I honestly don't care about any Mario game not on a NES or SNES. Anything newer just isn't classic in the same way. And Super Mario 64 is the most overrated game of the 90's.

Back in 1996 if your jaw didn't drop after Super Mario 64's graphics, then did? That was friggen awesome and never before seen.

After 64, I didn't play another Super Mario game till Galaxy. (Unless you count the Paper Mario series)

I enjoyed SimTower/Yoot Tower and OpenTower/Highrise Developer and they are 2D kinda side-scrolling (you have to scroll through the scene to see your tower) and I enjoyed IsoTower, which is obviously Isometric psuedo 3D. I no longer play much of them anymore. I prefer Minecraft, SimCity 4: Deluxe with a ton of mods (I cannot play it without mods), or Cities XL. I am afraid to use up another activation of Anno 2070 though I can install Deep Ocean on my recently gifted second computer once I upgrade it.

I wish I could play Anno 2070, but I don't think the family desktop can handle it, and my laptop definitely can't. I hope this computer can handle the new SimCity.

But see, that's just it. Mario is not Mario without tingy music and pixelly graphics. It's also not Mario with 3D gameplay, where you punch things instead of jumping on them, where you have a power meter instead of growing and shrinking, where you don't have the concept of "Worlds", where you don't have Luigi as player 2, etc.

Super Mario 64 is meh. It's too different from the games that came before it to qualify as a classic Mario game, and it's just not that fun to play.

Part of the problem, I think, is that it's tough to make a good action game where you can't shoot stuff. The 2D Mario games pulled it off but 3D Mario does not.

I really enjoyed Super Mario 64. That and San Francisco Rush. Rush 2 with the stunt track gave my friends and I hours of entertainment.

Ah, the original Mario Kart!

Y'know, it's interesting. Most people seem to consider Mario Kart 64 to be more of a classic than Super Mario Kart. I suppose it was more popular on account of being "proper" 3D. Still, what they pulled off on the SNES with that game using just sprites and mode 7 was impressive!

(but not as impressive as the original Star Fox)

lol, I was listening to the Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 soundtracks yesterday. So much fun... So much replay value.

I Consider Mario Kart 64 to be the best in the series, and my favorite 'party game' ever. Just wished the frame rate kept up with all the mayhem of 4-player split-screen carnage.

As classic as Mario Kart 64 is, I still think Crash Team Racing for the PS1 is a better game. It has a lot more depth (unlockable characters, story mode, other bonuses), the battle mode is far superior to Mario Kart's, and I find the play control to be better, too.

I never really understood why they've made so many handheld Mario Kart games... Got the one for the GBA, but playing with friends is what it's about for me.

I have every console Mario Kart with the exception of Double Dash (never owned a Gamecube). The one for the Wii is good, but will never live up to the SNES or N64 titles.

Never played Mario Kart 64, and I've only played the SNES version a little on my DS, but I love Mario Kart Wii. My friend and I used to play it all the time together. He doesn't seem to care for it that much now, though. I got pretty good at it, but the disk reader for the Wii broke, and I had to get a new one. After losing all my progress, I lost interest in the game. Every once in awhile I play it again.

This is a large part of why I dislike the current idea of save game data going on a console hard drive itself. If the console gets fried, all your save game data is gone and there is no way to retrieve it, or to back it up in case of such occurrence. It also lacks portability that way. Memory cards were a superior format. What's worse, the Wii has an SD card slot, but it obnoxiously won't let you copy save game data to it for most games. And for some of the ones where it does let you it will only let you access the data from the specific console on which you put it there (which entirely defeats the purpose).

Of course, I suppose it's still better than the method of cartridge battery backup, where it's always a ticking timebomb. Once that battery dies, poof! No more saved game and no more ability to create a new one.

A friend of mine had a SNES and we would occasionally play Mario Kart but once the N64 came out I stuck with Mario Kart 64. The other comparable I can recall was Twisted Metal 2 for PS1.

As far as PC games went, I played a lot of Quake 2 and 3, Unreal Tournament 2, Test Drive 5, and some others. Earlier games for PC were Heroes of Might and Magic 2, SimCity of course, and that's really all I remember. My sister and I played Wacky Jacks a lot when we had a Mac. That game was fun.

PC to me has always been reserved for the RTS genres. Played a lot of the Command&Conquer and Red Alert series since the DOS days (Windows 3.1), still continue the trend with Starcraft II today.

Consoles to me are good for quests and party games.

Don't forget your number. I wonder if I am allowed to divulge secrets about SimCity 2013 here. I acquired the info from other players since I never played the Beta, I am not obligated to follow the NDA.

Also, I have a serious gaming addiction as well as information overload addiction. It is like an itch I cannot scratch. I am typing at 11pm from my phone, in bed trying to sleep.

I miss the old days of gaming. Get off my lawn.

EDIT: I really rather like GT5 so far as racing games go, but Super MarioKart has that special something, colored in an even more wonderfully vibrant color thanks to nostalgia. I'm an old softie. Still, get off my lawn.

I played Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2, but none of the ones since then. The original is decent. The second one introduced an annoying pressure sensitivity into the controls which, I found, made the cars impossible to steer properly. It is very difficult for me to be gentile with the controller in the middle of an action sequence. So I always ended up wildly swerving and spinning out from pushing the buttons too hard.

I can't believe I found someone else who likes Heroes of Might and Magic. I've only really played the third one, but it's one of my favorite games.

I wish I could find my Sims 1 disc, I haven't played the original in so long, probably 2004 when Sims 2 came out, maybe 2005. Sadly I've only found all of the EPs... oh well. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and buy it off ebay if I can find it.
