I'm just sarcastically bashing Maxis's new game.  I definitely liked SimCity 4 more than Societies or 3000, but those are the only ones I've played.

*Never played 2000... and I know next to nothing about it aside for a few screenshots and the cover-art having a UFO :/

 

*Also never played SC2013, just throwing it in there after watching countless videos, in depth reviews, as many as possible comments from both sides of market (casual fans, hardcore fans, and the developers), word of mouth... everything, I feel like I can sincerely rate it. I know it's MUCH better than societies (at this point, even something as dreadful as Mall Tycoon would be better than that horse radish... But it still won't be as great as 3000... 3D, the glassbox, or the color filters won't save it).

Avoided Societies, have not yet picked up the new SimCity.   Those of you who wanted to play SimCity Social, it's being closed.

 

My rankings:  SimCity 4 has been the peak for me with everything possible for it.  SC2K and the original SC only narrowly beat out SimCity 3000 for me, because SC got me interested, and SC2K came out only a few months after a friend turned me on to SC.  The original SC made me think "hey, this is really cool." and SC2K a few months later made think "Wait, what, it's 4am, I have to be up for work in a few hours, what happened?"  SimCity Social never lived up to the potential it had in my view.  It somewhat worked for what it was supposed to be, and I know many people who enjoyed it, but it just never reeled me in.

Same here. I played all of them in chronological order, and I liked each successor a little more than its respective predecessor. I only edited out SC:S and SC2013 because I don't own these and have never played them. They appear to be so uninteresting for me that I wouldn't even include them in this list.

For me the order is:

 

- SC4 (very addictive)

- OpenTTD (not a SimCity game, but almost as equally addictive and same genre kinda)

- SC3K (kind of addictive

- SC2013 (and still dropping lower with every new update. Beta playing experience was... dull)

- SC2K (was not addictive to me and never really figured this game out)

 

SC1 and SC:S are not on the list because I have played neither of them.

Simcity 4 - I played this from when I first bought it in 2004 to quite recently. I never got much into modding myself so only had the vanilla game to play with however. The frozen angle gets annoying after a while. Also the disappearing cars. Main issue is lack of curvy roads.

 

Simcity 2000 - First played in 2003. Became my favourite video game. Remains 'playable' although obviously it is more limited than 4 due to space restrictions. The graphics I don't mind but certainly I think the future is in 3D.

 

Simcity 3000 - First played 2009. Seemed a logical link between 2000 and 4.

 

Simcity - Played the online version. It has a number of flaws that if fixed would enhance it. However my own project Virtucity never got far beyond it so.

 

Simcity 2013 - Pre-ordered digital deluxe edition. Haven't played it for a month or so now.
