I just got SimCity 2000. I have a power plant with power next to EVERYTHING and EVERY zoned space, I have water pipes running everywhere(I have a water tower and 3 water Pumps), a fire station, a school, a zoo, a ton of parks and trees, AND NOBODY COMES TO MY CITY! I've tried everything, but nothing works.

I once got a FEW people to come after like 12 years, but they all just abandoned their houses!

PLEASE HELP!

well first of all those power plants beside everything is not a good idea. the power plants will lower the land value there and will drive people away from your cites. Too much pollution mabey. is your commercail jobs close by your residential so the traffic will improve. oh yeh dont put industrial zone right beside your residential thats very bad........

in sc2k you need to put power lines between zones... over roads....

i find it best to drag powerlines over the zones to stimulate growth

and they only build 3 tiles away from the roads... i believe (unless you have commuter shuttle service +1)

our world is a simcity

No, that's SC3. In SC2 it's 3 tiles, period.

Also, look at your RCI demand. You need to zone industrial. That develops first. Then residential. Nobody will move in if there's no place for them to work.

What about connecting the city to a neighbour? Isn't that required to get people to move in?

So I still have my original Super Nintendo and I was wondering if I should get SimCity 2000 or it. I've heard that it's an awesome SimCity game (for the time) and it's still fun to play today. I found a copy of it for about $35 US.

Now I thought to myself I wonder what the 'pros' would think (as seeing that lots of people on here are really good at this type of stuff....city building) about getting an old classic for the Super Nintendo?

I have seen videos of it on you tube and it seems pretty fun. Do you guys it would be a waste of money? Is it worth buying? Is it fun?......

it is my all time favorite video game. having said that it doesn't last as long as 4 does... as it has more limited options and less open source possibilities (SCURK is fine and dandy but no BAT). However if you haven't played it i recommend you do, as it's a great game.

I used to play it on PlayStation 1. I'd definitely recommend it.

I recommend  the game aswell but you might want to hold out on finding a cheaper

one $35.00 is alot for an older game like that.

Way back when I was playing SC2K none-stop in the the simpler DOS 6.2 days, I had a game where in every disaster a caped figure appeared to be flying over the disaster area, superhero-style.

As far as I remember, I never modded my copy of SC2K in any way (can you imagine the hassle with dial-up modems and BBS's?). I don't think the superhero figure helped against the disaster, either; it was just a graphic thing.

Anyone else ever saw this in their SC2K games?

MaxisMan! <3  I think he did help very slightly.. not sure what caused him to appear, though.  I didn't see him every time there was a disaster.

He put out fires and maybe floods. In SCURK he was editable. I made mine red and blue like spiderman 3.gif

Also remember the sea monster? It occasionally appeared in the surface water and made that "rawr" sound. It took me like years before I actually saw that thing lol...Another mystery: did anyone ever get missile silos on their army bases? I know you could only get one military base in the game, playing without cheats with something like 60,000 sims, and it was randomly plopped. My bases always ended up being a random runway and brown RCI zone, too.

I agree with you man, I loved that game like it was part of my childhood. It's why I like Simcity, and I have to admit I don't play 4 much anymore and didn't touch 3000 much either.

The SC2K terrain generator was far more powerful than SC3 and the so-called "God" mode tools in SC4. It really boggles the mind that there is no in-game map or region generator for SC4... Actually, no, its not that of a surprise considering its an EA game.

Also, waterfalls and hydro-power rocked.

So Maxisman really helped against disaster, eh? Nice, though kinda unfair considering his appearance was totaly random. Or did he always appear in big cities?

Yup, like you'd expect from a superhero, he stops/prevents disasters, and the people cheer.

He's made to appear through a combination of a large population and a high approval rating. Not sure what the threshold on either is.

I always played with disasters off, so I only ever saw him when I decided to cause them intentionally to destroy cities (admit it, you've done it too). In which case, he was annoying! 31.gif

Same here. Years.

Also, it's not a see monster, it's Nessie.

SC2 was full of little easter eggs like that. Did you know that the sailboats generated by marinas are queryable?

The type of military base depended on the nature of your terrain.

Ocean coast: Navy

Flat: Air Force

Slightly Hilly: Army

Very Hilly: Missile Silo

I attempted to get the missile silo once, but I wasn't able to get up to 60000 sims with so many hills in the city. Remember, in those days hillside tiles were undevelopable!

So, like a lot of people, I've only ever seen it through SCURK.

Ah, Nessie.  I actually made a city composed of two islands and completely filled the shorelines with marinas in an attempt to get Nessie to appear, as I had heard that Nessie only appears with marinas.  No luck.  Then randomly, in a city with only two marinas on a river, there she was, making her way down the river.  Only time I ever saw Nessie.

I saw Nessie in the Sydney premade city once, and only once. I've heard the 'rawr' sound in about every city i've built but i thought that came from the Zoo or something lol

I'm trying to revive interest in simcity 2000. I am posting to promote...

SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, (because) we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. (computer performanceIt had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard.

SimCity 2000 Network Edition

In another interview on May 22, 2004, Wright stated that Maxis is currently attempting to work out a "new direction" for SimCity after new versions had become "steadily more complex".

SimCity 4 was praised for being the first game in the SimCity series to primarily use a 3D engine to render its graphics.

One of the top ten selling PC games of 2003 (because of Simcity 2000 fame).

wikipedia

can't find the topic anywhere on simtropolis: you don't need good graphics for the game to be great

i'd LOVE to just get a new computer, preferably something really designed to gaming, and then, running sc4 but
I won't accept sc2k as it is. I believe if we can mod sc4 insanely, we can mod sc2k as well.

interested in modding simcity 2000 (should be a much easier to do than SimCity 4 mods). thanks. hello. hey.
have graphics and computer performance issues with simcity 4; played sc4; appreciate the difference sc4 has made in my life.
interested in integrating sc4 ideas like sc4's GROWABLES, and some PLOPPABLE buildings that eventuallly work themselves into GROWABLES, integrating sc4 ideas/slamming sc4 ideas into the 1993 simcity2000.
interested in sc2000 plugins/expansion pack.

does anyone know how to mod sc2000 based on what they know from sc4?
nusbacher: SC2000 can't really be modded, apart from using the SKURK.
interested in making 8-bit sprites in SKURK
not just drawing buildings.. there are plenty of buildings to be downloaded around if one simply searches simcity2000 on a search engine
i love the growables in sc4. i want to do something like that in sc2000.
interested in traffic modding simcity 2000. thanks. hello. hey.
I've heard you're unable to or it's not possible to do to sc2000 like we're doing to sc4.
blue lightning: thanks for your response.

no. scurk isn't like sc4 mods.

mass transit, $ residential commercial, Autobahn-like organic highways
just interested in integrating the ideas from sc4, like sc4 growables, into the older sc2k game. a dislike for ploppables except in the case of arcologies. mAYbe.
Simcity 2000 is dead when your disk is broken.
http://org.dailyflashid.com/gallery/ubuntu.jpg

does anyone know how to getting into Simcity 2000 and make mods/modifications. I've had enough of Urban Renewal Kit. I want to go back like Will Wright said (in the year 2004) and make Simcity 2000 more like SimCity 4.

looking for modders for Simcity 2000

I like the Autobahn in Germany

SimCity 4 Mac Users, and, arcologies

Worst thing about SimCity4:

excelling graphics but its resultant demand in computer performance

Best thing about SimCity4

makes me want to go back and play Simcity 2000, making mods along the way

I'm currently working on

making Simcity 2000 moddings like the ones that were made for sc4.

My goal was to mod the game to make it better, that's what mods do right? But I am very inexperienced, and up till now, none of the members are modders so I am calling out for help! I know enough to tell you what the file formats are for the game and such, but I'm not sure on how to tap into them to fix the game. Is there anyone who is willing to help, at least in teaching us how to mod the game? It would be greatly appreciated by all of us, and hey maybe you may even like the game and help mod the game!

Im not sure why you choose to say above in 3diff messages.. but as far as im aware there's no modding to turn SC2K into SC4, i don't think its even near possible.. i'd get a better PC..

I'mk pretty sure the only thing that you can download is new tilesets ; ie : New buildings that replace the old ones. By loading them into the city tile.

just to throw a quick comment... why not try simcity 3000? its already much like sc4 in many ways , and I really thought it was a lot of fun...

I just wanted to throw it out , does anyone think its a good idea? I still have the disc and registration code for simcity 3000 unlimited.

nusbatcher: WELCOME TO SIMTROPOLIS! you might want to try the edit button right by the reply button in the posts... your not really supposed to post a bunch of things in a row like that... but I kinda did that when I was new here too.

Hope you enjoy it here and stay in the forums!

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that SCURK sounds like a dirty word of some sort? 3.gif

basically

1Thanks for expressing interest. Yeah that's exactly what im trying to do. reMobilize a community for sc2k fans so that we can fix and mod the hell out of the game to make it work. Hopefully it catches on!Further mod the game to make it simply better.

2I think the concept of the game is awesome

3Anyway I am starting up a forum for a SimCity 2000 Community.

Hopefully there are a couple of you out there who are like me in wanting to revisit and reappreciate this game.

Do you actually have a copy of the Network edition?

Could you please, please post a screenshot of the game? I've never seen it before and have always wondered how it works?

Not compared to the "Reticulating Splines" voice when you use the terrain editor 3.gif

I still have Simcity 2k installed! BTW, I have the game running a 64-bit Vista PC,if anyone needs help doing the same just PM me. Anyways guys I don't know if you can "modd" SC2K except if you cracked the game. SCURK just lets you edit the graphics of a fixed set of buildings, and nothing else.
