This game should have just been called SimsVille. It would work perfectly under that name considering the small map sizes, and the fact that the original SimsVille was cancelled in 2001.

I agree completely. I would have paid no attention to it whatsoever.

Completely agreed, that way not another great franchise would've been destroyed.

Destroying? Did you read the reviews? All of them says that the gameplay is great, just the maps are too small. But that can be fixed sooner or later...

They are not going to fix the maps. Get that out of your head right now. Small maps are what you will be playing with.

You say it with so much certainty, how do you know for sure? I would agree that it's very unlikely that we will get bigger maps at release, but we don't know that for sure. And we have no way of knowing that they won't add bigger maps in the future after release.

This was the lesson learned, or should have been, with Simcity Societies. If they would have named it The Sim's City instead and sold it to the The Sims crowd, it would have been successful. But they insisted on selling a game that really has nothing to do with the Simcity 4 to a Simcity 4 heavy community like they're the focus.

And here we have Simcity2013, again, not a Simcity 4 like game, being pushed in a Simcity 4 heavy community like it's the next great thing but to who, the Simcity 4 crowd that's waiting for Simcity 5? Or maybe that group of people is the wrong group to sell to when your saying we know you want that but you're getting this instead.

EA is having problems understanding their markets and who their customers are for what product.

I know because I understand that all the detail of the simulation requires a-lot of computing power, and smaller maps will allow for simulating a city. The larger the size of the map, the more you will have to simulate. Its a simple exponential growth problem.

I must agree. Shrinking the map size and making half of the region unplayable would lead to the demise of a great franchise.

As I read through all these posts something occured to me that I had not considered. do you (anyone) think EA may be intending to SELL larger map option and terraforming? Pay a fee and get the unlock key... ?

That is what will probably happen.

I imagine they would probably release expansions down the line as popularity died down to spur the community. Within these expansions I can see them including larger city tiles.

Think like: SimCity: Downtown. "Expand your borders with this new expansion and give your city the much needed downtown to let your Sims relax and enjoy city life!"

Just like what has been happening with The sims... Selling the core, as 'the base game", adding as less as possible in each new expansion pack, and selling everything else as "Store" content. It seems to me that they are building a 'sim'city for citiville's fans, rather than anything else...

SC5 should be renamed SimCityVille. That is a much more accurate name, especially with all the social features in it and the lack of a 100% offline single player mode with hard drive saves, as well as empty spaces between cities and the lack of "complexity" such as large-scale terraforming, highways in the middle of a city, and others.

When will a true SC5 come out for SC4 fans?

I know the game won't be getting larger maps. Why? Maxis confirmed it. TWICE.

The map size in the demo (4 sq. km) is what players will be working with, unfortunately.

Where'd they confirm it?

SimCity is still being developed, just because something isn't in the game right now, doesn't mean it won't be in the final game.

Never. We're no longer a large enough customer base to contain their greed. It's all about going after the LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) these days. We're not allowed to have nice things anymore...

@Jon889 That's our standard map size (2k square, the same as an SC4 medium city). Rendering everything in 3d, we're performance constrained.

@Jon889 Sorry for the confusion - yes, only one size, 2k square.

After release of the game, yes, but later on there will be an expansion pack for sure, and then they may add bigger maps.

Key phrase in that tweet is "performance constrained". In 2 years time, that might not be the case, and larger maps might be a possibility. We shouldn't jump to conclusions.

If that's the case I'll wait until the larger maps or released to buy the game, not before.

With 6 months of weak sales EA will probably cancel the development of anything related to the game. I'm pretty sure!

People who had any hope are giving up .. and I think they there at EA / Maxis should rethink some things, and show that they are concerned about our opinion, RIGHT NOW!

We can define the success or failure of the game, either by buying at launch, or getting the first months complaining everywhere influencing others not to buy too.

The reason that seems like a weak excuse to me is: Their min specs are listed as a PC from 2005, essentially. And since they are restricting us to one map size, this means they know the game will run adequately on the size given on that system. AKA -- the performance constraints seem to only exist because they want one map size, and don't want to make the game unplayable for older systems. Current gen smartphones have more computing power than the min specs...

tl;dr: Larger maps are a possibility right now if they gave us a choice, but they probably want their ridiculously low min specs to be able to do "everything" rather than allow those on better systems to only be able to handle the larger map sizes.

I'm decidedly negative about the game right now, but even I'm not willing to go that far Essex. You are talking about speculation way too much as if it were fact. This will not be SC5 -- hence I think why they made the deliberate choice of naming it Simcity NOT Sim City 5. I can still see how this game may be fun to play for the economic aspects, but the lack of player freedom WILL probably have a negative long-term impact on the chances of people still looking to play the game years down the road.

I just wonder what the long-term affects will be on the commodities market in the game if player numbers dwindle? Do you actively have to be putting stuff up on the market, or can that be automated? In which case we might have millions of "zombie cities" churning resources into the market, essentially making the value of everything worthless.

does anyone know if i can import sc4 to this new game

I would like to import a lot of SC4 into SimCity Reboot. Like proper singleplayer with no multiplayer limitations.

I wouldn't mind importing SC4 into some dream where " we would have 3D regions 10 times the size of the standard SC4's size, having zones being sub divided into even more selectives like "shopping area", "china town", "cultural centre", "regional reserve", "city reserve", to preserve natural areas vital to species etc.... some things I really missed in SC4, I always named areas I hadn't cleared as "reserves" or "parks" and named certain areas close to my heart with some real thought... who wouldn' love to have that option?

We have become a niche... apperantly.
