SimHoTToDDy: You are right about the darkness I have made the brick and the window frames a bit lighter now. Thanks.

PBGV103: I think the tiling was my bump map which was way too big and not aligned with the brick diffuse. Hope it is better now. Thank you.

Aaron Graham: Thanks. I made it lighter but not quite as light as you suggested, and I will add some tables and chairs and stuff to the roof patio and to the balconies. I will also add the Duane Reade on the ground floor.

Vlasky: Thanks, it is lighter now.

An interesting fact (or maybe not) I still haven't used any bitmaps for the materials on this one all maps are procedural.

It's a great model, but brick needs to be lighter still (quite a bit lighter and what also important less saturated. I would suggest to play with gamma in Photoshop It will do both in one go.

    Something along these lines:

    7a58c77ce5cc.jpg

here I've applied 1,43 gamma to the already rendered image

Thanks Simfox for that reply, I altered the gamma on the brick map a bit, not quite like your suggestion but I wanna keep a bit saturation to the color. :)

It feels that I coming close to be done with the day view so I can move on to the making of the night lights, but I don't know, what do you people think?

Are there anything I need to add or change to it? I'm thinking maybe add some stuff to that lowest roof.

    Yes, looks great..much better.

Think the blinds should maybe be a little brighter/whiter and the windows a glossier/more reflective..

But other than that I really really like this!

Looking spectacular! But, texture used for reversed "triangle" gives impression of washed concrete (read very grey) whereas real thing gives impression of aged concrete (read warm dirty eggshell). Now that I've said that, all of your grey textures (used for ornament lines on ground facade) need to be in that warmer tone. Also as gutterclub said, your blinds look greenish when they should be looking more whiteish-blueish. Some junk is present on the terrace of the base, which leads me to believe there must be some exit door there.

Oh and one more thing, as this needs to be w2w on both sides, what are the dimensions of the base? if it's not w2w I suggest batting the nearby buildings so you acheive w2w-ness and therefore capture the spirit of the building :)

All in all truly spectacular building, as I already told you, and it will be very unique in game (beware of we need more of these, please make more of these type of buildings requests - I'm the first in line to say that :D ) I'm also very glad to hear you wrapping it up :)

gutterclub: Thank you!. I lightened the blinds a bit. Both glossiness and reflection is at maximum on the glass, so I haven't adressed this yet, but I think I'll change the bump map to make it easier to notice reflections and maybe make some changes to BRDF.

Vlasky: Thanks. The concrete color is changed now, both it and the bricks need some dirt to them look real and that's what I reckon is the last thing to do for the day render to be done. The building will sit W2W on a 1x2 with ~3m sidewalks as it is now.

    DragonAnime: Thank you. :)

Aaron Graham:Thanks, but it's not quite perfect yet.:)

Here's where I'm at right now with the day render:

I also have begun with the night lights:

I agree - It looks amazing! I like that you even have the sign of the express shop lit up (and especially since it stands out - very realistic).

I like night lights, but it looks like the night maps are Stretched.

I would love to see you make more of these types of buildings, there's a lot of these types of building in the Big Apple.

This is an awsome building. Someone said that we need more of these residential towers for Sim New York and that's true. Wonderful work my friend. Keep it up :D

Looking around for this to be released on the stex :P

Hello Anotn, I know you've been busy as hell working on The Aurora, but I was just wondering if you have any news on how work is going on your Bed-Stuy brownstones I've seen on Devotion?

Alright, time to liven this thread up a bit. The great buildings released on the STEX recently got me inspired and in the mood for some batting, so I started a new project, 345 Seventh Avenue, a couple of days ago, and this is where I am today:

Mack The Finger, I'm working on those about as fast as I reply to your question. :P Hopefully I will finish up some older things and not let the work I have put down go to waste.

