silvermac: The 'short' answer: The ANT ( Additional Network Tool ) is part of the NAM ( Network Addon Mod ).  It is a type of road created by Maxis that was left out of the game ( Dirtroad Tool ). Luckily for the NAM team, the code was still left in the game to use. It did not have textures, so the team added ones similar to the normal road networks. If you have just the NAM, they will look identical to roads, except that they have double the capacity and zones cannot grow on it. There are several other mods that change what the ANT looks and functions like.-qurlix

If there are mods that can change what the ANT looks and functions like, then is it possible to make the ANT the new draggable GLR tool?

Apologies if this is in the wrong form.

I believe they were going to do that at some point in the past, but when they discovered that they could make el-rail pieces that were lowered to ground level (GLR as we know it today), they stopped using the ANT for that purpose. And then they started using the ANT for diagonal streets, but then they found a way to do that too without the ANT. And now the ANT is being used by the Rural Highway (RHW) guys, and since the ANT can only be one thing at once, they're not going to try to use it for GLR. (I might be wrong about the ordering of some of those things above, I didn't pay close attention to GLR back in the early days.)

On a totally different issue...

It appears that one of the two pillars in the road over blank terrain puzzle pieces have rendering issues. I think someone discovered this earlier while they were making lots to create under-overpass eye candy (I can't find that thread now). Anyway, the issue appears to be that one of the pillars' polygon normals is inverted. This makes the near face transparent, and the far face visible, creating odd visual effects. This appears to affect the following pillars:

E-W straight piece - south pillar
N-S straight Piece - west pillar
All straight diagonal pillars
Curve piece - Oriented so that if you're going north and turning right, the west pillar (all orientations)
4-way intersection piece - south or west pillar
T-intersection piece - pillar under the left side of the T
N-S Road x E-W Rail piece - south pillar
E-W Road x N-S Rail piece - west pillar in the american version of the piece, east pillar in the british version

One-way road pieces have this issue as well, but I don't have time to enumerate them right now. I'll edit this post when I do.

elgoalio_29, I plan to add new bridges to the next version of the NAM.  That bridge will probably be one of them.

Keiran, I noticed the problem with the support pillars way back when I created my first puzzle pieces.

The next NAM will probably fix some of the puzzle pieces that are affected; I have the patched models needed to do it.

Hey I tried searching the forum all over. I installed the NAM and am trying to use the EL Road Stacks. There are some crazy things though... How do I turn it? I use the EL Road T-Junction and it's still just a straight peice of rail up top. Also where are the stations? I went through and put rails over one of my entire cities only to realize I didn't know how to get people on the rails. 9.gif Anyhow I'm really sorry if these have been answered but I've been looking for 2 days and searching the forums and reading readmes and just can't figure it out.

You can turn the puzzle pieces by using the keys: HOME and END.

By using the TAB you can change between the different pieces.

By stations you mean GLR stations ? If so, on STEX searchs for GLR, lightrail, tram, JEC.

I know I can turn them with home and end, but every peice has a straight section of rail up top. None of them are a turn so I can make the rail curve. All of this is referring to the EL over Roads. The Double Decker thing or whatever.

Sorry if it has already been asked (and answered) Will the avenue roundabouts be incleded in the new NAM? I am wondering because there are currently no roundabouts for avenues.

Thanks.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

The avenue roundabouts will be included once they are done - it's kinda useless to ask, since it depends on the schedule of the NAM team when and how to include new stuff. Everyone is working hard, but we can't make any promises. They will show up eventually, that's for sure.

Hi,

I have NAM and everything, but I can't seem to figure out how to make ramps like these:https://www.simtropolis.com/stexindex.cfm?keyword=Jeronij%20CMD%20Walls%20Addon%20Ramps.

My highway is sunken to 15m just like I think it's supposed to be, and yet the ramps I try to put on there sink the service roads a little.  I'll try to post a screen shot.

Dussin,

Use the Single-Sided Parallel Onramps from the NAM instead of the Maxis Parallel Onramps. They can be placed close to each other. The NAM onramps are configured to conform to sloped surfaces. The Maxis ones are not configured to conform to sloped surfaces.

The only person who knows how to reconfigure them is Tropod, who is involved in Real Life events. If there is any one else who knows how to reconfigures the Maxis interchanges, I don't know.

I just did a quick test and I got it to plop properly on the slope on my first try.  As far as I could tell, traffic also seemed to work correctly.

I would need to do a lot more testing to make sure everything is OK, because I do not know why they were done that way.

Will this be part of the new nam? Or could you make it as a special mod?

Thanks

Are slip ramps for the ground highway in the works? There are already ones for the Elevated Highways, this would allow us to build more realistic exits and junctions with NAM puzzle pieces.
Thanks

Thanks. I got NAM pretty early on in my SC4 playin' career, so wasn't sure which ones were custom and which ones were NAM. I eventually found it, though. Sorry for the late thank-you, but I find these long threads kind of difficult to navigate with the new forums.

Why are pages 109-111 empty? It makes it kinda hard to read this thread for new posts.

There aren't the same number of posts per page in the new forums as in the old, so when posts were moved over, the number of pages stayed the same, but there weren't enough posts to fill them all. At least, that's what I've been told is the problem.

I would have said the empty pages represent the missing posts that were lost during the transfer. The first post of this topic is (as I remember) by far not the first post it was before transfer.

I have seen this behaviour on various topics and already reportet it in the bug-thread.

Give Dirk some time to resolve the issue, he already did a big job... or wait until the new posts fill the blank pages.9.gif
