I play on a server with hamsterTK and some other guys. I've made a design for my new home on the server, and I'd like to know what you all think. Here are some screens:

1st Floor:

2nd Floor:

I still need to add stairs to get between the floors, and finish the inside. Then, of course, I have to gather the materials and actually build it on the server. But it's a start. What do you think? Got any suggestions?

I just got Minecraft, and yes, I am very happy for it.

I currently building a world in creative, trying to get it to look pristine, yet populated. Meanwhile I also have started a survival world, built a nice wooden house over a hill in a forest. I see an Extreme Hills biome far away, and there is a cave network just below the hill my home sits upon, so I may venture there later for ores. Meanwhile I need to find some freaking sheep to make a bed, the nights get boring and I fear those creepers. >.<

I played before the demo and read the wiki, that's why I got some pretty good knowledge of the game for a such a short time playing the full game.

It's amazing, isn't it?

I think Dinnerbone and Jens should add hot air balloons. There is no way to travel through the air in vanilla, and I think it would be really fun to be able to do so. It could be made using wool and wooden planks in a certain formation. They should also add more rare items that cannot be gained easily and without a challenge (like saddles in dungeons). These items could be special armor or weapons that give you a special ability or something, but be really rare. More and different challenging generated structures could be cool, too. Once you get established with diamond armor, tools, potions, etc. the game becomes too easy. As always, more ores, blocks, biomes, and items will make the game better, in my opinion.

So, today I attempted to install Forge and a mod, in the end I failed, as a nothing happened when I installed Forge, and when I tried to install the mod (Minecraft Comes Alive) I couldn't find the appropriate locations for the files.

In the end I got tired, force updated my game and now I don't wish to know anything about modding until the official API gets released. The rumors say it will be on January, so that hopefully shouldn't be a long wait.

In my creative world I finished building a whole walled town, named Ravenport (which surprisingly doesn't have any port :P), I may show you some pictures of it soon.

Meanwhile in my survival world, I ventured into the small mines of my area, and excavated iron ore. I also found wolves and tamed one of them, and since nearby was a desert I cut a cactus and planted it on my yard, so now I have a junk destroyer, no more throwing away rotten flesh down the hill for me :) . And finally, I found sheep in the Extreme Hills biome, along with two large groups of cows, so I made my bed.

I have decided not to use mods again until the Plugin API is released. I also have to limit my Minecraft usage during Winter Quarter so I am not sure how much I will be able to play one of my favorite computer games.

I'm using forge and modloader.

took me a couple of attempts to figure out how modding work and how these 2 plugins work together with each other but I'm pretty happy I have them and don't run into that many problems besides compatibility of mods.

before 1.4 I used to have a lot of mods like industrialcraft, computers, more blocks and so on and so forth

but atm I've limited myself to toomanyitems, smartmoving, rei's mods incl. a minimap and enhanced shaders

Well, after meddling in the Minecraft Forums, today I found that mcpatcher (which I use for my 32x32 texture pack) was able to install mods for you in the Minecraft.jar, so I made another attempt and....

Sucess!

With mcpatcher I was able to install Forge and now I all set and ready to roll on modding Minecraft. I still wish to see the Modding API soon though, I would feel much more safe as modding is not officially supported right now.

Anyways, I now have done exploration in the cave system by my house, and placed lots of torches around so I can mine with fear of monsters appearing. My tamed wolf disappeared after I had an accident with it (I punched it accidentally and then almost suffocate it, that made it angry, and after going to sleep, I woke up to find he was nowhere to be seen :( ), I managed to go deep into the ground and excavate gold and redstone in the cave system but I got lost on my way back, since I did not lit most of the route, luckily, I forgot to turn on the difficulty after playing creative mode, so I was not attacked by monsters and made it alive to the surface after being lost for about half an hour.

Meanwhile in my creative world, I started to map the coordinates of the villages, temples and other features I have found so far. I had a hard time with some of them, but right now I have them all mapped, I also started to build a bank network on the larger towns, after reading what Ender chests do, and built a house in a floating island that is only accessible via minecart.

By the way, GMT, how is your airport coming along?

I just read the wiki page on the upcoming 1.5 update, and I must say, I'm very excited. The redstone changes don't bother or affect me because I don't understand and use redstone that much as it is. I love the new block and minecart stuff, and it's about time we get new ores.

I'm tempted to try out either the Technic Pack or Feed the Beast, but I'm worried that if I do, I'll become addicted and will get bored with vanilla. Maybe 1.5 will supplement my desire for new Minecraft stuff, at least for now.

By the way, GMT, how is your airport coming along?

pitiful, to say the least.

I was more active on the real side of flying lately, and if not, I rediscovered the funs of counterstrike against bots and an hd-modded vice city.

overall, I must say, I'm a tidbit farther than I've shown.

