Modd or Mod?

I myself spell it 'mod'. But most people spell it 'modd'.
My question is, why is it spelled 'modd'. You don't spell modification 'moddification'.

So in my quest for truth, justice, and good (well?) grammar, I would like to know how YOU spell mod(modd).20.gif

EDIT: doubble post.42.gif thought I clicked cancel! HA! stoopid me!3.gif47.gif

Why is this posted twice?

Actually, both are correct for different situations.

A mod is a moderator, a special rank among forumers who have special powers in certain forums

A modd is a modification to a game, particularly in our cases Simcity 4.

Some sentences for example:

Screwball used to be a mod, but he resigned over a year ago.

and

One thing that's become almost essential for full gaming experience in Simcity 4 among Simtropolitans is the Network Addon Modd.

See?

The additional d on exists on the latter term for clarity, and was added to that one since the other term existed first.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
If you can read this, you deserve a cookie.

I spell it 'mod' or 'modd' according to the situations that duke described. It certainly avoids confusion but I guess that in some cases, it's pretty obvious which of the two you're talking about. 48.gif

    A possible linguistic explanation:
In my opinion, the second d comes from the verbe 'to mod', which is an abbrevation for 'to modify' but actually doesn't exist. However, using the past form, the word mod gets a double d: modded. The same for modder (=name for the person who modded). Knowing these forms, people started to write modd to not mistake a moderator with a modification.

But how does that sound? The modification banned me! Somtimes it's just common sense that makes the difference.

But that's just my theory... 1.gif

Personally, I tend of think of mods as our moderators and modds as our modifications to the game..although it does get a little confusing when it comes to Tropod, as he is a mod who modds!   18.gif

English can be very complicated. I have mostley spealt a modification to a game as modd for no real reason. I tend to call moderators moderators to avoid confusion.

Well I usually refer to all of those as different words...

mod - A rank given to helpful members of an online community that moderate forums.

modd - a modification for Simcity 4 or any other games that allow modding.

modification - a change in anything in an area around you

    Yes, Dirkk!18.gif

Anyway, around here, modd=modification, and mod=moderator. Adding letters to the end of something usually means something that is an addon, or someone involved with an addon. After all, addon has two Ds.

Mod can also mean modification too. Modd is just the way most Simtropolians spell it.

I use Modd. It's how the Modd Squad spelled it back in the old days, so that's how I spell it.

I've never really thought about it 20.gif34.gif. I personally tend to use both abbreviations interchangeably.

I'm a mod who modds....or is that a modd who mods or modd who modds......how many modds can a mod modd, before a mod goes crazy moding modding modds 3.gif3.gif
