I would guess the Vikings are from Minnesota since the state has a high proportion of people with Scandinavian heritage.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Yeah, I think it's because of all the Scandinavians living in Minnesota, eh? Detroit Tigers are the Tigers because there used to be a military unit stationed in Detroit whose nickname was the Tigers. Ohio State Buckeyes are called the Buckeyes because that's Ohio's state tree. I'm not really sure why Michigan State uses the Spartan as their mascot, aside from Spartans being total badasses.

My high school mascot was the Vikings (they even stole the NFL team's logo). Vikings have no more to do with Connecticut than they do with Minnesota, but the Vikings were an expansion team the year the school opened. Dumb reason to choose it, but what better reason do you want? The other high school in town is the Black Knights. So perhaps in a way the two make logical rivals.

NYU's old mascot is the silliest ever, though. They're the BobCats now, but they used to be the Violets. Yes, they had a guy running around dressed like a giant flower, That's NYU for ya.

I seem to be becoming less of a recluse nowadays. I've been going out at least once a week for the past 3 weeks. Compared to the last time I stayed inside (I missed the beginning of spring) I'd say that's an improvement.

It always amazes me the diversity of exotic ethnic cuisine you can find in New York City. A friend of mine who's a bit of a foodie was talking to me today about going out for Ethiopian food. Which is fascinating - I didn't know they had food in Ethiopia!

I went to Toronto while I was a college student like 8 years ago (*sigh*), and there were a bunch of my classmates talking about the great Ethiopian restaurant they found. There were a couple my wife and I passed in Tokyo while we were living there, but we never had a desire to check it out. Thai and sushi/sashimi are about all the "exotic" my taste in food needs.

There are some things I try to keep an open mind about. Food is not one of them. Part of what prevents me from traveling abroad is my inability to stomach the strange food they eat in other parts of the world.

Thai food is delicious!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

We became friends with the couple who own a Thai restaurant in my hometown. We would eat there a few times a week when we lived there and talk with them, it was always nice. I like to try new stuff, and in the last year I've tried so many new foods I can't remember them all (many of them were forgettable, though). Still, there are some old standbys that I'd rather eat than try something new, like Reece's Peanut Butter Cups or pizza.

Athletes from the various countries of Southeast Asia got together to compete in a marathon. Who won? It was a Thai.

Puns like this really China poor light on your sense of humour.
