I've got tickets to a concert a few days after the end of the world. I'd be so mad if I missed that.

Temperature's hitting the high 30's Celsius here. That's breaking 100 Fahrenheit for you folks using the weird scale. :P

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Hey, Fahrenheit's where it's at, dawg!!

I'm supposed to go out for out bounenkai (end of year party) with my coworkers on the 21st. That's when the thing is all supposed to go down, right? I'm gonna have to think of some good apocalyptic songs to sing at karaoke when we're all good and sloshed.

It's the end of the world as we know it,

It's the end of the world as we know it,

It's the end of the world as we know it,

    And I feel fine...

I guess I sort of missed out on the whole end of the world thing. We all know it supposedly happens on December 21, 2012. But what is the actual basis for this argument / phenomenon? Or was it just some guy who came up with a random date?

The end of the world thing is probably caused by the end of the Mayan calendar at that date...

But the REM song is the one everyone thinks of when you mention "the end of the world", so like it or not it's what's going to get used - it would seem weird if you used anything else.

It's funny to note that this song was used in the movie Independence Day right before the aliens showed up and started blowing up cities...

Coincidently, I was just listening to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. There is a new version out now, but nothing beats the original:

As for "the end of the world", well its already ended countless times before – including last year. So what makes this any different?

It's crazy that some people actually take it seriously, going to great lengths in preparing for these events. Let's face it; if the world were to end, there isn't much point in trying to survive it!

Apparently there's a deleted scene from Independence Day that says we got all our computer technology from the aliens, which helps explain the ending a bit better.

For some reason I never questioned it until learning of the deleted scene.

I've never heard of many of the nominees, although I don't really keep up with contemporary music.

My laptop has set a new personal worst for battery life - between unplugging it and it shutting down was about two minutes.
