Sound effects are gone, everything else is fine

Hello everyone!

I've been playing SimCity4 on Steam for a couple of months now and all of the sudden, the sound is gone. I've troubleshot the issue using the on game controls and I can get the Background Music (BGM) to play without an issue, and control it using the volume up and down. I've tried doing the same with Audio and nothing, zero. Has anyone had this happened?

I don't think your audio driver has an issue since you can play the BGM. I think the problem comes from the corrupted Sound.dat SFX bank, which is completely separate from the BGM which are MP3s on Radio\(Mayor/Region). You have to reinstall SimCity 4 from Steam to fix that issue. Don't forget to back the game's Plugins folder up since that'd be deleted too (Documents' Plugins won't be affected tho).

Another issue may come from a mod that overrides every sound effects in the game. A member requested a mod (anyone with the link?) to completely remove all SFX as a modding effort. If you accidentally installed that mod, remove it. If it still persists, try to use this method:
