I don't typically run my laptop off the battery for long. At the rate it depletes I'd give it ~2 hours (typical standard laptop battery life) Two minutes is pretty awful!

I think you need to replace its battery.

My second laptop was like that too until I got a new battery.

My third laptop, which is housing the hard drive from my 4th laptop, has 2 batteries (the second one fits where the CD Drive goes in) which means I can have up to 6-8 hours off a plug. I wouldn't know because my computer doesn't like to tell me how much time it has left when both batteries are in.

My 4th laptop had about 6 hours of charge, I think.

I hate the type of plug where you have the prongs on the box. They just hog surge protectors and there are loads of trouble when it comes to wall outlets..

I think I got this laptop in late 2008/early 2009. A new battery is on its way.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

It is not, nor have I ever run, Vista. It runs Windows 7.

On the topic of operating systems, my dad found an old computer that runs XP in the garage, and gave it to me. I went and bought a couple of better RAM sticks (128MB just wasn't going to cut it - it now has 512MB of RAM), so now I can run my old games properly. SC2k, for example, which does not seem to like Windows 7.

What SC2K does not like is 64 bit operating systems. Your old XP computer that runs it must be 32 bit.

Apparently there is a rerelease of the game that can run on 64 bits, but I don't know if it's available in Australia.

I'm running the 32-bit version of Windows 7. The game runs fine, it just doesn't let you load or save cities. Hence the "not liking".

Genre-wise, SimCity music would be described as minimalism.

Note how Phillip Glass' soundtrack from Koyaanisqatsi has the same sort of sound to it - that is generally considered the defining example of minimalist music.

The battery arrived this afternoon. Pretty good shipping time.

SimCity 2013 looks like it needs the option of using a lower saturation filter.

Also, I completed the last of my Final Exams for the quarter today. I think I did very well but I won't know until after they are graded, which should happen in a week or so.

I can't justify myself spending $70 on any game, especially when I own so many I like that were cheaper.

It was a given from the getgo that I wouldn't be playing SC2013. I don't play SimCity anymore and I'm done with the idea of PC games since they all contain DRM these days.

The other things that we've found out about since then that everyone complains about only further remove doubt from that decision.

I'm not sure. I love the looks of the simulation engine, but the graphics and limited highway system, etc. bug me.

It might be fun to play... but not in the way I currently play SC4.

We'll see... the price definitely needs to come down, though.

Well, the new old computer I got does not seem to like SimCity 4. It meets the requirements to run the game, so I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

SimCity 4.exe starts, which I can see in the processes list, but the game does not.

Backwards compatibility starts to get tough after a while. DOS-era games were simple and can be emulated near-perfectly with DOSBox. But a game from 10 years ago is a problem because it's new enough to be past the simple era but old enough to no longer be current.

Astronelson: Im not sure if I had exactly the same problem as you, but I had a similar thing where SIm City 4 got to the splash-screen then crashed. I didn't think of checking the processes in use, but I uninstalled it and was going to reinstall it but I couldn't fine Disc 1, so I bought it on steam.
