I say stick with the PC because I really doubt you will make that much off a MAC version but if you want to throw money out the window well let us know.

More seriously, as some of you already stated, we are a small developer and we are putting all our "guts" in this project. We do not have any big publisher supporting us and we are facing it on our own with money we raised alone to let you have a chance to play CITIES XL.

Therefore, every penny we spent in development is really important and when we obviously thought about porting the game to another platform such as the Mac, we decided to focus on PC Windows first because it has the biggest market share which, if successful will let us put some more money to port the game to Mac. 2.gif

That's our plan for nowquote>

And its a fantastic plan.

And Im sure that if all the mac users on this site took some time to think about it, they would rather want a Windows version of the game with a slight chance of a mac port, rather than no game what-so-ever...

I'm dreading the days when the Windows users all have Cities XL and the mac users are all stuck in the SC4 forums with the PC users off chatting about and modding the new game. I'm kind of glad Cities XL is coming out at best later because I have stuff I still want to do in SC4, since I've only had the game for about 1 year. Also, I have a question: Is SCS considered Sim City 5 or is it some game that Maxis just threw in there? So is the next Sim City going to be 5 or 6?

Sim city socities was i think just another type of sim city, and they are planning to make a v2 of it, so i do believe that they might bring out a Sim city 5, but they gonna have to work hard to beat Cities XL

Will definitly try that for the demo with my Intel MBP. any not Intel mac should'nt be able to run the game as they are 4years old machines anyway 2.gif

still hope we got a Cider port fast 4.gif

I'd greatly prefer a true port than a cider one (which would not be a port actually), but a cidered version is still better than nothing.

In any case, I really wish to see CXL working natively on the mac, as I'll never run windows on my box (I boycott Microsoft for a number of reasons).

SCS was developed by Tilted mill productions & not maxis. the game was a joke imo. An extemely simplified, dumb downed version of simcity that was sooooo easy.

Anwyay, I don't personally believe that there will ever be a simcity 5(or not for a long time) as maxis just does the sims now & EA wil never let them away from that franchise. 8.gif

I wouldn't get too mad about CXL not being on Mac because even SC4's Mac port is much inferior to the PC (no gmax, custom nightlighting, slow, etc.)

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

USA Patriot, making a game for multiple platforms is very expensive and we prefer right now putting all our efforts on the Windows version and make sure we make a good game.

Now, it doesn't mean we someday make a Mac version but USA Patriot, I'm sorry and I don't want to give you too many hopes but you'll have to wait... quote>

Not that much if the game/software is designed from scratch to be portable (OpenGL, SDL, etc... you now).

Blizzard has always developped this way, and it seems it's never been a problem to them to get both Mac an Windows version out the same day (and on the same disc).

I don't blame them for not making it for Macs. Macs are a small market. Mac gamers are even a smaller market. And Mac gamers that play city builders are a microscopic market.

If you want to play games, get a PC.

There will have a Mac version of this game.

It is written on a French site (this game is French) that make an interview with the Monte Cristo's CEO.

I couldn't get the demo working in CrossOver Games, it has installed, but didn't launch, maybe after tricking it will be possible. I just made a fast try.

I believe that the Mac version of SC4 was not written by Maxis but instead ported by another company.

MAC software IDEs are very expensive. Especially the top tier APIs. My Husband worked for a company and they had to shell out a LOT of money for the API for thier CRM software for mac.

Also alot of them require some form of royalties per sale on your applications. This is what really scares devs from making anything good on a mac.

Also the market share is too slim to justify paying for such an expensive API.

