I thought Societies was terrible, but it was made by a completely different developer with a completely different goal.

I also love how much hate EA is getting. I don't see many people on this website complaining about how EA ruined SimCity when they put out SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4.

Because they didn't ruin it

Simcity Societies had the same goal of making the game simpler and reach a greater audience, nothing different what is seen today!

Who determined its development by Tilted Mill was EA therefore followed the same business project implemented by it... link - SimCity Societies - Tilted Mill

Just for information, because it should be common knowledge, this resentment by the distributor not started here, just visit this link.- EA Is Your Worst Company In America For 2012

The release of SC3000 and SC4 were exactly what the fans today discontents wanted, a sequence of the game that already knowed with several improvements , so I do not see why they would complain.

Basically think anyone here is against the release of a new game with realistic simulation and has IMMOs objective, the problem is wanting to have as consumers the fan base who expected something else and try to convince them that this is an improvement.

Technically speaking it would be impractical to develop a Simcity 5 as an upgrade from earlier about the GlassBox by the way the project the new game was implemented.

Even today the hardware to support it would not be within reach of most the players, leading the option to prioritize the realism of the simulation and gameplay in exchange for the missing features already exhaustively discussed.

Conclusion: one can not condemn the lack of excitement and lots of criticism from fans just like can not criticize the distributor attempts to make what is best for theirs interests.

Who does not agree simply to use the best method of expressing their discontent. Not buy

I am pretty disappointed with this SimCity, after seeing Maxis strip features out of the game that we all know and love. Then force features down our throats that we don't want. Really all I was hoping for was an updated SimCity 4 (fixed bugs, 3D graphics, maybe better economics) and that would be it. SimCity starting from scratch is a very bad idea for its fans, but it will probably give EA more money.

I would gladly pay 99 aud for simcity 4 with full 3d, glassbox simulation and curvy roads- with moddability a must. I have cancelled my preorder and that 99 dollars will be set aside for whatever independent project looks hopeful.

My disappointment comes from hoping for the ultimate SimCity 4. One that didn't CTD when you scrolled too fast, one that had everything the NAM team has given us and everything they want to create, as part of the game. One that would let Mayors recreate Paris, Los Angeles, Tofino, or build a new city on Mars. One that would give us creeks and rivers that trickle from the mountains to the sea...Seasons... and all the things seasons make us think of... green buds, flowers, fall colours, snow covered roads. Not only control over densities, but control over multi-use zoning.... Not having to scroll through endless MMP, Park and NAM menus... that is what I was hoping for..

I wasn't looking for a 'new' simulation game. In my mind playing SimCity 2013 will be along the same lines as the first time I played Tiger Woods golf on the wii. Something new.

I too have successfully cancelled my pre-order. I'll wait 'til the game hits the shelves.

SimCity was meant to be a simulation game. It wasn't about creating realistic recreations and graphically amazing cities. If you would like to recreate Paris, Los Angeles, Tofino, then play Cities XL. The biggest difference in the two games is that Cities XL wants to create amazing recreations of cities, or your own- but can be boring as hell. SimCity isn't about recreating cities, or making extremely realistic ones, but about making your own city and having fun, and a challenge while doing so.

SimCity is realistic in the gameplay of cities, and how they behave. Cities XL is realistic in the look and design of cities. I wish we could get both in one game, but it still hasn't happened.

All opinions are welcome of course... but I do not think that I am alone in thinking the community has taken SC4 way beyond what it was meant to be. (Which might explain the disappointment / hesitation that some are voicing.)

I have to agree, combining Cities XL with it's large maps and beautiful graphics and Sim City with it's great game play would make an awesome game.

But like you said it most likely will never happen, I would buy a game like that for sure.

Yes, I agree. The community has taken the game far beyond what it was meant to be, but that doesn't mean maxis will start at the level we left SimCity off. And yes, that's probably where much of the disappointment is coming from. We've become so accustomed to these things, that its hard to change, which is also why its hard for people to change to CXL, and the same goes for the upcoming SC.

    100% disappointed.

I was actually going to buy the parts to build my first desktop computer in order to run this game, since I'm not usually a gamer and all I currently have is a netbook.

But since the latest news, the game is NOWHERE near worth it to spend the 1k to do that. All this game sounds like is some 'meh' game that you play for a couple weeks, get some lukewarm enjoyment out of and then stash away in your closet, never to play or think about again. To me, that's not really even worth the $60 to buy the game itself.

So I guess my plan is out the window... shame, really, because it's really fun and interesting learning how to build your own computer.

