The beta is only available in English. Try switching the Origin language to English.

I think it doesn't really matter what language your launcher is in. I've got a key from the Nvidia giveaway and the email I got said the following:

Beginning January 25 at 9AM PST, go to "My Games" to download and install the SimCity Beta.

So chances are everyone will have to download it that same day.

To anyone that already has the Beta, how large is the download? I won't to know whether to bother trying to get a key in one of these giveaways...

It requires 10GB of space.

I am aware of the system requirements, but I doubt the beta download would be that big...

Do you need to be 18 to get the beta key from nvidia's facebook page?

Title says all. Thanks ahead of time.

My goodness, looks like I'll be spending time leeching off my libraries 30Mb/s network. It'd take me all weekend just to download that on my home connection.

I've read of the SimCity.com forums that the actual beta is around 2GB.

This is pretty pathetic, what was the point of signing up back in august? i filled out the info honestly, do they only want certain age groups, people with powerful pc's, etc?

Thanks. Since I have a daily limit of 1.2GB, I think I'll unfortunately have to just wait for the final release :(

The reason NVIDIA is probably limiting their keys to 18+ is because of COPA (Children's Online Privacy Act) regs. Since you have to give personal information like your email and name to get a key, NVIDIA is probably choosing to stay away from any marketing to children controversy (real or perceived).

My guess is that EA thinks that most people who signed up for beta way back when will probably buy the game regardless if they get into the beta or not (though myself, and I'm sure plenty others like me won't). By giving away keys en masse just before the beta starts they create a lot of hype and get a lot of people interested who otherwise wouldn't have been. Afterall, this "beta" is nothing more than a marketing demo. The fact that it's only on for a weekend and resets after an hour of play prooves that.

Still, there can't be that many that has pre ordered. I think at the very least we should also have gotten a beta key, so we could feel a little bit appreciated...

well, today I've received an e-mail where they said i was selected for the closed beta, and a code. I introduced it in the Origin and now i have this.

CYlVe5M.jpg

It says that the game "hasn't been published yet" and obviously i can't download it but.... I'm not sure, i didn't know this wasn't supposed to happen until friday :uhm:

The beta is only available in English. Try switching the Origin language to English.

Its not because its english. I have the same thing in english, and I still cant download the beta yet either. They are probably going to only allow you to download it Friday when the beta starts. Thats a bad choice on EA's part IMO because if this game is like any other modern game its probably around 1GB or more in size. People with slow internet connections will spend the entire beta time downloading the game and will never get to play.

OMG they expect you to be on FB 24/7 and refreshing every second? They were gone 40 seconds after NIVIDIA posted a link to 1000 keys on their page.

Edit: #firstworldproblems :P

Sigh, doesn't look like I'm gonna get one of these. If anyone has an extra key, I'd love you to death if you'd share the wealth!

Considering how many keys they're throwing out there as what's basically a marketing stunt and the fact that MasixGuillaume said on twitter that "if you've signed up, you have a very good chance to get in", I'm assuming that everyone who signed up for the beta all those months ago will get a key tomorrow. It would be insane if someone who happened to be on facebook at the right moment has a bigger chance of getting a key than a loyal fan who signed up months ago.

Nevertheless, I'm glad I've already secured myself a key, because with EA, you never know.

I just got my beta key from a twitter giveaway from the legend Ocean Quigley. Yes, the one that posted all the lovely screenshots with Guillaume Pierre. It shows it is indeed possible to get a beta key if you try.

What's the nvidia facebook page?

EDIT: Nevermind, just found it. I was on the wrong one.

EDIT 2.0: If you order SimCity on Amazon.com, they will send you a beta code through email. Once they send you the code, you can then cancel the order. I just did it.

The Amazon scam didn't work for me... Or I just didn't do it right... Well, I guess I'll have to wait until march. So much for preordering early. Never make that mistake again. :)
