Iv'e decided to make a topic where the People of simtropolis can get rid of thier frustration on constant things that happen in sim city 4. Like for example whatever you do keep making anoying repetitive movements throwing crap at you like: roads are doing well in sim city but streets are becoming endangered 26.gif  A street is an Inanimate object! That DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE!? So have a blast posting your frustrations about sim city 4! 2.gif

well, aside from the occaissonal CTD, there isn't really much to get annoyed about, in my opinion. Unless you play on the easy level, you really dont have to deal with those pop ups. Just ignore those little things and appreciate it for the great city builder that it is. 4.gif

probably my biggest gripe is they didnt make tons of expansion packs for it like they did for the sims... all of the sims addon packs could have been put into simcity 4 and it would have been great... pets, open for business, nightlife, makin magic, university, seasons, bon voyage, free time, apartment life, holidays, family fun stuff, glamour, happy holiday, celebration, fashion, teen style, mansion and garden, and all the others... but no they leave it at deluxe and kill simcity by starving it to death..

Ditro I like your opinion that playing on medium or hard can help but Iv'e played lots of video games and iv'e NEVER done good on higher difficulty levels! 15.gif Plus if you uncheck urgent advice dialogs it will help but not that much because your advisors will STILL annoy you in the advisor window, once again 15.gif

So anyone else want to get rid of stress here o_O

Yall know what stress I want to get rid of? THAT IDIOT ENVIROMENTAL ADVISOR! Water pollution just kinda goes out-of-whack a bit, and spreads out a little to the city's ONLY source of water, and she shuts it down. She says she has a so called "court order" TO SHUT THIS PUMP DOWN! IT IS BLOWING NOTHING BUT AIR!!!! And so I place another one somewhere else and she shuts it down too! Elseware, far away from the city as possible, shuts it down. And pollution there wasnt even that high, just in the yellow! And that means my best city ever, with 400000 residents is SHUT DOWN thanks to that jerk!26.gif

I'll tell you what ticks me off. The fact that that street labels disappear when you work on a road or street!

    - Crash to Desktop.

    - All the bugs (they're equally annoying)

    - Sims not being able of grasping the basics of travel (following the motorway, or save 10 tiles by only taking the side streets, where the traffic is standing still? Cue side street!).

    - Concrete trucks in UDI.

Apart from those, I love the game.

Maybe it was because you were trying to do to many things at once. If the CPU on your processor is maxxed out, then things will stop responding or crash. Do only one thing at a time, see if that helps

Tyson,  you have to look at the context of SimCity and The Sims.  SimCity is a city simulator complete with complex algorithms.  At the heart of SimCity is the BAT and Lot creator.  This allows you to expand the buildings available to the map by creating your own.  SimCity has created several fan communities which contribute to the continued development.  The Network Add-on Module is one example followed by the Rural Highway Module, Network Widening Module, the BSC, the CSX, etc.  So, when you state that Maxis didn't expand SimCity, they didn't need to; the environment created itself and is perpetual.

As for The Sims, you are now in an MMMOOORRPG or whatever acronym you want to use.  Basically, you are online and bound to a server somewhere in the world.  The expansion packs not only add new avatars, props, etc, they also have to add in the physics and interaction algorithm.  I seriously doubt that Maxis will give rights to the server for you to upload that yourself, thus the numerous expansion packs.

Its also a marketing and revenue issue: SimCity is a single player game that has developed into a massive multiplayer community without the need for a dedicated server.  Even IEEE Computer Society had a contest on building a city, then writing a report on the algorithms used and how the city developed.  I'm not sure if they are continuing that contest, but SimCity is a good tool to learn computer science as well as city planning and development.

That Maxis left us and didn't fix one of the major bugs.

    Commute Time.

    1. Traffic Simulation - I cannot understand why in a small city with lots of roads, a sim cannot get to work.  There is very little volume on the side streets and they work about 5 tiles from the home (I'm using the MySim feature).  Also, when I upgrade a road to an avenue, it seems that only one side of the avenue is used.  Why?  I've installed the NAM and hopefully that will help.