I was going to do the exact same thing except I had a larger budget. I was holding out hope that they would let you pick you city size, so I was planning on getting 64GB of Ram!!!!!!

Man that would have been sweet. I may still do it so I can run some real games on that beast like Mech-Warrior online. But alas, I WILL NOT BE BUYING THIS GAME. It is a complete flaming turd with sprinkles and nuts for good measure-pre-digested.

From the feedback I have read about the new game, plus EA is now just another big fat corporation whose only interest is in its bottom line in the short term, I will not be buying the new SimCity, at least until after it has been out long enough for gamers and reviewers to judge it.

Based on what I have learned so far, I am highly disappointed with SC 2013. It sounds like my favourite game has been stripped bare, dumbed down and turned into a circus for 12 year old Facebook addicts.

Sure there are drawbacks [Terraforming+Regions], but there is still plenty to be grateful for [Glassbox, A New Game in 10 years]

As for changes I've not read any posts that were opposed to changes, in fact I think all of us agree that changes are needful in the game of SC4. According to what has come out to date about the upcoming release there is little resemblance to the original game or game play other than a name.

So far, I've been very disappointed at what I've seen. I can live without terraforming and the requirement to be connected online but I will not shell out $60 of my hard earned money just to play an updated version of Sim City Societies (with a bit of Sim City Social thrown in) nor will I be scammed into buying DLCs just so EA can make a quick buck.

I sincerely hope that EA/Maxis are playing some kind of sick & twisted joke on us because if they are, it's absolutely hilarious. That being said, they have 6 months left to regain my attention and money.

Most of the community has been complaining that the game isn't a sequel to SimCity 4. They're disappointed that the series is being rebooted and that they're going back to the drawing board.

Well, that's what this topic is about; are you excited / disappointed. Being that THIS particular community has quite a few SC4 players I would expect that to be reflected the way it is in the poll above. This same poll on EA/Origin/Facebook would most likely have different outcome.

Could we please stick to issues and not knocking the community or it's members' that have chosen to share their voice.

    Thanks! :thumb:

I can't speak for anyone but myself. Yes, I would prefer an updated SimCity 4 over what is being presented now. However, if this new online-only SimCity, well, weren't online-only, then terraforming and adjacent city tiles would have been included. I would have pre-ordered the limited edition. Now I'm not even going to buy the game at a discounted price.

speaking of circuses....notice in the new trailers they had like 200(think new york city downtown) sims walking around an un-dense residential area? Thats just unrealistic and a complete circus cluster crap.

And right, because in other city sim we have everything so realistic. People love SC4 so much and yet its so unrealistic in many ways and noone ever mention that. People are just looking for a reasons to hate new SC.

When it's about new games, I always have them a look at an internet cafe. If the game is cool, I'll gather some money to buy it. If not, next! This trick protect me from buying bad games like Empire Earth 3, as well as encourage me to buy better games like Spore. I'll do the same with the new Simcity. If I still like the result, I'll buy it. If not, I'll wait for a new patch, expansion or mod. If still nothing, sorry Maxis and E.A. but no money from me. Until then, I'll sit here and wait.

Have in mind that the players can force the game companies. Remember Red Alert 3? The original design of the Apocalypse Tank was so bad, that the community rose up against E.A. in the official forums. The result was a better design of the tank. Gamers are the truly blood of the game companies, not the money they have. Without us, they'll be dead. Think about it.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

I'm pretty excited. The Glassbox engine looks remarkable. More so that you will be able to see actual traffic (I do wish parking played more of a role since that is a huge issue, especially for special events and Universities. The 3D graphics and tilt-shift look good so far. I would like to see more realism in the finishes, but it looks to be progressing nicely.

Curved roads and how buildings attach to them look great. I hope the odd spaces this creates will be handled appropriately.

I, like most everyone, am not happy with the forced on-line issue, and what looks like the inability to make a true city with regions that butt up to one another.

From my understanding is that the city sizes are comparable to SC4's medium tiles because the Glassbox engine can only keep track of 200,000ish sims. (correct me if I'm mistaken). If that's the case I have no qualm with the size of city tiles. However that's where adjacent regions could combat that negativity, but it seems that is not the case.

A little concerned about the zoning. I like the idea, but wonder how it's going to work. here in real world we have 7 lane avenues going through low density commercial because of the heavy traffic.....I can just imagine this creating skyscrapers in the game that aren't wanted.

Haven't heard anything about ordinances.....would love to have those back.

I don't mind that terraforming is out, as long as you can still manipulate land during the game, of course it will cost money, but that's part of a city.

I feel the gameplay will outweigh all that is missing. Can't wait for release.
