As a Vikings fan, I'm so glad the 49ers beat the crap outta the Packers. As a human being, I realize football is not that important and I don't waste any time really hating the Packers that much (I actually like Aaron Rodgers). The Penn State scandal taught me many things about how overly important people think sports are.

It's just saying "Posted Image" for me, so no. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

My early rising this weekend is self-imposed. A friend and I are going to the Philly area for the day for some railfanning and roadgeeking, and we want to have as much of that as possible take place during daylight (for optimal photography), so we're leaving before dawn.

@ Muck, what do you think of McCutchen winning the contest to be on the cover of MLB 13 the show?

First Pirate to ever be on a video game cover.

Lol. Ok maybe not the first pirate ever.

I'm pleased with it. It's more a matter of recognition for him as a player than it is anything else. But any excuse to shout out "We still have a team!" works for me. It's hard being a Bucco fan. What is it, ~70 days or so until first pitch? I am eagerly awaiting that hurl.

Forgot about that one. I just typed "pirate on cover of video game" into Google and grabbed the first image that came up.

Huh? Surely you are mistaken. The "We are Fam-a-lee" days were before my time. Around the end of the 70's. How far it went into the 80's I can't say I know. But if I had to guess, the last time the Pirates finished over .500 was probably 1992. When I found myself old enough to really know the sport and what happened with it, I was about 10. That was the 1990 season. Again, if I recall correctly, that year Atlanta finished dead last. (This was when there were 2 divisions. East and West. I forget but I think Atlanta was in the west.) I remember thinking how lucky I was to be a fan of a great team but I also recall feeling pity for Atlanta.. (The Bucs lost the NL title that year to Cincinnati.) The next two years, the team i pitied at the end of the '90 season, Atlanta, beat Pittsburgh in that same series. Atlanta has been a contender for much of the time since.

The Bucs have never been the same.

Regardless, I am still a Pirate fan. There is no point to rooting for a team strictly because they log W's. The Bucs are my team because they are my team. Simple. And to be honest, this last season was the most exciting in years. Sure, they finished poorly, but for a good portion of the season they were either in first place or were contenders for first. It was... exhilarating. I love my Buccos. I hope this year is the year. 500 is all we in Pittsburgh have wanted all this time. Baby steps.

You know who bothers me? People who root for their hometown's rival team. Why would you do that? There is only one reason, and that is to be an unbelievable jerk to everyone you meet. Why would you grow up in Detroit rooting for the Indians? Or the White Sox? Same thing in Pittsburgh. Don't root for the Browns or the Ravens or whatever! I hate people who do that, uncontrollably. It fills me with mindless rage and the urge to punch someone.

*acceptable times to root for a town's rival team: you moved there from the rival's hometown. your parents are from the rival's hometown, you live in Chicago or New York.
