It's definitely directly related to post count. More posts = more blocks.

They were different at first. The original set had you range from 1 to 25 gray blocks, and then after that they started changing color. But even jackie only had six or so colored blocks out of 25, so it was ridiculous. They then changed it to the current scheme where it's just one set, ranging from 0 to 25 blocks (with the files numbered as 1 to 26). Of course, for whatever reason, each icon has a seemingly random set of four numbers appended to it (is someone trying to make my life difficult?), so trying to find them all is problematic. Currently there is no one with icons 20, 23, 24, or 26. That's potentially 40,000 URLs to try in order to find them all. Euch.

Ah, tracking post counts. Are we calling them "blocks" because they actually are blocks or because that's the word I used in my question? I'm open to suggestions if anyone else has something cooler to call them.

Tougher to determine, and knowing how things tend to work, the number it changes at probably isn't a nice round number and may not even be the same number every time.

I'm sure it was made difficult just to make sure you don't get bored trying to figure it out, Duke. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

My guess is how far you are to the next rank, kind of a progress thing.

It is a progress bar, but through all ranks, not your current rank. There is no one with a low post count with lots of bars and no one with a high post count with only a few. In fact, if one looks down the top posters list, they will see the number of bars each member has decrease steadily as they go down it from the top.

This is not an historic post, it is just another post in the fence.

On a side note, while I know it is technically correct, saying "an historic" as opposed to "a historic" sounds weird and makes no sense since "historic" does not begin with a vowel sound.

I find using "an" in front of historic weird too. Although, an hour and an honor sound correct.

This link gave a good description on why and why not to use an in front of historic.

Sumurising that link:

If you speak and write British English, you can probably keep using an before historical, hysterical, habitual, etc. I doubt that you will be challenged by your own countrymen, and if Americans challenge you, just point out that British usage and American usage often differ.

tp.gifIf you are American, you probably should use a rather than an, even in a historic occasion or a historical reference. Most of us are comfortable with a historic occasion, because the word historic has fewer syllables than historical, so the his more fully pronounced. But if, like me, you are old enough to find a historical reference a tad uncomfortable, then go ahead and say an historical reference.

These are interesting conversations.

1. Black court vampires are weakened by garlic and faith based magic (and can only cross water with home soil).

2. Circles are supposedly necessary for most magic and pentagrams only for invocation.

3. I have been reading too much.

4. I speak English and Spanish fluently and want to learn Japanese (and how to order food in Greek, I have food ordering down in most languages). I don't put 'an' in front of hard 'h' words, especially historic and hero.

5. I changed my avatar when the server update made it a crop of my face. Why are iPod styled avatars all the rage?

6. I saw a funny Blaxploitation film today. It's 2 men who get into Harvard with help from their deceased nerdy friend.

Well, you've gone and made me say the word "historic" enough times to make it no longer sound like a word. I find that when I say "a historic" I pronounce the h, and when I say "an historic" I do not. I think it flows better with "an" rather than "a".

Of course, I end up pronouncing it as "anistoric".

Hamish is onto something about American versus British English. It does depend on whether you pronounce the h. Usually over here you hear people say "an historic" in public speaking or in formal writing, but not otherwise. I personally think it sounds a little pretentious.

A blaxploitation movie is an exploitation film with a mostly African American cast aimed at African Americans. They usually feature drugs, violence, and sex with either heavy soul, funk, or rap music. I find them hilarious!

Also, red court vampires have saliva with addicting ecstacy-like qualities (to humans) but look like bats underneath and white court vampires draw energy/food from emotions (pranic energy).

I don't really have a preference for which version of English is spoken, although I have certain habits connected to American English.