I actually have layed down one of the 3 runways - the smaller one, 25L/7R inlcuding it's internal lighting (aka those marking lights on the runway itself) aswell as it's approach lighting and the localizer antennas.

I was waiting for a 1.4 conversion of colored glowstones but it seems I wait in vain...

there also seems to be some sort of a lighting bug when it comes to sunken glowstones, they only light up if you remove and add a nearby block.

Last progress I had was with the interior of the adjecent building.

what's really a downer is the draw width of minecraft, even when modded.

thanks to the shaders I use I have to scale the draw width down anyways to get somewhat acceptable framerates

Well, I decided to only use a minimum number of mods (only one + Forge) until then, so it isn't much of a hassle making the transition.

By the way, I like how the Restone Update is coming along, and those quartz blocks look pretty good, they would be nice to build Greek/Roman architecture with, and the daylight detectors are sure be a nice addition for night-lighting. I already have a few nifty ideas for a public lighting system in my Minecraft towns, once 1.5 is up and ready for use. I am not getting the snapshots because of my mod suite, that is really the only reason for not testing it.

Notch doesn't even do anything anymore except sit on his butt in his Swedish mansion and rake in the royalties. xD

His company and the world modding community do all the work now.

he gave the game poor modding compatibility in the first place... go figure, a do-whatever-you-want-game comes with poor modding...

anyways, no matter if notch is still involved or not, the modding community is so damn strong that it really lies beyond my understanding why the compatibility of the core game and the mods is in such way that every miniscule update requires a complete reinstallation of all mods.

Just how modding works. Once the game's code changes, the mods have to be tweaked. Like how none of the STEX stuff works with Vanilla SC4.

In fact, some of the updates don't even require that. 1.4.5 was compatible with 1.4.4 stuff, and 1.4.7 is with most 1.4.6 things. They were bug fixes and didn't add new parameters to the game.

still you need to reinstall all the mods after every update because of the minecraft.jar being entirely rewritten upon updating the game.

only way to work around is to keep a backup of the modded minecraft.jar, but this in turn means that the updates aren't complete thus leading to missing new vanilla-content or even a defunct game... in the worst case at least.

either way, I'll wait for the big update implementing "real" modding compatibility.

maybe then, things will be different...

The redstone update (I remember when it was nicknamed aspergite) seems interesting. I wonder what the dropper block does?

Hoppers work like pipes, but can't send stuff up. We may need a "dumbwaiter" block for that.

You could drop it in a hopper cart, then send it up a track to a hopper that unloads it.

I've decided to go vanilla for now... (except tmi, reis minimap and smart moving)

layed down 25L/07R today and finished the approach lighting of 25R/07L

incredibly time-consuming "fun" even tho I use mcedit for the main works

I broke down and tried Feed the Beast. I haven't played with it that much, but man, does it add a lot of stuff. Playing it pretty much goes like this: Mine ALL the ores! Mine ALL the ores? Craft ALL the things! Craft ALL the things?

feed the beast is one of the best minecraft mod compilation available atm

here's a nice review video of it.

to me, it seems a bit too overloaded.

I had some of the mods "standalone", namely buildcraft, computercraft and industrialcraft, which totally overburdened my brains playing minecraft

each on their own adds SO many new stuff to the game that it basically totally changes gameplay (go figure, mods change the gameplay) but the 3 of them together?

you seriously have to re-learn the game.

EDIT: but as awesome the pack is, the devil - again - lies in the software updates since the pack adds like 5 times as many things to the game as the vanilla version has, so you gotta be carefull updating your game

yeah, like I said, FTB is an awesome pack to get if you want to enhance you're minecraft experience, but you gotta be prepared for a custom content overkill.

Feed the Beast is definitely one of the biggest pieces of custom content I've seen, not only in Minecraft, but in overall a gaming. And I thought Tekkit was big, that's just overkill to me.

I just downloaded half of HarvestCraft, after running into issues with Xie's Mod that got me a corrupted world (Granted, it was a test world I created to check it out before using it with my sandbox world). I like HarvestCraft more, at least I can get to choose which crops to add into the game, but I don't like that it has an excessive amount of food recipes, it tripled my foodstuffs menu on Creative >.< .

On my Survival Game I have done exploration of most of the cave network near my house, I still don't hit low layers, but I am getting near, as I am around the layer 30 mark already. I only play my Survival mode in Vanilla.

Meanwhile, I created a copy of my creative world to play mods there, I left the other one completely untouched after I started using mods, and I only use AMIDST on it to locate NPC villages. With my mods suite I created a small castle town and I am right now building a town by the sea.

Here is a screenshot of the castle town, called Arlem Castle, when it was a WIP, I still need to "populate" it though, as the only people there are the guards, shopkeepers, the priest of the church and the king. I still need to add peasants.

By the way, can you guess the Texture Pack I used there?
