Sirron Kcuhc Yep. That's the plan. And I will make money. Just like EA would if they would wake up and make SC5!

Abcvs The region looks like a pleasantly hilly land. I like hills. Especially benevolent and green ones.

citiesxlfan42 Looks like a great place ti import Fancy Feast. Though methinks it doesn't sell well in Schulmauckland.

Hester I am pleased to do it.

Sirron Kcuhc By landscape do you mean the terrain mod? It's the Olympic, found on the STEX. The buildings used to be on the stex but are now exclusively on the LEX under the name Mickebear.

Leech10 The canals have not been used much for transit, but rather as reservoirs and fish farms. I suppose they ought to build a proper transit canal at some point. You have a church steeple like that in your town? In my homeland, we usually have these:

    exterior_sm.jpg

But here, you can find about anything from Gothic Revival to traditional to modern and sleek.

Sgt Pepper Your declaration is welcomed and appreciated.

Markus J I am not sure I know where that would be...

    ComputerGuy890100 Cool! 9.gif

citiesxlfan42 Not terribly long. I started with the church and built around it. I experimented with using as few streets as possible. If you look, you will see there are virtually none. It is my most streetless city ever (to date).

lucky7 I am glad that you are pleased and Schulmania welcomes the ACT and Terra Canis to our alliance, the ever-popular League of Quadrapeds. I am thinking we need some sort of official name for the quadrapedal alliance of Schulmania, Schulmauckland and Terra Canis. [And, for anyone else out there whose CJ is ruled by cats, call us]

Leech10 New stuff is in transit now!

Sirron Kcuhc The buildings are Mickebear Mediterranean ones. One of my favorite sets.

Muck308 We need some more pix of her. She is such a cute kitty. The Bureau of Feline Affairs is working on a reorganization. She may be due for a promotion!

Abcvs The entourage has now reversed course. Docking time ca 1900.

Simbourgeois Thank you. I thought it would be nice to do it that way so I am glad that you agree.

Benedict Always good news. And with no evil buggs in sight, we can all breathe easier!

No mega reply reply? And the steeple(s) are brick, not stone, but mainly the similarity is that they are just really tall.

Bringing over the goodies to the next page...

Some interesting close ups of the revolving globe map...

    3rXU8c4Lsn1.gif

    NamMap.jpg

I have found several clusters... one is along the California coast. Another is Florida. There's a cluster in the Toronto-Buffalo area as well as a big clump from eastern Virginia up through New Brunswick. A fourth large cluster is a quadrilateral bounded by Chicago, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Mississippi. A good size cluster is forming in Texas as well (no arrow though).

    EuroMap.jpg

Wow, Europe has almost a solid line of red dots from the North Sea to the Mediterranean. There's a big cluster in England and one that spans the Benelux countries and Switzerland as well as western germany. Northern Itlay has a lot of dots as well.

    Hold the Line

After the Battle of the Castello, the situation on the ground in the eastern theater was as shown on the map below.

    easterntheater08-4a.jpg

    easterntheater08-4b.jpg

Queensferry has pressed all the way to the defensive line anchored by Chateau Briand. There is no fancy strategy for Queensferry at this point. With troops and an ever-growing supply of materiel on the ground, brute force would be used to punch through the line and capture the island. Thousands of troops have been deployed and they have the artillery needed to do the job. Here's the simple plan:

    easterntheater09-1a.jpg

    easterntheater09-1b.jpg

Queensferry's army will face the bulk of the army's IV Corps, including all of Divisions 6 and 7. Embedded members of the BFA 29th Division TRT are also in position to defend. And, here's what they see.

    09confront2.jpg

    09confront1.jpg

    09confront4.jpg

This enemy force looks quite formidable.

    09confront5.jpg

    09confront6.jpg

There's no point in waiting for the enemy to get into position; we need to strike now!

And attack we shall. As soon as enemy targets got within sight, Lt. Gen. Catalan (IV Corps, SNA) gave the order - fire at will. And the troops responded. Catapults launched flaming debris over the walls... archers shot flaming arrows at armored vehicles... marksmen fired crossbows at every enemy within range. TRT squads were dispatched to outflank the enemy on the right side and create havoc on enemy supply lines and slow their advance.

    09counter1.jpg

    A hit!

    09counter3.jpg

More hits! These rear echelon vehicles were targeted by TRT squads; one led by Sgt. Major Michael Archean and one by Major Hester Tubaflame.

    09counter5.jpg

Catapults and archers claim another casualty.

    09counter6.jpg

They did not expect such fierce resistance. There goes another tank.

    09counter7.jpg

The TRT strikes again! Thousands of bullets and mortar rounds were blown up. Unfortunately, Corporal James D. Logan was mortally wounded by enemy return fire. He will have eight more lives to defeat the evil invaders.

