Hi everybody!

A special great thank you to Cockatoo who convince me to open my own Bat Thread. I hope  you will help me, giving advices for my new bats.

I am working currently on an ambitious project (for me I mean) which I named "Brickell on the river" which is a Miami Building. This project is divided in three smaller projects:

- The North Tower

-The South tower

-The link between the two buildings which include parking cars and swimming pool.

Here is a Gmax pics of the south & North rendering view which give you an idea of what it will be.

P.S:I have no idea of how is the base floors of the North building (The left bdg on the first pic) . So, if somebody can PM pics, I'll be very thankful!

That looks great. Very well detailed. These types of multi-tower complexes are appreciated as they're not common in game. If you're looking for suggestions, the windows on this one bring things down. They're awfully plain. The concrete walls are also a tad clean for my taste, particularly up by the roof. Looking forward to see more. The model is incredible and I know all too well how annoying it can be to work on angled buildings.

    Hi Spa:

You are right for the windows and the walls color. I  shall work on that later, because for right now I am still working on the size of the bdgs. I mean to fit well between them. I have to work separetely and then merge them together. Anyway , as I am not good in texturing , if you have advices, please don't hesitate to give some tricks.

Hey, great to see you got your thread up.

Firstly, the textures on the towers are a little too clean. I'd darken those window textures a little and get a decent looking texture on that green rooftop.

    Here's a pretty good site ---> http://cgtextures.com - you only get 15mb a day though.

If you can't find any pictures from the northern angle, just make it up! Use similar buildings as a reference, I can't imagine it would be too difficult because 90% of the modeling is already done.

Can't wait to see this thing completed, you should think about doing some HK stuff next (shameless recruitment, I know 3.gif) High-rise is obviously your favorite, there's some real wicked stuff in HK and China, check it out, it fist your style nicely.

    Hi Cockatoo!

Yes of course, I would like to Bat something from HK. But, everything is already done by the HK team 9.gif. I  even started the Marriott Hotel when I discovered that Paulvmonfort already did it ( one of my favorit of his Bats).

Seriously to come back on your suggestions, same answer I did for Spa, i.e. retexture the windows . For the walls and the roof I have a little problem that I would like to share with you all. Here is a pic from google earth:

    borroofsq.jpg

You can see clearly , the green roofs and the white walls with not too much deterioration , because the bdgs are new, I had the same pb with my first Bat, because the same reasons (new buildings). So, I am wondering, maybe I should definitively work on the windows textures where I have more freedom but and also the terrace garden that I would like luxuriant ,then I'll focus the attention more on these last points and nobody will take care so much about the white walls and the green roofs. What do you think?

Working on the windows is a good idea, but don't forget about the walls. You will need to texture them, even if they're recent.I think that gathering some pictures and trying to make a texture from there is a good idea. Also, don't forget to add a vertical gradient since this building is quite tall. With this small tweak, you can greatly improve the realism of your BAT.

I can't really add anything constructive that hasn't already been said, but you're off to a great start and I can't wait to see more! I'm glad you opened a BAT thread!

Thank you all of you, I am also very glad to have opened this BAT thread, I was not expecting as much benevolence.

Xyloxadoria: Thanks a lot for this pic, It was exactly what I was needing. I realized that I made some mistakes.

Francis90b: You're suggestion for a gradient is very good. I already used it for my last upload. At the biginning, I though that the rig light with Gmax will be sufficient to give this impression of depth, but it is not working so well.

If you have ideas for the roof, feel free to tell me.

Thank you for your comments, I 'll spend some time working on this Bat before I can show you something decent 44.gif

To help you passing the time, here is an other project which is the Dalian World trade Center (the one which was built, not the one I already upload...)

Congratulations, that's indeed magnificent. May I ask how did you model the the angled truss structure on the rooftop? As a novice BATter, I'm very keen to learn from professionals! :-) Did you use splines and made an array from them, or made a poly and then latticed it? Maybe used an entirely different method? Thank you for your answer.

Querido Gn_leugin: Muito obrigo, faz tempo que eu nao falei portuguez, Disculpe mas eu nao sai escriver muito bem...44.gif

Wagner: Ha, ha, you want the Batter's secret, ha ha ha, the secret is that there is no secret, only work, work and work again ("Lazy Masterpiece doesn't exist"). But today is your lucky day. Because I am still an apprentice (Professionals use 3 ds Max). But first ( as my technical english is not good at all regarding Gmax or building) , I would like you to precise few points.

    1) Are you talking about 1 or 2?

i was talking about the no. 1, but if you like to add anything more about making no. 2., I will read that also 9.gif

I've been into batting for few weeks, and the very first thing I realized is that - like you said it - it does require a lot of time and work. But so far, that hasn't took away my enthusiasm 4.gif

The Dalian World trade Center needs a larger lighting rig.

In the lighting rig folder (CamLightRigs in the gambeacks/bat folder) copy one of the files such as TB2_CameraLightRigBig.gmax and rename it to TB2_CameraLightRig.gmax and paste it in the startup folder so that the lighting would be correct. If that rig is too small, try the same procedure with a larger rig. Try not to change or rename the files directly in the CamLightRigs folder as you only have one copy of that unless you decide to back that folder up.

I like that fancy villa. I also hope you make more Miami BATS, there doesn't seem to be very many.

Your new tower is very nice! Most of the textures defiantly need to be dimmed though (remember Gmax lightens textures when it renders them). Putting in a larger lighting rig will return shadows to the top of the tower, making the roof look fantastic once you’ve added more junk. All in all this should look good when it's done.

Maybe add some reflections to the glass sections of the tower (ray-tracing) if you plan to export this into Max.
