Include NAM, RAM etc. in this decision. And don't say curvy roads.

(Ignore MODES like scenario, multiplayer etc.)

I have no idea why this topic is here, there's already a topic covering basically the same thing

SimCity is still being developed, just because something isn't in the game right now, doesn't mean it won't be in the final game.

LOL

So basically, "List everything that the new SimCity has that the old one didn't, but exclude all of the new things it has." xD

I have always fallen towards the disappointed/skeptical side as far as SC2013. But there are some things you have to think about before just writing it off.

3D graphics and curvy roads shouldn't be taken for granted. Also this whole world economy thing, and the new simulation engine with all of its fancy traffic, fire, water, and other systems, all look impressive.

You even have to look at the name of the game. As I've been advocating, they purposely didn't call it SimCity 5. It's just SimCity--it's a reboot. The kind of stuff we're hoping for might not show up until an expansion pack or SimCity 2. Don't ask me why they decided to start from scratch, but they aren't lying about it.

As long as they eventually come out with modding, who knows what the game can turn into?

How can you include plugins, which may not even be in SC13, but not multiplayer and curvy roads, the features that basically make the difference between this and SC4?

SC13 will have regions from the outset, and modding has been promised for some time post-release.

A way more realistic simulation engine, and that will probably be the reason EA get some of my money. Unless i get into the beta and the game is crap.

It has a 5 instead of an 4.lol. But seriously, I don't think this will be my type of game, too cartoony, and unrealistic. I think it will flop like SimCity Societies and Spore

The hardcore community (us) wants to see realism. Cartoony I have a feeling will drive a lot of us away. Well, atleast keep us in 4. Only thing I see that I like personally is the way the transportation system works with people finding alternate routes around clogged arteries and curvy roads. That really about it to be perfectly honest.

Well whos to judge until you play? When SC4 came out back in 2003 almost every CJ looked the same, but look at the modeling and ST exchange that has built since. Now SC4 rules at realism because of mods that have been developed over time. It may take a while to get used to but in time it will develop its own charm...

It's more a question of ' What does SC4 have what SC2013 doesn't?'.

SC4 has terraforming - SC2013 doesn't.

SC4 has local saves and you can go back to a previous save - SC2013 doesn't and you can't.

SC4 is off-line - SC2013 is on-line only.

SC4 has large city tiles - as far as we know SC2013 doesn't.

In Sc4 your cities don't get affected by other players - in SC2013 their do.

Sc4 doesn't have empty spaces between cities - in SC2013 you do.

In SC4 you don't need other players to build an int.airport or other great works - in SC2013 you do.

The only things I like about SC2013 is the 3D graphics, dare I say it ... curvy roads and the fact that all Sims have a destination.

Unfortunately, in my eyes the bad outweigh the good, so I won't be buying it until drastic changes are made.

Let's answer the actual question, folks =P The question isn't "will simcity 2013 be better than the modded SimCity 4?"

Now. To answer the question:

- Curvy Roads (because it's a valid answer.)

- Modular service-building upgrades.

- Agent tracking and much better route management (along with time-based commutes).

- Resource management. (Which I think is really being under-mentioned. This is a really big change. Whether you like it or not, it's going to add a HUGE element.)

- Non-radial service building zones. (IE, based more on access, less on arbitrary coverage radius.)

- Multiplayer and global market. (Like it or not, it's there, and is going to matter.)

- More pre-defined maps available. (Not a comment on terraforming. Sc2013 lacks that. But it's not irrelevant that the game will probably offer people who like to just hop into city building more pre-packaged terrain options to choose from.

- Immediate neighbor connections, (IE, the slightly more realistic practice of a city developing along a highway than springing out of nowhere before connecting to neighboring isolated cities.)

- Light Rail, ish. (this is in NAM, though the default inclusion is nice for meshing everything together. Elevated rail available in SC4 could debatably count.)

- MUCH larger international airports with more realistic scaling.

- Collaborative projects. (Like them or not.)

- 3D graphical interface that allows viewing of neighboring cities and (presumably) a more flexible camera.

Now, as the above post mentions, this doesn't mean that SC2013 probably won't LACK a lot of what SC4 had, such as larger tile sizes, easier modding (presumably), terraforming, grid-based regional play, etc. But the new title does innovate. It's just just a reduced shell of SC4. Now, I certainly won't argue that the SC4 fanbase as a whole will enjoy the new title, but for at least a handful of people the new style may be appreciated. I'm saving my value judgement until I try it, as I'm not sure what my opinion of it will be. Most of my critiques regard the maps - smaller tiles, no terraforming, etc - and that may or may not be a deal breaker to me. But there are certainly some new toys I'm looking forward to playing with.

No, the game is called Simcity. It doesn't have a number.

It's supposed to be base game, not some sort of SC4 expansion.

SC4 vanilla was released without any mods.

Unless you are happy with SC4's crappy (even when taking into account Z's great work on the simulator) excuse for traffic simulation, and ridiculous problems like eternal commutes, residents choosing to commute to non-existent cities because they are closer than actual, existant, jobs, and the numerous other bugs/issues with the game, I would say SimCity 2013's simulator, and the glassbox generally, is the biggest 'what SC5 has that SC4 doesn't.

Everything not in SC2013 is forgiveable as long as it can be modded in. Starting with region size, region gaps, and building gaps. And if not, then someone must crack the code like SC4 was

certainly not enough to make up for all the drawbacks.
