Hey there!

I was wondering what your personal favorite power plant lot is for sim city 4. I am looking for best in terms of how awesome these powerplants look, how functional they are, and how realistic. (Realistic as in i don't want a power plant that makes 1,000,000 power for 15 simoleans a month).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I actually read your city journal! It was awesome. I wish i knew how to do half the things you SimCity Gods can do. :-) I have been on this website for a few years now and have now started posting..... I know, I am a lurker.

Anyway, I am downloading that powerplant as I write this, and more would be appreciated! thanks!

Good ol' wind power for me. Doesn't take up a lot of space, works fine, and no pollution. A couple of those any my city is good to go. 4.gif

My cities usually can not handle just wind power though, it costs too much for the power you receive.

I really don't like any of the power plants from the original version of SC4. Coal is always what I use because it had all the advantages in regards to cost effectiveness. The pollution issue was just to place coal plants right next to each other and sell the power to neighbors.

Can anyone tell me if there's something I don't know about power plants and what they cost to operate? Coal obviously costs more, so why is solar $1000/month for about the same power? It makes sense that coal power plants are cheap to build, but why is it only $250 per month to operate?

Any power plants that don't follow the game's lack of realism are my favorites.  I do really like large nuclear plants which output huge quantities of power and cost above $100,000 each.  Those are more realistic (In costing big to build.  Output little energy in comparison to their base cost.  And the energy is cheaper than coal.)

All of the games power sources have a role to play in the game.. unless of course you just wish to cheat your way through it. In that case why not just use the "no power" cheat and play without one at all and have you lots "magically" powered? 2.gif

AginCourt, I completely understand what you are saying here....the powerplants definately are not realistic. and it just gets worse as they get more expensive, I mean look at the hydrogen powerplant, if I remember correctly its like 10,000 simoleons a month for 50,000 kw/h? thats a dollar for ever 5 kw/h. Blah. and sc4boy, i never could get any cheats to work except the "weaknesspays" and "you don't deserve it". i have no clue why but no power cheat wouldnt work at all....when I deleted the powerplant, it would say i had no power! (big surprise 3.gif)

Thats the one I use the most.

@SimHoTToDDy: Thats one cool powerplant, thanks for showing where it is.

LOL Those look good, espacially for an industrial or authoritarian like city, and would be even better if they were transit-enabled(That's how I build my simcity societies bad cities:just use the super coal plant).X0

I simply use wind power. It's clean, and you can build a lot of them on little space. Smart!

My favourite power plants are these slope conforming windmills: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22333. I place them on steep terrain where I can't build my city on.

However, this is, as noted earlier, very expensive for what you get. When I have flat terrain, I am with SimHoTToDDy, as well as https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=18848 (from the same uploader), as those power plants simply look awsome!

i add gas or coal when i have 4 windmills over worked

i demolish coal when i have oil size demand

replace oil when i can build solar

replace solar with nuclear when i can

and replace nuclear with hydrogen when available

i try to keep windmills in all my cities not too many though...

ive been working on this method for over year now as i work on my 720 city no plugin region
