I am getting this the second it comes out. Graphics are awesome, and from what I've heard so far the gameplay allows zoning, plopping, and curved roads. I heard they plan on adding some minor personality elements so that each neighborhood can be more unique, but nothing like in SCS or CL. My only concern is how well my PC will run it.

well considering they're using the ingame graphics to showcase this game I'd say there's a fairly good chance that WYSIWYG i.e. the game will look as good if not better when they've optimized the engine by 2009.

I'm glad somebody mentioned this. The trailer says nothing. Maybe pessimistic but the previous CityLife was very hard to enjoy, SCS had novelty factor then got boring and SC4 is just sooo dated now.

The only city games I play now are CaesarIV and the surprisingly good Tycoon City New York.

It looks absolutely amazing - Just when I was having second-thoughts about whether I'd shell out the money for another City Building game..... A very cool trailer and I will definetly be getting CXL now,

This really is going to be epic. I think the Sim City series is truly dead now with this whole childish sounding wii game thingy coming out as the next version of SC, which is a shame, but luckily you guys have come to the rescue for us SC4 fans anyway.

I'm throwing all my support behind Cities XL now, keep up the great work Monte Christo, I can't wait to get a closer look at this game.

@Cockatoo-210893: Honestly, Nintendo versions of any game in the Sim(including the sims franchise) games selection is always taken out of context, so that truly doesn't tell you anything.

After seeing this trailer, I'm pretty excited, I would like to see more about how it'll be, like a designer or producer walkthough of how things work so I can see if I will honestly like the game...because I still haven't seen how the lot system will work.

The picture says yes!4.gif I guess there's just massive grid because it's like a mini NYC styled city...

Me too.2.gifquote>

I see your point, but then why aren't there any "burbs" with non square lots? That's kind of a bad sign.

Actually, I don't even see any rectangular lots. That's really bad.

I think I will wait for peoples opinion of gameplay, A game needs to be better than just a visual gem if its going to stray me away from my amateur art career 3.gif

I still dont like how the buildings are all in a grid in how they are constructed size wise, would be nice for a bit more coding detail to allow free space to be taken up by gardens and such, its not even hard to code D:

Good graphic in the trailer and surprised by the buildings

but the roads seem to be quite simple and the colours are kinda mono

It looks so good. Even if the real game doesn't half as good on my PC, I'll still love it!

I still insist that Monte Cristo should have done a, and maybe they have, a CG artwork for how they aim the game to look like, and try to realize it. I think that SC4 and SC4RH had good artwork which showed vision, such as the one at the SC4RH cover.

Good graphis, isn't? But in video have a delay during some scenes. It's video problems or the game is very hard for the machine used for trailer?

I think a thing: my poor machine, oh, my poor machine. A Pentinu 4 64 bits w/ 1 GB and a Ge Force 5500 256 MB V-RAM isn't sufficient for this game. Oh, my God.

Sniff, Sniff...

It's looking really great! The graphics look incredible. Although like some have said, I hope it isn't going to be all square lots and such, that picture with the city doesnt look very realistic at it's edges, because it suddenly stops at the road. I guess we will have to just wait and see. Perhaps they will have a demo?

I think you are a bit over optimistic over the graphics...

First of all remember what you see here is very fast moving picture - and it is so for purpose - it hides all the glitches and oversimplifications really well. Still most tall structures look uniformly beige, even those supposed to be covered with glass. The hardware limitations are there , there is simply no way around it. But "stone" city in this game may look really good from certain distance. One way to make custom buildings to this game might be doing hi poly model and then make noraml and texture maps from it to use on Low Poly models for the game itself. Also baking in ambient occlusion and may be even reflections of more general nature.

True, like all games.

For me it all depends on how easy it is to get around and add to your city. Simcity 4 had quite a good menu system with the different sections but once you had a bit of custom content the menu would take longer to load. As long as they get the core of the game right like SC4 did then I can't see anything rivaling it - City building is still quite an open area in the gaming industry now that simcity seems to have changes its priorities,

Simfox: It looks good enough for me...although I'm iffy on the beige being everywhere, but oh well...and if it's got really good replay value then I'll buy it. Remember...games aren't aways about graphics, it's about game play.2.gif EA forgot that when they made SCS...

I agree, the next generation city simulator really needs to improve the interface. Ive already suggested a search function. A good structure for objects would also be expedient, maybe the size of the object could be noted in the menu.

"Drawable" flora, canals etc would also speed up the creation of cities considerably.

Really BIG problem from that video to me is the re-use of City life roads, they are ridiculously out of proportion and not realistic, I mean when have you ever seen a pavement (sidewalk for yanks) that is as wide as one/two lanes of traffic? never bar the maybe one road in the whole of the city you live in. I can only think of a few in London at least.

Also the buildings looks kind of 'meh' they look too flat, at least the sc4 buildings have well defined edges the ones in the video looked like ones from an old game where building wasnt the main focus, they just look a little bit 'cardboard cut out' to me.

Still it does look pretty nice and would make a change I guess I just hope the game play is on the same terms as SC4, if it has inter-relations of class status junk il sling my copy out of the window. Not interested in that just want to build a city and manage it financially please. OR on/off feature for social management stuff.

Yeah I heard a few suggestions of search functions which I think is a great idea. I think that the more information display in the menu about the building or object the better as it would save time and in-game money compared to SC4 where you might plop a building but then realize it not what you wanted.

After reading the CLXL's website, I'm impressed. One idea for building things like transit systems is having "plan" and "commit" phases. This would add to realism since subways and highways can't be built instantaneously, it would help get estimates for cost, and would eliminate the need for an undo button and save us all from the "oops I didn't mean to bulldoze my power plant" syndrome.
