I can't believe you got to this point so fast 3.gif love em and I can't wait to use them. I was a little iffy when i downloaded your first one on whether i could use it or not but it turned out great. Makes for a nice filler tower.

for the second one, work on the street level textures [don't use gmax colors for textures there] and the roof top awning/outline type thing [once again, no gmax colors...try a dirty green copper?]. As for the wall texture, using the burn tool in photoshop should work nicely.

WOW!! your buildings are looking so  great, Im going to download both of these this buildings when its done because my city Aaron City is just like New York City in a way thats why im making old apartment buildings like New York City but one thing thay are not real life buildings these ideas are coming out of my head and some ideas are coming from google maps. I would love to been on the NYC BAT team but i need to get my experience up.

I wanted to join NY BAT Team, but my BATing skills are very basic. I can make only simple forms, so I've decided not to. My concern was also the accuracy and scaling, as well as details.I must say that simcity4fan12 is doing a great job with his BATs, but also with founding NY BAT Team. And today I found out you're 15, WOW!!! I'm speechless.

Well actually it would be better if you make it a pack... Im not saying that you must.. but it feels so good when some releases a pack and it contains like 5 buildings in it and you know... I't like something you've been waiting for... so maybe you should take your time make a third as you said before and then release them... I would be the first to download YOUR NYBT CHINATOWN PACK hahahaha put that cause it sounded bad the I would download your pack...!!!! BTW, how's lexington 599 coming?? I want that one so bad guys...

Consider it done! Oh look, it is...

    72bayardst5.jpg

I don't know if you can see the messed up wall texture [because of the Paint program's anti-aliasing], but trust me, it's there. I would desribe it as tan bricks with oozing mortar that's discolored slightly green in some areas. Is that a good texture? As for the awning thing, I need to add grime and dull the black lines.

As you may have noticed, I also redid the roof and roof textures. I finally found some decent satellite images, and it turns out much lighter than I'd thought. It's actually even lighter than in the model right there, but that would be way too bright. The roof junk may need better textures too. Yeah, they definitely need work.

for the second one, work on the street level textures [don't use gmax colors for textures there]quote>

Well, there inlies the problems. The building already doesn't have much of a texture for me to model.

    chinatown3.jpg

See? Just black and brown paint.

    What do you suggest?

Oh, and any other suggestions are welcome.

Kryptowhite: Well, I got to this point so fast because I train with some of the best in the business.48.gif That would be you, if you didn't firgure it out yet.

Aaron Graham: That was quite a rambling, punctuation-free sentence. And thank you!

Vlasky: When I started, I couldn't make much of anything well. Luckily, there are many, many people on ST willing to help. Don't be discouraged by where you are today, be hopeful for where you can be tomorrow.

cmdp[numbers]: I agree. Plus, I have a left-corner building, a right-corner building, so I'm going to need a filler or two. And, even better, a W2W building on two sides would be pretty easy to make.

Honestly, I don't know 3.gif I'll just quote my football coaches and say FIO [figure it out]. It may take a few textures but usually your judgement will be good and you'll find something that works.

@Aaron Graham and Vlasky- Ya'll BAT good! Don't discourage yourselves. You don't have to be the great BATer to be part of NYBT. When I started NYBT, I couldn't BAT that good. We all help each other improve. So ya'll can join if you want to. How would ya'll like to be part of NYBT?

@Jumpthefence- Great job! The texture is a great improvement! I think that white part at the top/or trim thing could be improved in texturing. Maybe some more contrast to it.

    @Kryptowhite- I can't wait to see it!

    Update on HIP-

    23k467m.jpg

I'm working my way up to the top on the night lighting. I'm almost done with that. I'm still adding roof junk. I should finish it late tonight or tomorrow.

Here's something random and off-topic I wanted to share with you guys. I hope ya'll don't mind-

I found this Zeppelin designed for WWI or WWII on Google3d Warehouse. I'm not sure if it's made up from a design but I thougnt it was cool, so I downloaded it. I changed the textures to it becuase they were solid colors.

    20fwc3d.jpg

I might use it for a City Journal I have planned but I'm not sure if I should release it to the STEX...

I have 2 questions to be brought to the attention of NYBT-

Do we have a leader? Or should we even have one?

You know how NDEX, HK, and BSC have there own BAT Team Rooms with different threads in it? Should we have something like that too(if we can)? I think it would be a good idea for seperate threads about BATing the different districts and neighborhoods of NYC. Like one for the Financial District and one for China Town for example. Maybe even some for BATing different cities in the State of New York kinda like Brooklyn. What do ya'll think?

Hey simcity4fan12, did you know that the top of the Empire State Building was originally designed as a mooring station for large blimps/zeppelins? I think your zeppelin could make for a great "back-in-time" city journal story! 2.gif By the way, let me know if you guys want the lipstick building gmax file for editting or anything.

Kryptowhite, I'm so excited for 599's release! 9.gif

Well, quite honestly i think having a leader is a horrible idea. Especially for such a casual BAT team. I like this relaxed sort of free for all atmosphere we have here...its more about new york and batting than the individual people on the team...honest to god i can't name more than 3 people on this team [including myself].

I think getting a team room and a leader would kind of detract from the atmosphere of the team. Besides, team rooms are only made when a certain team is clogging up the open discussion forums or is having its thread posted in so much that its basically dominating all the other bat threads.

Good answer Kryptowhite, I honestly didn't want a leader or anything and I liked what has been going on here all ready. I just wanted to get ya'lls view on it.

I finished HIP, so I'm going to render it and hopefully get a in-game shot for ya'll late tonight.

PBGV103-Yea I knew that.  New York has some great history doesn't it? 4.gifWe don't need to edit your model. It's great the way it is.