    09counter8.jpg

Despite our success, the assault on our positions continued...

Queensferry's 18th Armored Dung Beetle Regiment continued the relentless assault on our positions. Supported by helicopter gunships, they blasted away at the wall and our positions behind the line.

    09attack1.jpg

    09attack2.jpg

    09attack3.jpg

As our fortified line began to weaken and our base camps fell under increasing attack, it was decided to fall back to the northern end of the island. Hopefully, ships from the second and third fleets would be in position to help evacuate personnel before the island could be overrun. Being captured is not a good option when facing Queensferry.

    09attack4.jpg

    09attack5.jpg

    09attack6.jpg

As losses mounted and the defensive front weakened, the decision to withdraw was logical, though the wall had yet to be fully breached.

The cost of remaining was high and the outcome not in doubt. The island would fall into enemy hands. It would most likely become a base of operations for a campaign of continued aggression against Schulmania. Though this battle is certainly a setback, our forces will regroup along the east coast and be prepared for the inevitable invasion.

Exactly how many nuclear weapons DO we have?
Well, seeing ground attacks and defensive maneuvers aren't working, what about an air strike?
Load up C-5A galaxys with supplies for a ground strike, and have them land at the closest airports to Queensferry, and start the reclaim of territory. Then have the whole force come through with DC-10s, KC-17s, F-15s, B-2s, the whole works, lead off by reconnisiance satalites and C-19s, which are super-stealthy un-detectable planes. Then have the others follow close behind. Do the locations of the countries allow for a naval strike? How many carriers do we have in the fleet?

    Schulmania's Experiment!

    Slantacular Diagonality

    3fa1dcd43a66d-38-1.jpg

I have seen quite a few folks do the diagonal thing on their CJs and have occasionally slipped in a little something diagonal here and there. But for the most part, I have not. So, in my experimental region, I decided to try out a mostly diagonal city, so I can get a feel for how diagonal looks and plays and how to use space well with the diagonals and all that good stuff. I am showing you these pictures and my thoughts about each. You are certainly welcome to add your comments as well. If you have a particular picture you are referencing in your comments, please identify which picture it is by number.

    And now, the experimental pics...

    Picture 1

    010112.jpg

My thoughts: Diagonal means a lot of space sorta not being used.

    Picture 2

    010111.jpg

My thoughts: This one turned out pretty well. Lots of 1x1 and 1x2 buildings on the slants.

    Picture 3:

    010110.jpg

My thoughts: Using diagonals restricts the size of buildings and tends to give me a good deal of repetition.

    Picture 4

    010109.jpg

My thoughts: Space is not really wasted in this intersection. But, the buildings are stair stepped instead of transitioning smoothly.

    Picture 5

    010108.jpg

    My thoughts: Not bad...

    Picture 6

    010107.jpg

My thoughts: My diagonal grid seems to have a decent amount of unusable space in the middle of the diamonds.

    Picture 7

    010106.jpg

My thoughts: I am puttng trees in the unusable spaces, but it seems a bit odd.

    Picture 8

    010105.jpg

My thoughts: Some straight roads help use the space better.

    Picture 9

    010104.jpg

My thoughts: That domed corner building if turned at a different angle would be prefect for that spot.

    Picture 10

    010103.jpg

My thoughts: Some of the diamonds in the diagonal grid have space for 2 1x2 or one 2x2 building at the intersection. That seems to work better.

    Picture 11

    010101.jpg

    My thoughts: Kinda stair steppy...

    Picture 12

    010114.jpg

My thoughts: Really stair steppy... and repetitive...

    Picture 13

    010116.jpg

My thoughts: That little 1x1 will be out of place...

    Picture 14

    010117.jpg

My thoughts: Not a good placement for Fashion Bug... no ne can see it except from one side.

    Picture 15

    010118.jpg

    My thoughts: Slanty!

    Picture 16

    010122.jpg

My thoughts: Not efficient use of space.

    Picture 17

    010119.jpg

My thoughts: Some buildings are suited well for diagonality...

    Picture 18

    010113.jpg

My thoughts: Off course, some are designed for this. Not very many, though.

    Picture 19

    010120.jpg

My thoughts: This one turned out well.

    Picture 20

    010102.jpg

My thoughts: So, let's all come over to my house and celebrate slanty diagonality!

Hmm... some diagonal is good, but too much isn't, unless you have plenty of diagonal buildings.

Edit: Leechville II? What happened to Leechville I?

And the buggs are being problematic.

I like the diagnols, but until there are more diagonal buildings, you will still have that bad waste of space.

Schulmanator, I noticed in the past few updates, there haven't been replies.

    @Sirron Kcuhc: Yeah...
