I prefer to use normal released versions since I am unlucky and bugs tend to effect me most.

according to a tweet by one of the Mojang devs, we'll probably just have prereleases all the way up to next month with the final product comes out. I wonder if a stable 1.9 release will come out around the 18th when they freeze the code and start squishing bugs, or if we are SOL.

Whatever, I have a good laptop and 1.9 pre 4 makes it overheat and crash frequently. I really hope the finished product isn't something only owners of a gaming rig desktop can play on high settings, but if they don't optimize the code it certainly seems that way. Funny for a game with "simple" graphics.

1.9 pre-release 6 just came out today. I must say, I'm really dissapointed with it. The pre-release add more to "The End" by literally adding an end to the game. You now can fight an Ender Dragon boss to "beat" Minecraft. I thought Notch went a bit far with potions and enchantments, but this... this is rediculous.

Also, the pre-release adds a nice door bug to the game where you cannot open or close any doors.

And for anyone who cares: My MC username is MamaLuigi945, the same as my username here.

Those are additional features I have no plans on using.

Some people are complaining, rather loudly and rudely, about these new features but my opinion is that the base game is fun; some of the updates bring some useful/fun elements; and everything I dislike/hate is optional so it should not bother me; I have enough disk space for all of it.

I totally agree. I don't know why people complain so much, because if they don't like the new things added in updates, they can just either: A. Not update the game, or B. Just ignore the new stuff.

I've never complained about the updates until recently. These features are nice and all, but they just don't "feel" like minecraft. They feel like mods. I did like the end, it added a whole new mystery to the game. But it being the actual end just ruins the experience for me, especially with those supposed... credits. >.< And don't get me started on those villagers :) I will be downloading a mod to change them to pigmen.

Yes there are mods to change this stuff, but it doesn't change the fact that it ruins the experience of the game for me. It's just too much fantasy rpg things that really don't belong in minecraft.

On some maps, I disable generated structures to keep out villages, ravines, abandoned mine shafts, and strongholds. It is rather easy. No strongholds, no End Portals, no End, no Credits. Viola! Everything the same as 1.7.3 except for the Endermen, biomes, hunger, and animal behavior. So what did I miss that you hate? However, I enjoy lunar cycles but square makes no sense so I use Faithful 32 with alternate moon/sun.

I like ravines, strongholds, and NPC villages, but I'm not to fond of the Squidward Testificates. (lol) Anyway, 1.0.0 is out, along with many new sounds.

One thing I really don't like about 1.0 is that apparently Animal apawn coding was changed, so building a passive mob spawner will not work anymore. I'm going to test this myself. I'm not sure if this is correct.

One thing I don't like about the new version is everything. This is supposed to be a finished game. Even aside from the bad swamp transitions and NO Ai for the villagers, the ai for every other enemy in the game is still immensely basic and the combat is still boring as hell, despite making enemy mobs even more tough to beat. And dungeons and structures are still unimaginative and boring. The only good part I like and have liked is the building of the game.

Notch is only working part time at mojang now. Maybe Jeb can actually get the game in a good direction.

I've been holding off these opinions for quite some time, simply because the game was in beta and obviously not finished. Now it's "full released" and obviously not finished, just released because notch wanted to up the price of the game.

I would prefer to use the Baby Animals mod to replace the default animals and breeding with the modded version.

This actually changed in 1.8. Peaceful mobs became persistent in preparation for 1.9 (which became 1.0.0). This is really evident when you sheer a group of sheep, leave the area, and then return; All the sheered sheep will still be there.

Since animal breeding is in the game, it's possible to get more animals, and with them being attracted to wheat, it makes it possible to herd animals to gated fields and the like.

On the news of Jeb being the lead developer of Minecraft, this is probably significant news, but I don't know how this will affect further development of the game since I don't know which stuff was worked by Notch and which stuff was worked by Jeb.

Jeb has actually worked on most of the recent things. Like Potions and enchantments. So so far, the direction doesn't seem good.

One cannot make potions without going to nether fortresses. One cannot go to the End without first going to a fortress. All the new content requires generated structures and previous natural features that were generated structures became part of the biome code. Therefore, one can go to the advanced options and turn off generated structures before generating a map and they will not have to bother with these things.

I think that no new features should be implemented until after the Mod API has been released. If Space Toad could go from nothing to a functional one in about a month and is able to update it within a week of each new Minecraft update, the experiences Jens should be able to get a working Mod API before Valentines Day. If people want updates between now and then, I suggest bug fixes, re-balancing, improvements to what already exists, and stability fixes. This includes improving terrain generation, improving biome transitions or making smaller transitional biomes between vastly different ones, creating a new snowy mountain biome with no outcroppings that could not exist in nature, and vastly improving beaches, sea floors, and riverbeds to be more realistic (gravel, dirt, and/or clay river beds, sandy ocean floors and beaches unless the ocean is cold, then gravel ocean floors and beaches, occassional clay deposits in sandy areas, clay and dirt for swamp beds, and lakes far away from oceans should have gravel, dirt, and/or clay lakebeds and shores).

When 1.8 came out, the biomes got reworked. I don't like how swamp biomes look but at least they've tried to make biomes better.

There is only so much you can do with procedural code, and quite honestly... I'd rather that Jeb work on making the game itself better than screwing around with biome code (because I'm honestly getting a bit sick of having to reload a new world every time an update comes out).

I'd love to see more block types in particular, but one day, they'll come along.

Probably anything that doesn't add new blocks. And that's only because they wouldn't have the right textures, I think, but I'm not even sure about that.

You could just install anything, clients don't need to download or install anything themselves, it's all in the server, just like the world's savegame files and the player files are stored in the server.

Direwolf20 on Youtube just did a spotlight on a server that requires no client side mods and during it it shows a list of everything they use. Also it seems like a good server setup too but I am not into SMP yet.

@wiecher: I saw the Technic pack and drooled and then disagreed with the creator of it taking such liberties without permission and distibuting it. However I use many of its parts and then some. I am running 1.8.1 still with Buildcraft, Equivalent Excahnge, Better Than Wolves, Kaevator's Slopes & Timber Frames, Redpower and a bunch of little other addons it's fun that way. I just found the pieces and fiddled with them to get them to like each other.

I am currently waiting to get myself involved in IC2 which is almost ready for 1.0.0. I am going to start a new world with IC2, all of the above mods(minus better than wolves, TMI and Timber) plus, Kaevator's Wallpapers, Thaumcraft, Forestry, Twilight forest, MineFactory. I am in the process of learning java so that I can, for my personal use, make it all work happily. Then I will engineer muchly.

I would very much like to make a serious mod for minecraft but I only have till the end of January till my time for computers becomes minimal again.

EDIT: Here is the link to the videoMy link

    Minecraft version 1.1 is out!

Here's a list of some of the new features

    - Bow Enchantments

    - Golden Apple recipe uses Golden Nuggets instead of Golden Blocks.

    - New language translations.

    - Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes

    - Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds

    - Added spawn eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)

    - Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default)

    - Removed collision box from ladders (This will be changed back in the next update)

    - Sheep eat grass and regrow their wool

    - Red Apples now [occasionally] fall from Oak Trees.

For the full list of changes, check out the version history page of the Minecraft Wiki.