Thanks for the invite simcity4fan12, I'd love to be on the team if thats ok with everyone. 9.gif I was thinking about 570 Lexington for my next BAT. Its art deco and art moderne. I really like the building but the top is very ornate, so it might take a while to perfect the splines. What do you guys think?

Yea, I hope it's all okay with everyone eles that, Vlasky, Aaron Graham, and PBGV103 are part of NYBT. We're not exclusive or anything. I invited them.

@Vlasky- It's just about accurate there. The Chrysler Building was not that much taller than 40 Wall Street. In that race to be the tallest, they all actually surpassed each other by a not alot. The Chrysler Building's Spire point barely went over the Empire State Building by a few feet, so that's why the guy that owned it added the massive spire that's on the Empire State Building making it taller.

@Aaron Graham- Those buildings aren't made yet except for the World Trade Center. It was BATed by Rubrik3 a while back. I thought about my own version.

@PBGV103- Your welcome! And good lord, it will take time to perfect the splines on that one. I don't even dare to try Art-Deco Master peices such as that! Good luck! We'll help the best we can.

EDIT: I came across this on SC4Devotion-

    wqra1d.jpg

Makes me wonder what other NY buildings is hidden in the LEX...This one wasn't the best. The building is called the Met Life Building now and is located in front of Grand Central and next to the Chrysler building for those who don't know. Both of these versions are decent(other verison on STEX which is actually a V2 of it, you can find V1 on the official SC4 EA site only), but I think it should be re-done to meet with several standards of detail and texturing.

I'm pleased to announce that Darknono35 is now part of NYBT.29.gif

I finished rendering Home Insurance Plaza, rendering took hours only to be dissapointed by it's scale...

    20as209.jpg

You can't really notice, but it is too tall. It is about half the height of One Chase Manhattan Plaza, and my version is only a few stories shorter. When I scaled it up about 133%, it actually must have not needed it or to be scaled up that much... I'll have to re-render it...

130 Liberty Street is now in the gmax process-

    1oozs1.jpg

It's a low quality render- I'm getting a HQ preview now. The metal tile texture I'm using is actually very small, but I edited it where the long black lines that divide it ended up looking like that in the photo. It has a tint of dark blue but I need to make it darker. I also have to add the muillions and edit that glass texture. I don't know why the cloud ended up looking like that on it...I have to add the roof junk as well. I think it's turning out better than V1 and the original V2 I quit on don't ya'll think?

I have an announcement- How about NYBT takes on it's first big project together? The Time Warner Center! I think some of us should work on individual parts to it, while someone does the lot and someone does the modding. Speaking of modding, Gwail, you alive out there? What I can do is get some good basic shapes and basic detail down for it. My computer can't handle large detailed models. It can barely take some of the skycrapers ya'll have seen me make. So what do you think you guys?4.gif

It had been great to see the NYBT at full steam lately 3.gif!

    simcity4fan12:

I believe I can give you a more complete feedback on 130 liberty building once i will see the HQ preview.

Right now i might only advice you about getting rid of those bright spot on the middle of your glass texture.

I saw your progresses on the downtown club, is coming along wonderfully 4.gif!

    Jumpthefence:

    Very nice building there 3.gif!

The only thing i should point out is that i could see very few of the window frames.Could you make them more noticeable?

    PBGV103:

Best of luck, you will need it.

    What software are you using?

SImcity4fan12 - i love the idea of a group project! but maybe we should do something like the rockefeller center instead? It seems to me that everyone has different BATing styles that look great on their own but the building might end up looking "chopped up" in the end. If we did the rockefeller center we would just have to make sure we all used the same texture for the concrete walls, other wise it should look great. Plus maxis did an AWFUL job with the GE Building, and we could put the staue of Mercury in from the beginning so it doesn't look like it's floating in the game. 3.gif

Everyone - I just started on 570 Lexington today and I was wondering if you guys liked the window refections in google's model. I really don't like the rest of the model, but I thought I might be able to mimic their textures for the south side windows to get reflections of the neighboring building... what do you guys think?

Wow, the Home Insurance Building, except for the scale, is great! But yeah, windows are a bit too blue. I see where you got that, with sun glare and all, but a bit too blue.

    GREAT JOB, NYBT!!!29.gif

@PBGV103-I'm not sure about the Rockefeller Center, it does not look that good, but it really depends on everyone else. I think that would be a good idea with the reflections. How's it coming so far? Any pics?

The HQ Render preview finished and here's what it looks like in HQ Quality-

    2lid30x.jpg

I still need to darken that wall texture then I should start on the mullions and the roof details.

EDIT:citiesXLfan42- You know I finished and released it yester right and saw the first gmax preview of 130 Liberty?

    A) Simcity4fan12-Once again, i think you have over done the blue in the windows. Its a common idea that windows are blue for some reason, but in reality, really only glass towers have truely blue windows like that. My suggestion would be to use a dropper tool and pick the RL color off an image of this building, and use that to make your texture. Thats what i did with 599 lexington when i was having trouble with the shade.

Also, the render looks a little strange...almost like the building is divided into 5ths, and the 5ths aren't quite aligned onto eachother. I've figured that illusion is coming from you wall texture, which is you look ,is tiling significantly. For that texture, i'd choose one pure color/material/image that is tileable, instead of an image with some detail on it like a line or something, so you don't get those lines up the mullions.

@ PBGV- Actually thats not the way to mimic reflections at all. The simcity view render is from above at an isometric view, a real reflection from that view would reflect the ground and the area beneath the building [which is proven by all the 3ds max BATs made with reflections]. Buildings on appear to reflect the neighboring facades from ground level in RL, of course, we aren't in ground level for simcity. To mimic reflections, just get an image from google earth/bing maps and put a gradient in the shade of your windows over it.
