Cos[x] is the sum from n=0 to n=infinity of (-1)nx(2n)/((2n)!).

Tan[x] is a bit more complicated. It's in the Wikipedia article I linked, though.

This thing is above the L'Hôpital's rule.

Limits of extra interest

The first limit can be proven with the squeeze theorem. For 0 < x < π/2:

sinx < x < tanx. Dividing everything by sin(x) yields

Not sure whether I've just come to the conversation late, or if the mathematics are way beyond my understanding. probably both.

Don't worry, you could always start a new conversation... The mathematics... Well, I have no idea what they're doing but I know it is University Calculus.

@ Duke lol

@ 111222333444

The squeeze theorem is (apparently) just a somewhat easier way of finding limits. Personally I don't like it that much and would rather use L'Hopital's as (the stronger form at least) is almost always valid, whereas the squeeze theorem doesn't always work.

Also, I keep forgetting Squeeze but always remember L'Hopital's so that probably biases me a bit too :P

@ Astro, yeah wasn't sure. Taylor's theorem/series/polynomials aren't really my strong point..

@Duke87 -- LOL

@Frdm920 -- I prefer the squeeze theorem, although I also like L'Hopital's (which was hospital in French) Rule.

What do you do Muck?

Housekeeping Supervisor and Floor Liaison at a rather large hotel.

I've said this before but math stopped making sense when I got to Pre-Calc. Everything up through trigonometry was a breeze. Maybe I just stopped caring.

It is the scene where England tried to get America drunk but became drunk himself.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

What's an anagram of Banach-Tarski?

Banach-Tarski Banach-Tarski.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

The last movie I went to see was Mr. Popper's Penguins, that was a couple weeks ago. It was pretty funny, I would recommend it.

I'm going to guess Princess Luna of Equestria.

50 Cent is only 46.4166 Cent in Australia, 34.4281 Cent in most of Europe, and 31.1178 Penny in Britain. That's exchange rates for you.
