People still read newspaper? I stopped paying attention to "news" a long time ago. Seems like the same thing on repeat, always some outrage or another, and everyone gets upset for a day or two and moves on to the next outrage. Yawn. "If it bleeds it leads" is not for me. Still, the Times of Troix seem to be a step in the right direction. I may just feel compelled to contribute.

Despite decades of claims of their inevitable decline, newspapers continue to still sell reasonably well, and I believe shall for the immediate future.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I remember reading once that the average America newspaper was written at a 4th grade reading level.

A lot of people still like to read a newspaper in the morning on the train, with their coffee, etc. But you can tell the writing's on the wall because the you never see anyone under the age of 30 reading one. As the younger generations become the older generations, it will die out.

38% get their news from TV (gone up since 2 years ago)

36% online (Gone way up from 2 years ago)

    26% from newspaper (Gone down)

And the remaining two percent don't get the news.

And what of those who get their news from multiple sources?

These percentages probably represent people's main source of the news.

I occasionally get my news from the radio. I wonder if that's gone up or down over recent years.

One of the radio stations I used to listen to was bought out some time ago, and now they just play weird 80s music. They used to play weird 80s music before, except now they don't play good songs like they used to.

And another station (alternative, punk stuff) is gonna turn into a news station now. And I heard from someone that the same might be happening to one of my favourite (classic rock) stations. I don't like this.

Eww 80s music, although N.W.A was a good 80s group.

Most of the stations here are turning into Dance music stations. There is only 1 rock station and one country station and they both play a couple songs and then have 5 min. of commercials.

I decided years ago that radio wasn't worth listening to. I hate commercials. I hate edited music. And today's hit songs are mostly crap, anyway.

I also generally prefer to listen to music on my own terms rather than being at the whim of what the DJ decides to put on. I drive in silence locally and play CDs on long trips.

Most newspapers are written at a 6th grade level. Some such as NY Times are written at a high school and college level, and some are written like immature 4th graders.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I tried listening to the radio around here, but I can't find anything that's not either all talk or 15 minutes of commercials between songs. Back home, I listened to a "new rock alternative" station that still plays music from when I was in high school and college 10-15 years ago, a thing that baffles me. I can't do silence in the car though, so I have my mp3 player to get me by.

All too easy to plug one's mp3 player into the car stereo with a simple cord. Of course, this adds "changing the iPod while driving" to "texting while driving" on the list of stupid things young motorists do.