Hmmm....well i think its a good idea that MC is doing this, not putting it on mac for now. but i also think that they SHOULD put it on mac in the near future. yes, truth be it, macs are in the minority when it comes to computers, yet there is a great percentage of mac users that would be interested in the game. i personally know 10 people or so who have macs, and they get VERY frustrated when they cant buy or use a program b/c its for windows only. but they love their macs, and will stick by them to the end, which is perfectly fine; its their choice. but for a smaller company like MC, they really cant just blow their money willy nilly because they dont have any to do so. Companies like EA, blizzard, etc, can because they have the resources to do so. and why do they? because consumers trusted them and bought their games..(EA...SIMS, EA Sports games, etc.....Blizzard....COME ON!! World Of Warcraft?!47.gif) But, just being truthful, MC hasnt hit a exceptional, million dollar game that appeals to the public YET.. but who knows. Maybe CitiesXL will be the game, maybe not. But when they do hit that one game in the future, and they start getting money, then, and only then can they afford to give everyone, mac and windows users alike, their entertainment at the same time, for the same price and quality.48.gif

49.gifP.S. i own a toshiba satellite A215 with vista and built a desktop with a dell shell/ asus motherboard with windows 2000, ME, AND XP...love my desktop, hate my laptop. i am a proud windows user, going to buy 7 after a couple months and put on my desktop(so itll have 4 OS..crazy but suprisingly versatile) Current status--Saving up to buy a Macbook to replace my laptop..44.gif

Awaiting signature arrival...

What area do you live in becuase there's certain areas like NYC or SF etc that have great percentages of mac users and thus, the people living in tat area may think mac is more popular when it is in fac extremely small market share.

Actually, the de-facto standard IDE on the Mac is free (and in fact comes with every copy of Mac OS X), as are all the APIs you need.

Well this is the Mac tax. But I'm disappointed still that it isn't going to be released for Macs in the near future. Though, hopefully they will profit enough to port the game so that my Macintosh brothers and I can play the game.

The CXL Forum has become so busy and, shall we say, animated, that it is a fairly big job moderating it.  Moderators are marking the point to which they've checked threads by posting in this way.

Well, I think that Mac deserves to have Cities XL, because PC seems to get everything, and we Mac users deserve the freedom of having these kinds of technology.

The second thing I've noticed is this quote said by a Simtropolis Moderator "Hamish": "I'm sure that if all Mac users on this site took some time to think about it, they would rather want a Windows version of the game with a slight chance of a Mac Port, rather than no game whatsoever..."  I find this confusing, because if you think about it, around 70-90% of Mac users only have Macs.  Not to be offensive, but I find this comment a bit awkward.  We wouldn't want to go out and buy a Windows for the sake of a game like Cities XL, right?

Think about it.

"70-90% of Mac users only have Macs". Take into consideration the fact that MAC has a less than 6% market share pentration, as compared to over 91% for Windows (estimated). Since city builders are never a really hot item (if they were then we would be comparing CXL to SimCity 5), adding a port for MAC would have been an even bigger disaster for CXL given the costs to maintain a MAC port. MC is struggling to stay afloat as it is right now. That added overhead would have just made increased the rate of their downfall.

Mac doesn't deserve anything, and nor do Mac users. Macs have a very small market share, and Mac users should understand by now that Windows is the gaming operating system for computers. You, as a consumer, made a choice to purchase an Apple product, when you should have known Apple computers rarely have games ported to said operating system.

You have the freedom to choose an Apple computer over a Windows based computer. HOWEVER, you must also deal with the opportunity costs of owning an Mac OS over Windows. One being that games are rarely ported to Macs. You deserve to live with the consequences and the rewards of owning a Mac. That is all.

What did you mean by 'version 2'? Did you mean SimCity Societies Destinations or a SimCity 5? If it's a SimCity 5, could you provide a link? I can't belive this till I see some proof; I'd really enjoy a SimCity 5 but I don't think EA would make a new version so soon with their last attempt being a failure and Maxis moving onto different projects like that TV show. 22.gif

Also, unless MC can begin generating a reasonable amount of revenue, I don't find a Mac version likely. Mac gamers are a very small percentage and Mac SimCity fans are even smaller. On top of that, since the computer game isles started downsizing from 2+ isles to 5 feet, it seems that most all computer games don't receive a spotlight anymore in the gaming world.
