Hey Jason. I really like this one (bet you're not surprised there though). I really like the street level. Not too much but enough to make it rich thanks to the windows, newspaper boxes, benches and varied entrances. The only thing that stands out to me is maybe there is a little too much contrast on the upper floor windows. I would brighten the darkest windows... but I think we often differ on the level of contrast to put in glass so maybe not 4.gif

    SimFox:  Thanks!

pingangster:  Thanks, Trier will hopefully be done relatively soon.

    ilikehotdogsalot:  21.gif

spa:  Yeah, that's just something we disagree on, lol.  But I did lower the contrast and make them a bit lighter, though hey're still probably darker and more contrasty than you'd prefer.

allez l'om:  I just realized the render below doesn't really show much about the building, but there's part of it!  lol

    Gn_leugim:  Thanks!

A fun render of the Oehler Building, which is what I've named it.  You can see even the signs I reused are from the camera store (that's where the newspaper machines and benches are from).

It's exporting right now.  I didn't get around to doing any BATing last weekend.  I'll get this one finished by the end of the weekend, but I don't think I'll finish anything else.

    Hey Jason, good work buddy,

One thing that i notice is that most people will model something, when they could really make it a texture, thanks for pointing that out, since many newbies to BAT dont realize that.

Hey Jason, good work there buddy,

I was thinking about this a long time ago, what you said about the textureing over modeling is good advice, i try to do that as much as possible, as it can dramatically lower the poly count in your model.

Hi everyone! Sorry about the lack of updates. I've actually been doing SC4 stuff, just none of it is new BATs.

I've uploaded Oehler Building. Happy The Afternoon of the Day Before Valentine's Day.

Most of my backlog of BATs are pretty much done and just need some final touches and then modding, so I may be releasing something every couple weeks or so for a few months.

The top one could be finished as a 2x2 tower.  The bottom one could be reworked into a wall to wall or something.

Here's a post I made back in June about that was about these.  quote>

I was looking through my folder where I keep all of my preview renders that I upload for here, and I ran across the image above.  It's about 1.5 years old and I remember that I did this before (rediscovering this building and reposting about it), so the quote is from a post I made in January of 2008.  I feel like it might be worthwhile to finish up when I'm done with my other projects.

So I don't have any real updates for this thread (it's hard to believe it's been a month since I've updated it!) since I've been working on BSP stuff instead.

Hey Jason, I hope to see you putting out some more great BATs soon. 9.gif I am also wondering, what are the Al Kaline awards? Put the two together and you get my fictitious industrial company Alkaline Inc.

Or, you could put the bottom one on the top one!

Jason, there's a building in Akron, OH that reminds me of the one you've made on top.

nihonkaranws:  I had to look up who Al Kaline was, but he was a famous baseball player for the Detroit Tiger.  The description at the Trixies page, and his wikipedia explains it more.  I appreciate anyone who was involved in giving it to me.  1.gif

nofunk:  err, I don't know about that, heheh

wolverine, Francis90b:  This one was more loosely inspired by 77 Monroe Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Mine is obviously a lot bigger, but will also be less gothic and probably won't have at all the same base.

When I originally modeled it, it was all polygon modeled from a single plane, and it was one object, so I went through and detached all of the windows and glass and applied materials.

So this isn't a SimCity project, this is what I'm working on in architecture school right now. I won't go into much detail, but I'll say that it's mixed income residential. I'm not sure if it's going to end up completely different or if it will stay about the same. If anyone has any questions I'll answer them.

I want to support what Andreas said, it would be very original model for the game.

    Thanks guys.

toxicpiano: This was actually partly inspired by that. It's supposed to have similar plantings on the balconies (right now there are small generic green boxes), except instead of concrete it will be white glazed terra cotta.

francis90b: The first few floors are retail, the last floor on that bar are community amenities like the gym. The roof of that bar, and also the parking garage behind it will have some kind of rooftop communal space. The rooftops of the towers will also have communal space.
