From the perspective that you view buildings in Sim City, any vertical glass surface cannot reflect the sky. It would instead reflect the buildings around it. This is commonly done by making a ground plane which is textured with a picture looking down upon a city, but having that plane set as invisible to camera or such. You can see some demonstrations of this in other bat threads, such as Aaron Graham's New York bats.

Whoops - in that case maybe the image is too cloudy? :P But seriously, if everybody mistook it for clouds, then it looks like you'll have to tweak some settings (or your ground plane) after all...

Might be worth posting the image you are using as a ground pane and your mat settings so we can have a look, definately looks too hazy at the moment..might be a good idea to add blinds and a little transparency on the windows to bring it all to life..

That's the thing, you don't need to distort the image, a good bump map with noise will do that for you.

Ah, yes. I agree with gc. You see, the windows are supposed ro reflect that clutter of (mostly) straight lines and boxy shapes that are predominant in most city centres. Then these lines will be slightly distorted because they are reflected by window panes which are not perfectly flat. However, the result will (ideally) still be recognisable as a distortion of something city-like and not like a reflection of something wavy and distorted.

If you feel your ground plane image is too defined and/or unbalanced, you can always copy parts of the image and resize and/or rotate them before you copy them over the original image again, thus creating a lot of clutter and avoiding any clearly discernible reflections, but keeping the general edgy shapes.

    I love your BAT'n style.

I started playing Simcity in 1995. In 1999 I purchased Simcity 3000 Holiday Edition while working for a home builder in North Carolina. In two days 27, 000 sims in Pine Island, rewards and more simileons than I knew what to do with. When Simcity 4 came out in 2003 a close relative told me it wasn't worth it and to purchase Civilization instead, my brother also introduced me to Command and Conquer: Red Alert (he'd play online with his army buddies) so I danced around Simcity until the summer of 2010. I'm kickin' myself everyday.

Anyways, I'm new to BAT'n. I use the primitive Gmax, although I've registered with Autodesk, Gmax is good for beginners. I fell in love with Paengs landscaping, Pegasus's creativity and your BAT's. There are some good teams out there but I like what you do. Keep it up, Simcity 5 is right around the corner!

The best BATter is NOT frex_ceafus and DEFINITELY not me aswell, even though i have several houses and buildings and STEX.

You'll be stunned to discover much, much more intricate BATters that actually model their details. Another thing is, most of them have been inactive or exclusive to SC4D

I think the person himself may decide that ;)

I like your BAT's too. I hope that you will continue building soon

After you finish your current 3 projects, I have a request for you:

Golden Corral, its a Buffet Restaurant where you can find all types of food, from Pizza to Hot Dogs. Here is a Golden Corral you could try:

I would definitely love to see a Golden Corral on Sim City 4. No city should be complete without a Golden Corral on Sim City 4.

It would be nice to upload a version minus the golden corral sign, without it, it looks like some random suburban office or a generic steakhouse-type restaurant. It should be easy as well, since there aren't much in terms of detail.

Whether it has details or not I will model a building, so please quit bringing the "O, he doesn't model details, or, should be easy for him, since there aren't much details" stuff up please, for your information, I DO model my details, you just pay no attention to them.

Any way, I started back last night, and this is my progress so far in the modeling stage:

    Hi Frex,

I had a chance to look through most of this thread and you have created some amazing BATs for this game. I was curious about the Farmhouse you were working on back in May of 2011 (long time ago, i know). Did you ever have a chance to finish that? I think the most updated picture was looking great. I am creating some farm lots and I thought your farmhouse would fit in perfectly. Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Sadly that model was over written, but I do not see why I couldn't just model you another one. :D

That is sad, you had a good thing going! Please don't spend your precious time just on my account, but I would love to see a beautiful farmhouse from you (as long as it interests you).

These are some of the Farmhouse Lots that I am working on. I think there is a pretty good demand for rural type buildings - who doesn't like farms? :)

Yes, I pay attention to your details, and yes, your skills are actually on par with other BATters. What I mean by "a lot of detail" is high-poly HD BATters like Amthaak and bipin. Its just that... since the building itself is plain you should be able to do it.

Your BATting of fast food restaurants is awesome, reminds me of Kevdan25 and his fast food pack.

Ok bro I just misunderstood or something, just lets drop it and act like I never got upset over it, I don't want conflict or anything, thanks for the kind comments, and commenting in my thread.

I agree to everything and still leave a suggestion ...

It would be nice to see also some pictures of the development in 3DS to accompany the your art of modeling and maybe absorb some techniques ...

I for one would be interested to see how was the development of thesebillboards

I like the last developements here.

You should really release your works in SD - if not for you, just for the people who are going to use them - for one thing. (*)

Models in HD are heavier, and not just in your plugins folder...they're also heavier in game, and this isn't a good thing if your models appear a lot of times.

AFAIK each time your BAT appears on a city tile the game has to load it...for each time it appears.

So, if "BAT x", having a model size of "n", appears 4 times in your city, it means that it's load on the game is of 4n.

If the said BAT is HD, so 3-4 times as big as it would be if it was SD (therefore, 3-4 times n), it's load in the same situation (i.e. 4 instances of it appearing in your city) would be of (3-4n)x4, therefore 12-16 n.

    (*)

I gathered this from a chat long ago, and honestly i don't remember much of it.I can't even say if this all is correct, or if i'm just dumb and misunderstood what that guy said to me.Now, please check the fact yourself, and anyone else, please tell me if what i said it's true or not, please correct or expand it.)
