Looks good, but I think the window patterns need to be more random.

Very nice work all around from the Home Insurance Plaza to Bethesda. 19.gif

And I see Conde Nast is finally being worked on, I have the model still waiting to be BATed in my file. RL+ procrastination= unfinished BAT's. Good to see it will make it's way into SimCity.

Kryptowhite, The texture looks exactly like the real thing. Great work. As for the roof I think it needs to be lighter still. I can give you some nice textures for the roof and the plaza/ ground if you want. I really ike the little details on it; the satilite dishes, all the roof junk. It's coming along very nicely.

BTW, What are those black strips on the windows? Nightlights? Untextured shades?

Update: Render in mental ray with new water material

render-18-3.jpg

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Seraf, I know everyone else will be saying this, but, wow... that is really good!

Alright, I'm really here to approve something with Gwail. Is it okay if I use your custom queries(nybtessentials.zip)? I was going to update 77 Water Street(as well as fix a bug with it). I just thought it would look more professional. I figured you wouldn't have a problem so long as I gave credit to you, but I just wanted to check. Plagiarism is never good.

No picture updates on 69 Bayard Street, though I have finished the street level stuff, and the walls are relatively close to done. You can expect a picture tomorrow.

Footnote: I'm plotting to make a City Journal. Hopefully, coming next month. I'll be BATing some for that, so that will take a small chunk out of the time I have for NYBT.

Wow, that was more of an update than nessecary...

Let's make it straight, JtF 4.gif. These are custom queries for NYBT, all team members are free to use it, without my permission. It would be nice, if every member uses it with his NYBT creations - it makes our team image unique. All the credits go to NYBT.

If you use the query (test it btw, if everything works fine), just let me know. It should be loaded first on the STEX as dependency, not included in each creation. You will only refer to the query ID in your building exemplar and note in the description, that the NYBT essentials pack is necessary for proper working of query window. The NYBT essentials pack will be improved any time needed - so far it contains only queries for 3 most common building types.

Seraf, it's a fantastic progress. Anyway, don't you think the pavement color should be desaturated a bit more? I think the pink is too intensive now.

Very nice Seraf! The water gives a fairly convincing effect! Of course it's missing reflections, depth, and shadow (which would come with depth), but I don't know if I would necessarily add these since it look fine already.

A couple pointers

1. on the plaza surrounding the fountain, the white paving seems to have overlapping geometry or bad texture coordinates, making it look a bit messy

2. A good idea would be to do your renders with a neutral grey background to get a good idea of the contrast and shading of the model. Try setting the grey to about ~0.22 for RGB (or brightness in HSB) in environment or apply a mr Physical Sky shader to the environment to achieve the same effect.

Hey guys. Sorry that I haven't been around. I've had alot to do. I've been more focused with RL and my Alexandria LA BATs(and my really bad procrastination habits) that I'm almost forgetting about NYBT. I'm still working on my projects. I'm thinking I might start over on Home Insurance Plaza and model it in sketchup becuase there's some things that I didn't get right(so far) that I might not be able to fix in gmax. Also, I started over on 130 Liberty StreetV2 to correct the depth of the facade and certain other details that I missed and to re-scale it.

lucky 7 - Thank you 4.gif I'm going to make a lot of buildings from central park 4.gif

autoVino - Thanks for comment and advice 4.gif

Gwail - You're right, but I will fix it later, at the end of my work.

    And update:

I'm experiencing some problems with Max at the moment, but I managed to render a part of the model 4.gif

@Seraf- It's looking amazing! You just keep adding on to it. 9.gif

I apologize for my absence here, but my internet has been messed up and (hopefully) its fixed now. I'm going to try to resume my NY BAT Projects. I couldn't do much since the lacking internet, I couldn't look up photos that I don't have in MyPictures. I'm going to be posting progress soon!

I suggest to add those things in order to set the scene for an architecture model:

    - enable final gather

    - create a daylight system in 0, 0, 0 and the sun in a place over the model

    - set as sun "mr sun" and as sky "mr sky". Click OK on the windows that ask you about putting a mr physical sky and about exposure control

    - render

Things seem to have slowed down to my speed here... we're not burning through 5 pages in a week. I can keep up.

Sorry I haven't been here in a bit. Rhinovirus, H1N1, Stomach Bug, I had it all! Seriously.25.gif

I have tomorrow off for Veteran's Day, I'll take some BATing time for that.

    Great work everyone!

Sorry about you being sick with all of that, it's good that you're back! I'm off for Verteran's Day as well, it's also my mom's birthday.

I'll try to get some NYBT work done, I've been working on the HSBC Bank Building and 130 Liberty StreetV2. It however isn't really enough to show in an update I guess, but alot has been done, just with repetetive details. I'm also thinking this which I need an opinion from you all- Should I do a V2 of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Church I released a while ago? Lately, I've been wanting to redo my former BATs since my skills have improved and the majority of them aren't good. I really want to redo it becuase it is out of scale.

Well I started on the V2 St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Church last night. I finished the sketchup process and I'm now in Gmax with it. Here's a HQ Render so far.

    2wdsu14.jpg

Certain details have yet to be added, but I like it so far. Also, soon the HSBC Bank Building in the Financial District might be in the Gmax process by or during this Weekend so keep on the look out for that.

Yeah! Why didn't I think of that?

    69bayardst3.jpg

Aside from roof junk and roof textures, it's essentially done. Maybe a few more street details and more window color randomness, but that's essentially it.

I'm going to refer back to that old BAT saying:

    Measure twice, cut once.

Well, that's a good one too, but I was talking about Good textures are made, not found. I spent all morning, about 4 hours, just on those wall textures. No exaggeration. But you have to admit, it's not bad looking and it's darn close to the real thing.

    Meh, I'm just rambling. Suggestions?

Great work JTF! It's a beautiful model. You got the right idea on everything.2.gif The street level looks fine to me. More window randomness would be great for it!

Here's some progress on the V2 St. Nicholas Greek Church. Below is the W2W version. I changed it's scale to perfectly fit a 1x2 lot.

    2d41w4.jpg

I hope it doesn't look odd the way it's scaled. I'm testing to see if the vertical scale accidentally changed.

And here's the regular version that fits a 1x3 lot but is not W2W due to it's small widith. This one will have a bigger lot to look like the former RL one as it once stood in the middle of a parking lot in front of the World Trade Center.

    1zbrt2.jpg

I'm just about done. All I have to do now is add the sign in the back of it and give it night lighting and it's good to go.

And we all remember our Veterans. My Grandfather was a Veteran in the Vietnam War. He died about 3 years ago of a heart attack.

jumpthefence:Well i've never seen the real thing so i can't comment the wall textures but it does look nice. You've definetely gotten much better since the first time you posted pictures... i really like how this one is modeled. Keep it up

Edit sc4fan: Definetely don't go with 1x2. That looks too fat and squat. Scale it out to 1x3 W2W.

pics of 599 lexington [did a test render] soon. I'll put together the final product this weekend/next week right now i'm just not in the mood to do anything other than sleep and watch south park.

I scaled out the W2W version to 1x3. Does it still look odd?

    25tkghk.jpg

Also, should it function as a landmark or a park in the final versions?

EDIT: Here's the back, this is the regular version that isn't W2W-

    2damuxi.jpg

How do those signs on the back look?
