Right now the plan is to make them in order of their completion date. So CitySpire would be next. I actually started on it last night, but the facade is much more complicated than Metropolitan so in an hour's work I only finish one 8 floor section. Also, I'm not sure if I should make the concrete bright white like it was when it was new or as weathered as it is now. I'll probably settle on something in the middle since some of it looks pretty unkept in pictures I've seen.

Paul, the facade of CitySpire Center is not made out of concrete. It is clad in limestone. As a matter of fact it's polished limestone. See in Google street view how glossy it is.

Limestone gets dirty after some time and needs washing. But imho it's not a situation that should affect the texture as buildings owners wash limestone from time to time (and I do think it's long overdue in case of this one). But that happens (as it did with Rockefeller center and ESB) and than it looks almost as good as new. Maybe a color variations between the limestone plates will do the trick.

    It looks great!

And you're right, it's my bad. It's not limestone it's polished granite, gray not glossy  and dark being glossy. I dunno how I made that assessment wrong :P

Even tho they're harder to instance/array :P buildings with setbacks and changing patterns are visually more interesting in sc4 renderings So, it's worth it in the end.

As always you're doing your work great, I can't see any room for improvement :P;) How do you do it that even I can look at those glass boxes without despise? ;)

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Oh gosh Paul, the city spire is such an iconic tower in the Carnegie area. Thanks a lot for attacking it :)

So you are working on all buildings in this area. Metropolitan tower, Cityspire... One57? :P

I hit a small road block. The south west corner of the building is not wall to wall with the surrounding buildings, but google and bing don't have any pictures at an angle that shows what it looks like. If anyone can find pictures I would be greatly appreciative.

Yeah I had seen that one, thanks though. I ended up having to guess at how things lined up in the back based off proportions, angles, and perspective. I think it'll pass for believable, but I doubt it's true to the real building.

Just started have a problem where max won't let me select certain lines and vertices, and when I remove other extra lines it crashes. Also, for a while, when I tried to move certain vertices it would scale them instead. Has anyone else heard of these problems? Google came up with nothing.

No Paul, I prefer to let it to you because this building deserves a high quality render, like most of your models (and regarding the Midtown area you are realizing these days).

Just If you do it, promise me to upload it on the stex :P

By my side I prefer returning to smaller building, but more historic and older than the 50's style ones.  (Tudor City these days, and South Central park in a second time).

WOW! I love how this building is turning out.. and to be honest, this is one of the buildings that stand out, so it will be a great addition to manhattan's skyline!! keep it up..!! btw, are you going to use some curtain textures to give some variations to the windows?

    Aaron: Thanks!

Parisian: Then I'm sure I will eventually make One57 as part of this now 4 tower plan. The challenge will be finding good images of anything but the top 1/3. No one seems to take pictures of the base.

cmdp123789: The curtains/blinds, as with 99% of everything else will be modeled, not part of the materials. You lose some accuracy/depth to the appearance if you just incorporate them into a material.

sten1700: My plan is to release all of the area's buildings at the same time.

I did a test export and CitySpire looked rather greenish in the game so I'll desaturate the green / turn up the red of the limestone. There's still so many little things left to do though.

I'm also realizing that taking even a month to finish a building seems way too long. I think I would be much happier if they took about a week each. I need to get much faster.

What about the Park Ave. buildings? Will those be included in the "package"?

I'm happy to hear about release plans.

Do you mean you need something like this for One57?
