Hmmm does Somy's industrail set grow or is it in some landmark menu?

I looked in most of menus but can't find anything....

Thats a shame, I would have liked them to be growable. Still amazing buildings though.

Modified Hakkodamaru Rail Station and Seikan Ferry Terminal.

I decided to significantly modify the original lot file and intend to upload the revised version to the STEX for all to enjoy. It functions as a rail station only and is transit enabled for both rails and the street. The tracks now run along side the ferry as opposed to the terminus for ferry loading that occured with the original lot. I felt the the terminus prop and configuration was quite unrealistic in appearance and the current ship was incapable of holding trains by real world standards.

***I would like to get the original creators name so I can give credit before uploading. If anyone knows the name of the original creator please respond.

I see nothing ethically wrong with this as my modifications are substantial enough to rule out direct plagerism. From my understanding with communications from several Japanese BAT'ers Japanese community SC4 policies are such that files were meant to be shared with other gamers and the original lot for distribution had no restrictions/disclaimers regarding its use and distribution/sharing by others.

Below are a couple of pics of the revised lot.

Please comment on my decision to modify and make this fine work available to others. There are several popular STEX dependencies which will be linked to in the STEX description page and included read me.

I also intend to modify and upload the Sim Gyon Bon Ferry Port as well.

I would also like to thank the kind ST member who took the time to e-mail me the original files!!! (I don't want to disclose his name as he may not want the added exposure)

Cheers,
~MPM

That's exactly what it is - a Japanese version of GLR.

Meanwhile, NOB continues to expand his set for converting conventional rail to a streetcar network.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Rail_Set_Ver2.jpg align=baseline>

Set contains three ploppable pieces for creating 4-way and T intersections, as well as 90 degree turns, which aren't possible for the in-game rail. Apparently transit-enabled but haven't tested them myself.

Intended for use with NOB's stone texture under rail mod.

Sorry, but these are eye-candy. The 2 stations do work when connected to network. NOB's set is Transit Enabled.

The only problem that I see with it: You can only have trains with engine and no cars. But yes I like it to. I hope someone will do a mod of it for GLR.

I like it too and have also been thinking of abandoning the GLR and switching over to NOB's mod lately. As I posted previously, I actually tried to build a tram network using conventional rail like this before but it never looked quite right. Now, NOB's mods have taken care of pretty much all the problems - cement texture under the rail, ploppable, transit-enabled joints for the intersections that aren't possible with conventional rail and a good selection of one-car trams (would be nice to have two-car but one will do). Also, because it's built in to the game, the conventional rail is SOOOO much easier to lay and so much more flexible than the GLR puzzle pieces could ever be.

There are a few things keeping me from switching over, however:

- no inter-city passenger rail - If you use the conventional rail for trams, obviously you lose it for regular passenger service. This is not a really big deal, though - can substitute el rail or monorail.

- freight rail - you have to build separate freight rail lines that don't intersect the tram lines or you'll get freight trains running on your tram lines and vice versa.

- file switching - NOB's set works and looks best with his cement under rail mod, which only looks good in downtown, urban areas. If you want freight rail serving smaller farming communities, you have to take the mod out when you play those cities.

Indeed, if the set could be modded for GLR it would offer the best of both worlds. The stations aren't much problem. It's the trams, particularly the dat files with multiple trams included, that are more difficult (too difficult for me, anyway).

NOB is not interested on doing any NAM-related work but he allowed to convert his stuff for GLR use, but except the wooden platform (converted by Swamper77), nothing has been done. Since we link one-car trams to new GLR stuff, converted stations may be linked to one of his trams.

If somebody wants to convert anything... I have no time in the next weeks.

In the picture you posted...

To the left of the Mitsubishi motors show room there appears to be a prop mod to replace maxis cars (very similar to the european car replacement mod by mikeseith) it looks different to anything that already exists. Any ideas where this may potentially be located? Or am i barking up an invisible tree?

Regards

LE Harve,
Those are props from the european car replacement mod. I am working on a mod to replace cars with Japanese market cars. I was hoping to release it this month but hurricaine wilma has come along and rearanged my neighborhood and ripped off all the shingles on my house. Just got electric back yesterday and phone/internet today. In December it should be ready (I hope).

So as I was saying, that is just from the euro mod.
Mike

Mike, I'm very glad to hear that you're OK (minus the wind damage), but I find it really funny that the very day you get your internet back you're posting on Simtropolis!
