I noticed that the Origin version of the game has an update. Anyone know what this changed? Did it possibly fix the whole unpatched executable or whatever? Or something else? Or perhaps nothing important at all?

Honestly unless you are using (have access too) the Origin version, it's unlikely you'd be able to dig into this. Another way of saying those of us without the broken version aren't in a position to help you much.

However, all you have to do is look for the SimCity 4.exe which should be located somewhere inside Program Files (x86)\Origin (or whatever folder Origin uses). Somewhere inside that will be a folder for each game, including SimCity 4, the .exe would be in the Apps subfolder. Of course it might be easier to get Windows to search for SimCity 4.exe ;). When you find it, right click on it and select Properties, here you should find the version number (file version - under the Details tab). 1.1.640.0 or 1.1.641.0 are the Magic numbers for fully patched editions, anything lower than 1.1.638.0 means it still doesn't have the vital EP1 patch.

It could simply be that EA pushed an unrelated update that handles how the App interacts with Origin, but fingers crossed they finally fixed the borked version.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Well, EA finally nerfed Origin for good recently, so, the update's probably benign and just sends the signal over to the newer EA Desktop App, so it doesn't/can't open in Origin anymore.

That said, it is EA, so, who knows wtf they're up to honestly.

I actually managed to pick up the EA App version when they actually put it on sale for $5 quite a few months ago--was finally cheap enough to pick up for investigatory purposes/morbid curiosity.  Because the EA App has this bizarre tendency to instead try to launch the GOG or Steam versions of the game if they're installed (and particularly in the instance of the Steam version, thinks the other versions are "corrupt" and tries to nerf them), I'll have to do a bit of reconfiguration in order to test it properly.

And it definitely doesn't include Fractional Angle Roads, unlike the screenshots EA uses on their official site and in the EA App to try to promote their version of the game . . .

(And yes, for those who don't know, they actually took a NAM development screenshot (originally from memo) from 10+ years ago, and a bunch of images that appear to be from "Show Us" threads and CJs, many showing non-vanilla cities, and they're using them on their store pages.)