    2.  Development - I don't think the RCI alogorithm is as good as it should be. Does anyone have a reference to what SimCity is using for its RCI demand

    3. Resources - I'm not a programmer - yet - so I can't really blame SimCity for the crash to desktop.  However, I wonder if it is possible for an add-on module to autofree memory and idle CPU time every 48 Sim hours.  Also, any AV that is operating in real-time protection needs to have the SimCity folder excluded - just do a manual scan before and after your session.

    4. Too Much Information - There is no way to keep up with all the different fan sites, modules, add-ons, and still have a life left to live.

Even after those four issues, three of which are resolved by add-ons, SimCity is still a fun simulator to play with.  I love the game!

But Maxis didn't have to: NAM fixes that issue.  The community will take care of SimCity.

The next version, SimCity Societies is the current project along with The Sims.  I haven't installed Societies yet, but I have only seen a couple of posts regarding it; one of them wasn't good.

    Commute time irreal.

And the stupid simulator change of cars-buses usage manth-by-month.

    but the major trouble is:

Elevation, Cities Xl have the same trouble, buildings grow in elevation terrains at the same way in plain...

Sometimes the gate of houses are in air, the car maybe fly to street -.-

the sims 1 didnt have any of these and got 8 addons... simcity 4's amount of custom content kills me... it is so unorganized and thrown into the game menues that i play my game without plugins... i have created other areas where plugins are and shortcuts to play the game with all plugins, but i find that it's slow and unorganized (and i thought ea loved money)... it still frustrates me that they didnt even try to exploit simcity 4 with tons of addon packs the same way as the sims

Yes indeed! Ive heard of 30 to 40 minute commutes! And those stubborn sims will use any excuse to get out of going to work. And it is poor people living there, a little tiny Bobs Grease Pit across the street, they can just walk there and go to work, but no! They got to take the busy freeway, and try to beat traffic to downtown! And they end up abandoning their houses due to commute time!!!  I thought they were so stupid!

And is their a patch or fix on Simtropolis or somewhere else that will fix the cars appearing and dissappearing randomly?

Loading times! I find myself doing more waiting then actually playing. A do have my plug-ins folder organised but it's running in an old computer until I have the resourses to buy a new one 2.gif

Still, I'm sure most of you who do play the game with any plug-in at all will be anoyed by the waiting.

The only thing that annoys me is that it keeps crashing and should have an optional autosave feature. It's a great game because of all the plugins you can get.

Most of the really annoying things have already been commented right here, but there is one bug that bothers me the most: The bug you get when you place a beach, or any other lot you place on water, and the water dissapears on that spot after you save the game! I was trying to make a beautifull city along the beach, when all of a sudden the entire water on the shore just vanished before my eyes after I saved the game! Ohhhh, what an eyesore!

There are no brushes, though, with a specific "beach mod colour" to use for my beaches to avoid that stupid bug! 45.gif

i think you should have been able to create sandy parts and place different objects on them rather than plopping... to me that would have constituted a more realistic beach rather than such a copy paste feel...

the biggest thing that bothered me about sc4 is how they completely messed up some of the unique buildings that you could never achieve (city hall, metro station).

another unrealistic thing was that bus routes did not matter whatsover and that you couldnt place them on roads. The capacity is based on the building itself? that is completely nonsensical, it should matter on how many buses are there per hour. There should have been terminals and bus stops seperately.

I know there are community mods and objects that fix these problems, but these things should have been considered/fixed during development.

The problem I hate has nothing to do with technical problems or stuff like that. Simcity is one of my favorite games ever. The number problem i have is that it isn't as flexible as Cities XL. The grid system is really annoying and TOO much uniformed.

Interesting point.  I guess the lack of MODs for the RCI algorithm indicate that nobody could reach it in the core programming.  It could definitely benefit from a few tweaks.

You know what I hate? ADVISORS! They were the biggest mistake to gamers maxis ever made! I hate advisors on sim city 3000 and sim city 4! I think sim city would have done well without advisors!

I Hate downloading one building at a time!!! It makes this game very time consuming to add any amount of custom content.

I Hate having either wealthy or poor cities with no in between. High wealth takeover kills this game!!!

I hate reading the same messages over and over. Get rid of the pop-ups and add some variety to the game!!!
