I plan on making my city to scale 100% except that I don't really plan on making any of my buildings enterable, but other then that, I hope to get atleast 250 tall buildings in my city before I start to build the outskirts of it. I've done pixel art on mine craft as well:

Yes, how big are your city blocks? What size are the footprints of your skyscrapers?

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

@GMT: I think he was referring to the size of the city blocks.

I was actually wondering if I got the question to the right blocks... ^^

the simcity-inspired city i build on every now and then, for now I'm just suburban, works in a pattern of 256x256 meters inside, with the smallest lot - big news - being 16x16m

the main frame is supposed to be 2x2 of these blocks, so something about 528x528 including the road between the blocks.

for downtown, I guess I'll do a subdivision of the 256x256blocks but I'm not at all there yet so ... let's wait and see how it'll look in 20 years or so ^^

Luckily I do, otherwise it would be 2000 years :}

See, I "develop" the buildings ingame with reference to SC4 screenshots (like I said, an sc4 inspired city is growing) which usually take at least 15 minutes per 1x1 tile building, as I also create interiors

Then I use mceedit as sort of a sim city gui to "build" the city itself, while permanently crosschecking it ingame and finetuning it there aswell.

ok, I'm still learning the nifty tricks of mceedit, it really helps doing the work much faster, but the core works still have to be done. within my 256x256 meter blocks I can say it takes a total of 1.5 - 2 hrs to complete them... not counting the building design phase

EDIT:

a new subdivision zoned and ready for development ;)

2012-06-25_11.12.50.jpg

EDIT2:

should of come over these cool mods earlier, now I gotta redo everything -.-

frak.

but I feel like it's gonna be worth it.

buildcraft, industrycraft, redpower, computercraft, furnitures, oooh boooy

I finally finished captioning my video!

I know the captioning does not match my voice precisely. I purposely tried to make the captions fit the video better and remove filler words.

Me and another guy built an underwater glass cube on hamsterTK's server. I call it The Glass Box, and it is my new home:

I like to build stuff in minecraft. I have a singleplayer world to be creative in, and I also like to play legit survival in multiplayer worlds to see what I can build without cheating.

Here are some pictures of what I've built. Some are from my single player world, others from a freebuild multiplayer server a friend of mine used to have and two others from a survival multiplayer server.

Those are really impressive. How long does it take you to collect the resources and build the structures on the survival server?

Gathering and building takes about a week for a building like that.

Resources are very abundant, it's basically just cobble, wood, glass and snow.

Cobble is everywhere, wood can be easily farmed, sand is abundant too and snow is infinite, you can make it by putting yourself in a 1x1 2 deep hole with a snow golem and then click the ground with a shovel in your hand, it gives you snowballs at a rate of about 8 per second.

When I make big builds in Single Player Survival, I use a cobble stone generator, and a huge plantation of pine and birch trees. I only use oak when absolutely needed because of the high probability of branches. By the way, my server is online now. Join at planetrandom.freeforums.org.

Anyone know of a good server for city fans? :) It can be survival or creative, but if it's creative I very much prefer it to have the worldedit plugin.

I just randomly look at some servers on the minecraftforums or the yogscast forums and choose one that looks like a fairly normal survival server.

But most servers rarely exist for more than a couple of weeks and then I have to find a new one.

I occasionally play on a server run by a friend, however, it's been kind of dead (as in no activity) lately.

That's like the story of Minecraft right there. I love when servers have these big, huge, detailed spawns, and want you to donate money to them, but then they shut down after a week.

Planet Random's server is not going anywhere because we have a limit of 12 people at a time and a whitelist. You have to go to planetrandom.freeforums.org and register (and put your minecraft name on the whitelist application thread) to be whitelisted. We have had problems with "pranks" so even I am not allowed to whitelist people without them going through the proper channels.
