempt to either restart the tutorial or start a new city I am met with the error message "Unable to connect to the SimCity servers."
