I can't believe we have curvy roads but we still have 90 degree railway curves and 45 degree railway bridges...

Is that a dragon I see in the third last picture ????

Turns out those were screenshots for Guild Wars 3

So, are we allowed to share closed beta screenshots? I'd have some I'd like to show.

I find it weird that they say the SEARS tower is 108 stories high in the descrip, but when you see it ingame, it looks way shorter then that.

The Glassbox strikes again!

im tired of explaining that glassbox have NOTHING realy NOTHING to do with graphics...

I wasn't even talking about graphics, of course the two have nothing to do with each other! But doesn't the basic architecture of a Motherboard look like this? (minus the BIOS)

photoon20130301at12402.jpg

Since they're both separate, Glassbox is forwarded by RAM and obviously graphics are forwarded by the AGP.

But, when the game is running, wouldn't the path to the IDE, PCI, and maybe even the USB contribute all to sending volumes of messages to the CPU (for Internet connection, forwarding temporary info from the game, accessing hard drive storage, and etc)? Therefore the FSB to the CPU from the NB would be clogged. So, if the Glassbox requires tremendous amount of allocation, the limiting factor wouldn't be how much RAM the computer has, but instead the size of the FSB. If both the Glassbox and graphics are very top notch, the game would require too much info traveling along the FSB and if it isn't large enough (or fast enough), the game would become very choppy. So, since EA wasn't willing to give up their Glassbox idea nor make the system requirements for the game outrageously large, they decided to cut corners. The best way to do so was to make the game smaller and simpler by taking other heavy RAM-consuming features out like the city tile size and also by somewhat cutting back on a few graphical features. Heck, maybe that even involves making buildings less voluminous to cut back on required 3D space for the game.. Hence the Sears Tower looking puny.

So, even though the Glassbox and the Graphics really have nothing to do with each other, they both still effect the performance of the game together.

It's nice to see the trains slow down when going up hills.

That is how things used to work in general.  Since the mid-2000s, Intel and AMD have been integrating the northbridge into the CPU directly.  Furthermore, starting this year, some Intel CPUs will begin speaking directly to the southbridge.

It's not nice to see the trains slow down at intersections.

We once did this analytics piece on using video and tracking to prevent accidents for trains at crossings.  One given truth was simple.....trains can't and won't slow down.

Seperate point...I'm watching that train thinking it looks sexy...I wish that was the train running through the region view....and not the city view.  Highways and Railroad development should be produced at the region level....since we need to maximise the city building real estate.

I'm pretty sure that's the "Warmer" filter and it makes things look pretty realistic.

The warmer is amazing! It's the juicy one that most people really seemed to have the cartoony pet peeve against.

I guess that means the Front Side Bus width and speed won't be a detrimental factor to game performance once it goes through. Though it will make the CPU's job that much more difficult and they'll have to start designing immensely powerful units to deal with the pressure. As if CPU's weren't already the most expensive component on the MoBo.

It is the warmer filter, and I was running the game on mostly High and some Ultra settings. The graphics with the warmer filter truly are stunning.

I think the Glassbox engine is good engine its good performance, and this is the first game made for that engine, it can only improve :)

Electronics engineers have long known that the CPU functioned significantly faster than the system bus, and any time that a data call had to go from the CPU, you would suffer a performance hit.  As a result, Intel and AMD have been, piece by piece, integrating those components into the CPU to speed things up.  Additionally, Intel and AMD have been increasing the CPU's onboard cache to reduce the number of calls for data from RAM (the chief source of the slowdowns). Meanwhile, the RAM manufacturers have been updating their chip speeds and communication architectures to reduce the bottlenecks induced by calling for data from the RAM modules.

Realistically, CPUs have long been able to handle these kinds of data demands and we don't suddenly need to create new "super CPUs" that have to be immensely expensive to handle the new demands.  In fact, from the CPU's perspective, it would be ideal for everything to speak directly to the CPU as speeds would improve significantly.

Those two look really great. Is it just me, or is the night time in the last picture different from the night time in previous shots? It looks like the SC4 DarkNite mod rather than the usual bright blue.

Yea, definitely looks like some filter being used. I'm impressed with this night shot.

Apparently that's promotional material for (one of) the first DLC packs, and was accidentally made public.

Lol, one of the balloons has a zombie there.

Those filters can really make the difference in the way screenshots look like in this game. I like that.

Anything new on screens shots? That is the topic of this thread.

Later: Okay, we'll try it again... Off topic posts removed. Let's stick to discussing the screen shots and not each other. There is no need to respond to posts that are all ready off topic. Just makes things more chaotic.

That city was ridiculous. They shut down the fire department (then destroyed it later), so they constantly had these massive blazing fires coming out of pretty decent sized buildings all the time.

They also destroyed the only clinic in the city to make room for a stadium.

I also noticed that the ploppable buildings never seemed to catch fire, only the growables.
