SimCity 2013 now $49.99 BestBuy
~Dee~ replied to simmarine's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Still too much money for a broken game. -
I remember Anno 2070, couldn't get on the server for 7 days. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more server based games after that fiasco and I won't.
-
No glitches? You haven't been to the Sim City Forum where some people ignored the NDA and gave their opinion about the beta and it wasn't favorable. Now some people can't even play the beta because the server is down, hate to see what happens when millions of people want to connect to the server all on the same day on release.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
~Dee~ replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
A lot of people posted saying they don't mind the always online because they have internet 24/7, but that isn't the problem. You are dependent on a server and all servers go down more often than people like to admit. So it doesn't matter that you are always connected to the internet, if there is a message " Server unavailable" you can't play and I don't see why I should pay $90 for a game what is utterly dependent on a server. What can't be played any other way. When I bought Anno 2070 I didn't know that game needed a constant internet connection, I installed it and guess what... when I wanted to play it, the server was down. Couldn't play for 7 days, on their forums people were in an uproar. No thanks I stick to games what give you an option for offline as well as online gaming. -

You can't play this game off-line, if you play a region all by yourself you still need to be connected to the server, that's why this game is called an always on-line game. -
That is very promising and have you seen the size of the regions? They are absolutely huge, looking forward to this.

I wish I had 50GB, I get 12GB per month. As you can imagine I can't do much with that, view a few videos, check out some forums and email and it's gone. I certainly don't have enough bandwidth to play a online only game every day. I prefer disks too. -
shows the same portion from a different angle. Correct and I don't see any dirt roads at all.

I won't believe it until a maxis dev confirms this. -

No that's not correct, you need to be always online to play the game. They say if your internet cuts out for a very short time you still can play, but only for a short time, you'll need to re-connect. This is a server based only game, you have to save your city on EA's server as well. -
Are you being serious? Of course I'm online, that isn't the point, the point is that I have no choice in the matter, I'm forced to play it the way EA/Maxis want's me to. I like options, if I want to play off line I like to have that option. Server based only games are just to restrictive, you can't even save your game on your PC. I'm not buying a game what will cost me $90 just so I can play it on EA servers and no other way. Besides, my internet is slow, capped and very expansive and I can't afford to waste my allotet amount on a game. I'm not 'scared' being online, I just object being forced on to it. That's the difference.

To all of the people complaining about the changes
~Dee~ replied to WarhawkJAH's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Furthermore, Maxis announced that this SimCity was going to be a reboot way back when they first showed gameplay back in E3 2012. I know it's not Sim City 5 and I know it's a reboot and a different game. I just think that the name is misleading, anyone who played past Sim City titles will expect something similar. Since that is not the case Maxis should have called this game Sim City Online, everyone then would have known what to expect. -
I'm not buying it until they remove the online only requirement.

That was my fear too so I asked at Paradox forum and was told by a dev that it will be off-line with a multiplayer option, based on that info I'm buying this game.
