Thanks everyone!  I'll keep on working on the glass and the lotting.  Maybe there will be another update today.

Andreas:  It is!  1.gif  I wanted a German or Swiss or Dutch name, and also maybe something that had to do with glass.  According to Wikipedia, Trier was an important glass making city during Roman times, and of course it is a German city.

In the meantime I'll be exporting/re-exporting some BATs.  Here is the J. W. Reid Building.  I've added a lot of details to the back since you've last seen it.

Those fire escapes are sexy. There is an ink blot test on the back wall though, mirrored abstract shapes are so fascinating to look at. LOL, anyway, looking really great. I was in Philadelphia the other day and all I did was ogle buildings like this, too bad they don't make them with class like this any more.

I appreciate that you look close enough at my BATs to notice something like that! I didn't think anyone would notice. I won't re-export it, but it will be our special secret, lol. Yeah, this building was actually inspired by buildings from Philadelphia.

    Thanks guys

Ohh the Reid Building is looking like a real beauty. I like the gentle facade lighting, even if you forgot to put in the fixtures that it's coming from again 4.gif The fire escape is a great touch.

What can I say? I'm a perfectionist, perhaps with a touch of OCD and a critical eye (two in fact). I don't think its worth fixing anyway, its a goofy little thing that would be more work than its worth. Plus its fun to look at, and analyze one's mental well being based on what you see...

Spa, I would like to assume that the fixtures are on another building, pointing across the street. That way you don't get those ominous shadows from the details on the facade, and see that awful light cone.

    Again, brilliant stuff,

    -Todd

I actually disagree a bit with the folks who suggest some improvements for your last building. In my opinion nightlighting is perfect and  the only thing you should look at is the teal part next to the roof, which can be de-saturated a bit.Keep on and upload it soon 2.gif

    Thanks for the comments guys!

Spa:  lol, I'll try to remember them for my next buildings.  I'll try to make sure to put them on the Penobscot Building.

Thanks guys! Also, I appreciate everyone who rated, who brought the STEX rating from an 85% to a 92%.

I've haven't worked on any of the BAT projects in this thread since last updating them. I'll probably start casually working on them after I get settled into the next school semester. However, me and nofunk have been working on a BSP BAT together, you can see progress for that in the BSP thread.

    Hello Jason

I just went on a download rampage and grabbed all of your 2008 offerings plus a few others.  I am back to say that you've done some very nice bats and you're doing a good job at the modding too. I  bumped a couple up to stage 9 (CAM). You're one of the bright spots at Simtrop and I wish you safe and healthy 2009.

    Cheers.

    Thanks guys!

jmyers2043:  I appreciate the kind words a lot, and I wish you a great 2009 as well.  Hopefully 2009 will be good to all of us.  1.gif

I threw together a facade, and have written a little tutorial about it.  It's not much of a tutorial, since it doesn't actually tell you how to do anything, but it demonstrates the concept.  A few more notes I didn't include in the .jpg:

    - This is intended for Gmax users to reduce the polgyon count of their buildings.  3ds Max users could use this as well if they wanted to, but polygons aren't as much of an issue, and there are more sophisticated ways of doing this in 3ds Max anyway.  Since this is intended for Gmax users, I did it in Gmax.

    - If you haven't gotten the point yet, the top two spandrels are modeled, while the bottom two spandrels are textured, and they look more or less the same.

    Happy New Years  39.gif

Hey that's cool and helpful. I'll have to give that a try.

When you say that highlights should be a little yellow and shadows a little blue I am not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the textures? How do you check for that or make such adjustments?

Yeah, for the texture. For the drop shadow and bevel and emboss in Photoshop, you can change the color or the shadows and highlights, or you can manually use the paint brush or any other tool you want to use to make it look how you think it should look. For checking it, you just have to look at it and make judgements.

I basically have a 4 day weekend (Fri-Mon) so last night and earlier this morning I started a new building.

    newsmallshops01ea5.jpg

I just have the back, the rest of the roof, and maybe a few signs for the front.  I reused some stuff from the last building I did like this.  This is a 2x2 CS$$.

I also did the nitelites for Trier Tower, but I don't have a screenshot to show.

I'd like to have this, Trier Tower, and Trier Station fully exported and ready for modding by the end of my weekend.

    the facade look great!

I think your windows (you use a texture, right? are great for these sort of buildings, or for any building, actually, that isn't one continuous glass curtain wall.

And the street level is a such a lovely color splash!
