  1. Need some help finding buildings that work on mac...

Does file juicer work 100% of the time on exe files?
  2. A lot of the nice buildings I find either come in exe or there are essentials missing from the STEX. What are some nice looking ones that work? I prefer modern architecture but at this point I'm kinda frustrated. I know, my fault for buying a mac etc etc. Help me out here though!
  3. The Business of the Global Market

This is all very interesting and I seem to remember having this very idea a couple years ago, but I have a few questions. 1: Do the resources have an affect on the city or is it just another way to make money? For example, if you have no farms or aren't importing food will your sims starve? If you don't have concrete and steel, will you never build any skyscrapers? 2: Will there be a day in the future of the Sim World where there is no more of a resource, for example coal? Or is the world infinite and continually regenerating? I think it would be VERY interesting to see what would happen when all the land is exploited and there is no more of a resource. Is there anywhere I can read up more about these mechanics or have they not been released?
  4. Minecraft

Anyone know of a good server for city fans? It can be survival or creative, but if it's creative I very much prefer it to have the worldedit plugin.
  5. Well yes, but SC4 right out of the box looks a whole lot more realistic than Sim City does. It's all just so cartoony and bright, fake plastic colors. At first I was excited about the new Sim City title but it just seems to be imitating the success of 'casual' games like Cityville in order to make more money. As it stands, I don't really want to read more about this game in the event that I get my expectations too high and then get severely dissapointed, just like Sim City Societies and Spore...
  6. Interesting Science Stuff Thread

an asteroid almost killed us. came within 7,500 miles of earth
  7. What is your favorite SimCity 4 advisor?

Which is exactly why she is the most useless advisor in the whole game. You don't need someone telling you that you are bankrupt, because the numbers tell you how much money you have.
  8. What's Your Affordable dream car?

My dream car is a pair of new shoes
  9. What frustrates you about sim city 4

While it is called simcity, the regions make it feel more like simnation. So what really bugs me is that you can just build a city in the middle of nowhere that somehow gets everything it needs. For example, start with a completely empty region. First thing you need to do is build some roads and streets. But where do you get the asphalt for the roads? Where did the paving trucks even come from? Where do the sims get fuel for their cars and materials for their houses? And what about the fossil fuel plants. I don't see any oil rigs or coal mines anywhere. And apparently sims can grow their own food in skyscrapers, because I never put down any farms. It should be more realistic by adding resources. Not too complicated, just things like food, lumber, and fuel would help a lot. You could get food from farms obviously, and lumber from forests. Later on in the game you can plant tree farms so you have a renewable source of lumber. Fuel from oil rigs and coal mines, or biofuels from an algae plant. If you don't have food, your sims starve. If you don't have lumber, they can't build (or they start chopping down trees by themselves). No fuel means no cars. Would be an interesting way to force them to walk to work.
  10. What is your favorite SimCity 4 advisor?

My favorites are city planer and utilities. City planner because he always showers me with praise and lets me know how awesome my city is. Utilities because he's just cool. Least favorite is probably finance because she does nothing but complain when the city becomes bankrupt. Environment lady doesn't give me water trouble, i just build my water pumps away from industry and heavy traffic. However she doesn't seem to realize that sims can't live in the forest.
  11. Commercial Over-growth

Thanks all for your quick replies I tried the residential city idea. It worked for a little while but then I got the no job thing so I had to build some commercial. I controlled the growth and this new city seems to be stable. But I am still not getting any commercial skyscrapers. This new city is large and has about 300k pop and 140k commercial jobs. It is doing very well. The old one is kind of dead so I abandoned it. :| oh well.
  12. Commercial Over-growth

@jacksunny: tax on all residential and commercial is at 8.5%. I tried raising taxes on middle income commercial but then I got the no job problem again. taxes on dirty industry and manufacturing are at 11% and high tech is at 8%. @ yarahi: education is at nearly 180. i don't think that is the problem...
  13. Commercial Over-growth

Here are the graphs you asked for. here is also my zoning and the buildings above it, so you can see the sprawl @owaen: I tried to stop zoning but soon sims started leaving because they couldn't find jobs. They all seem to want to work in the small offices. as you can see i have run out of space and they are leaving again. also the population is over 200,000. i should have more office skyscrapers but don't.
  14. My cities aren't really making any commercial skyscrapers. What happens is once I begin education and health, the demand for medium office jobs skyrockets and it doesn't stop. So I end up with a tiny corner with residential skyscrapers and the rest of the city is just a giant office park, with no commercial skyscrapers. The offices are employing sims but it just isn't right. The only addons I have are transportation related. Please tell me if you need more info to help me fix this problem, thank you!
