I really miss SimCity 3000 but I can't get my copy to run on XP. I've been up and down the internet searching for a fix but nothing ever worked. The only thing I didn't do was download a NoCD patch for my version. I'm not exactly sure which version I got, anyway. CD art only says "SimCity 3000" and "Made in the E.U." but I don't remember if it was the unlimited or delux or what-have-you. What happens is the game installs alright, but when I try to run the game I get an error message that the CD is not in the drive. Nothing works after that: running with Win 95 support and all that does not help. I was hoping someone knows of this problem and how to get around it. Thanks.

The SC2K terrain generator was far more powerful than SC3 and the so-called "God" mode tools in SC4. It really boggles the mind that there is no in-game map or region generator for SC4... Actually, no, its not that of a surprise considering its an EA game. Also, waterfalls and hydro-power rocked. So Maxisman really helped against disaster, eh? Nice, though kinda unfair considering his appearance was totaly random. Or did he always appear in big cities?

Way back when I was playing SC2K none-stop in the the simpler DOS 6.2 days, I had a game where in every disaster a caped figure appeared to be flying over the disaster area, superhero-style. As far as I remember, I never modded my copy of SC2K in any way (can you imagine the hassle with dial-up modems and BBS's?). I don't think the superhero figure helped against the disaster, either; it was just a graphic thing. Anyone else ever saw this in their SC2K games?

Thanks a lot, Muck! That was very helpful! Kudos to David and the author of the rain mod, too!

Is there any way to draw a bridge over land, like a canyon or valley, or over any land area between two elevated segments of land? I've searched the STEX database for "bridge" but didn't find anything. Maybe I searched wrong.

Cities connected soley by mass transit

What about connecting the city to a neighbour? Isn't that required to get people to move in?

Yes, indeed I got my answer, though it took me a while to realize the European English version is a LHD version of the game. So I just checked LHD in the NAM installation and everything works fine. Thanks for the help.

tungston, I dont understand. I dont check the lefthand drive when I install NAM and I never saw anything in-game that refered to lefthand\righthand requierments. EDIT: I installed the June edition of NAM and this bug is still there. I installed only core NAM files to be safe, but no joy.

What did you expect? They did the same thing for SC3 when SC4 came out. All attention goes to SCS now, and when the next SC game comes out they will abandon that one too. And we keep buying from them... Anyway, I downloaded the patch manually from the official website (automatic update had some problems, for some reason). compsimgames.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm

I started using the recent NAM (April 2009) on my SC4 Deluxe version 1.1.638.0, and found that building railroads, elevated rails and monorails over roads effectivily cuts that road segment from the network. Automata will not drive over/under it, U-Dirve It mode ends when I try to pass over/under it, and most importantly this cuts actual access for the AI to its destinations. No-driveway icons appear if the rail passes over/on the only road to a desired destination. I made sure this is a NAM issue by uninstalling it and building rails over and on roads without NAM, and the problem did not appear. I then re-installed NAM with different components deactivated (only diagonal roads and roundabouts active, automata and traffic set to standard; or only automata and traffic mods active and road add-ons disabled; and finally only core mod files active) but each time this issue appears. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way to fix this (excluding NOT building rails over roads). I've searched the forum and didn't see any reference to this type of problem, which means either no one has ever built a rail on or over all the roads leading to or from a certain destination (that is, there was always some road somewhere with no rail over it, allowing the AI to reach the destination while increasing commute time); OR that there's something unique in my installation of the game or something which causes problems.

Wow. That was truely inspiring. Thank you! My original idea was to have the downtown area and all the major commerical buildings in the center, I guess civic buildings would go in the second inner ring. Thats where the mass transit system needs to have the most networking, thats the merging point of all the rail systems. I think the outermost avenue ring needs to be a highway in order to compensate for the longer circumfernece, though I don't know if a highway will actually change commute time from the periphery to the rest of the city in terms of game mechanics. Certainly commute time will be deteremined by residential area density and its location in relation to commercial and industrial areas. So assuming the blue collars reside on the periphery and the educated businessmen live closer to the center, what type of high system would serve the city best? Should I surround the city with a highway that connects with the radial roads, or should the radial roads themselves be highways terminating in the second inner ring where the denser commercial area begins?

My fault for not making myself clear enough. The mass transit network is exactly the thing I'de like some suggestions about. Yeah, should have said "suggestions" and not "feedback." How would you build a mass transit network on this kind of layout? Where would you put the highway? How would you set up the rail, and what type of rail would you use? Why? SUGGESTIONS much appritiated.