Looks great, i'm so glad to see an NYBT member on the job now, I hope it does not die. To me the lot size looks like a 2x2 because of the two small brownstone jobs on one side of the building and the other is like a 2x2. Two brownstone like buildings on the left make up a lot size of 1x2 plus you building you making in the center 2x2 and plus the other building on the right will make a 1x2 lot. All together it 4 sim city grid squares facing the Avenue. :D

anotn it is so great to see you BATing again! It's great to see some NYBT members have been coming back to BATing for NYBT. First Jumpthefence graced us back from the unknown, and I guess I'd count for one by starting on One Chase Manhattan Plaza, but I may try something smaller for the time being, and now you're back!

I still love the last buildings you released. The Aurora I think that's how its spelled, always great to see it grow in my urban residential areas. Then there was that corner building you made. Sorry that I don't have the names by heart, I have gigabytes worth of plugins so its tedious to keep track of them all. :P

This new project looks beyond promising. Very fantastic. I can't wait to see more. :)

Oh, wow! It's really good to see you back, and that new BAT is already looking great. Not one, but three water towers on top, an interesting roof construction, and all those setbacks really make it interesting. It's only a pity that the address is not 345 6th Ave. :P But seriously, I have just taken a look at the real thing from all sides (thanks for providing the link), and I must say that it looks interesting from whatever angle. Good choice!

Measuring on google earth the building is somewhere between 31 and 32 meters wide, so if you make it 32 it will fit perfectly on a 2 tile wide lot. :)

It's looking really good so far.

Is it an apartment building or an office building?

What else can I say except I'm very very glad to see you working again.

And your choices always cheer me up. This type of buildings, Tall w2ws with setbacks are exactly the kind of NYC buildings lacking in sc4. Great job on the model so far, and looking forward to seeing how you'll continue your work on it. :)

This map lists it as manifacturing.I guess thouse buildings were built for both office or manifacturing, and were converted as needed.

You might modd it as a CO$$ and IM building, the latter ploppable offcourse - having it as a ploppable IM would add some IM jobs to a dense commercial downtown - and IMs, well, you can't ever get enough of them in the middle of the game.

Oh well, as a building built in 1928-1929 in Garment district, and taking into account that it does have 3 freight elevators among others it must have served as manufacturing building as well as offices. However, nowadays, it is owned by a realty company that sublets it as commercial offices, which translates it into CO $$ for the game. All the information as well as one floorplan can be found on following sites:

Aaron Graham: Yes, this will sit on a 2x2 lot when done.

Sgt. Pepper: Thanks. :) Luckily we've had aaron keeping us alive when others been inactive.

T Wrecks: Hah, yeah would have been easier to remember the address. The three water towers was part of the my decision to model this building.

Zulu2065: Thanks, the plaza is on hold, but I intend to get back to it as well as all other buildings I've shown, the Plaza Hotel scene got very cluttered and hard to work with, so I've been tidying it up and organizing things to smoothen my work later on.

Jasoncw: Yep, I have treated the building as if it was 32m wide from the start. :) It's an office building, I plan it to be CO$$.

    Nofunk: Thank you. :)

Vlasky: Thanks, and thanks for that floor plan didn't have that before. And yes, buildings with setbacks like this is very useful when we try to get that NYC feel in our simcities, and there aren't too many of them around.

Francis90b: I'll make it a growable CO$$ and a ploppable IM would work quite well too I reckon, and stay true to the real thing (historically at least). :)

I've added some textures and made materials for this now and am done with tonights work and want to show my progress. Textures are not final and there are some parts still to model mostly on the back but also parts of the store front. I think it is a tad dark but I show you what I have anyways.

    z5s3_345_7th.jpg

I've used this building to learn how to use Unwrap UVW and I can spot some errors here and there (gaps and stretched bitmaps) but thats easy to fix. Another new tool (for me) I've used is a plugin for 3dsmax that creates dirtmaps, it's called RichDirt and can be found here. A trial version is available for free and is fully functional. Even though it puts watermarks on the maps when they get big it's still useful and it's very easy to use.

I agree with your statemement that you think it might be too dark, i'd warm it up a little if possible..also the concrete material (is it brick) for the facade is a little blury and could be sharpened up a little?

Other than that it's a beauty, the windows are looking good! Perfect even!
