I was wondering if it was possible to make a traffic circle, cuz right now you have to make it using a one way road and it doesn't look very circular.  I was thinking there could be a 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5 version.  I think it should also be possible to connect up to 8 roads to it.

Tropod, make sure you remember to put some supports in that bridge. It seems kind of funny looking at the moment, but this is a great breakthrough. I look forward to seeing the final version.
    quote>

Yeah, soon as I realised this whole thing could be done, I realised supports may of been needed for those particular ones, otherwise just looks too odd.

    So, I'm hoping this is a lot better then;

    /idealbb/files/Special_FuzzyLogic.JPG

As for the sections with multiple networks on them [road over rail for example] I have no intension of adding supports for them [least not at the present time anyhow. Maybe with a later version though, depends].

I'll probably do this for Avenues as well. As for doing Puzzle Pieces for Onewayroads though; well I'm not quite sure yet, as onewayroads may be a little more difficult to do this with [considering the nature of its pathing system].

The thing with all this will be to realise that RCI zones will [still] be able develop along side this. Whether folk will see this as a good thing or bad thing; well, I for one like & would probably prefer it that way.

frogface; It's those sorts of pictures that make me want to leave in the Overpass Prompt Window that appears when crossing networks. I doubt the same effect could be done if the overpass was placed manually. Nicely done 2.gif

Woah I love it! But PLEEEEEASE make it with avenues, and add some on-off ramps so that we can have 4 lane highways. They are very common around here in PA and in any rural area really.

Looks great. I was wondering, is it possable to make it, so you plop the overpass, and then drag as many roads, rails e.c.t. under it?

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

Yes, I too love that avenue overpass.  Some of the best inventions were mistakes!

I forget about this thread every so often and the next time I come back you guys are working on 2-3 new things every time.  I love it!

    I HAVE AN IDEA!

This is a proposition for a new type of network.

On an Aircraft Carrier, airplanes are propelled into the air by being hooked onto slingshot-like things that have incredible speeds and allow the planes to take off in such a small area. I would like something like this for cars. The network would be three tiles wide. Its pretty much a super-expressway, and goes straight from the starting point where traffic can enter to the ending point where it can leave. At the starting point, the road actually moves like a flat escilator, and the road would be strongly magnetized. The Cars would be stuck to the road and the road would be moving at speeds of at least 200 miles per hour. The middle tile would contain equipment used to power the magnets and keep the system moving so fast. There would be no intersections, and other networks would use overpasses. The network would end and be able to be turned into an avenue when it would have to be stopped so that drivers could leave the network and enter local regular roads and vice versa, and then could return to the magnetized network. It could be used as a fast way to the other side of rivers,a fast loop around the city, or a quick bypass of downtown traffic. This network's capacity would be a little smaller due to the fact that to much traffic would cause to much air resistance on the system and slow it down.

    So what do you think?

With the slingshot thing, that would be cool to see the cars flying by, and a bit interesting to see what would happen if there is a crash, like the is on crowded roads. But its a cool idea.

I had an idea of double or triple decker roads, not highways but avenues and stuff. I always get slammed by not having room in downtown areas or islands where there is little room. Forgive me if it was said before though, this thread is very long.

That would be a cool thing to see. I sure could use it.

    On a completely off-topic note:

I thought Minority Report was a great movie.

    On another completely off-topic note:

    This is my 499th post - 1 more until I hit 500!!!

OK - enough of me being off topic. I will shut up now and allow normal Network Add-on discussion to take place.

Tropod: Does this new Puzzle Piece development mean that we can simulate plopped networks (other than neighbor connections/bridges)?

Something I've been wanting for a long time is a elevated rail over road, like we have here in Chicago. Is this possible using this method?

And how about that Viaduct Rail I PMed you about a while ago? I did some prelim BATting, if anyone's interested.

Anyway, this is all pretty cool. All of you guys are doing great work.

Could someone involved in skinning/RULing/PATHing PM me regarding the progress on the urban overpasses? Thanks.

One thing I wish could happen is the elevated rail to ground. I think it's possible, but there's been a thread on it that said that it was possible, yet it would take so much. Another thing I wish could go in is working traffic signals on oneway streets. I need those.

It is possible. You just won't be able to drive through it. Elevated Rail isn't UDI-compatible, so you wouldn't expect that anyway. It'd look weird, too, because they use different vehicles.

Could you direct me to the thread you mentioned, Rodney? I'd like to look it over.

Elevated avenues with supports like that and workable on-off ramps would be so awesome!  The avenue over avenue already has been the best thing I have seen released yet.  I can't wait for the stack interchange.  You guys make Sim City 4 so much more fun, I wish there was a way I could contribute like that but I just don't know about modding. Thanks a lot and keep the stuff coming!

    This is really cool people, great work! I have 3 questions;

    1) In europe we have a lot of road2road or avenue2avenue cross-sections in the form of roundabouts /traffic circles (see rough sketch below.) Would these also be possible. I know the game lets us 'draw' roads a bit like this, but then the curves are relatively 'sharp' (2nd picture). I would really like to see some smoother curves.

    2) In the railroads smoother curves are possible compared to roads (2nd picture)... wouldn't it be possible to also get this option for roads.

    3) Is (or will be) the avenue turning lane project be a part of the network add-on modd? Seems to me like these guys are also making user-made cross-sections.

I see the road can be done above ground, but what about below ground?  there is an urban overpass, what about an urban highway/avenue/whatever-road-would-work?
    /idealbb/files/Highway

I took the highway pieces that i got from this site, somewhere, i can't remember which thread exactly, and i did a little fudging around in BAT, and came up with this.  i just dropped the highway down and added some walls and a ramp.  it is just to get an idea of what i mean.  But anyway, would it be possible to strip this road out, or puzzle piece it in?  I would be more than happy to BAT this, and the individual highway pieces fit on a 1x2 tile (like normal) and the interchange i could try and squeeze onto a 3x2, or or make it a seperate 1x2 add-on, but i think it would work better if it were part of the same tile as the highway.  just a thought to help a lot of people out who wish to build a highway downtown.  let me know what you think.

Ok; here is the first release of a PuzzlePiece plugin, for the main mod.

Unzip the file, and place the unzipped file in the exact same folder as the Main Mod from the Mods page.

    PuzzlePiecesPlugin.zip

This basically includes Puzzle Pieces for Road overpass. Future Puzzle Pieces are on the drawing board [like Avenues for example].

Because of the way that these puzzle pieces need to be treated, I must insist that people take a look at this thread for an example/sample on how to use them: Network Mod; Puzzle Pieces

The above file also includes a OneWayRoad over GroundHighway overpass, but with no on/off-ramping [this only functions properly with US version. I will do/fix the UK version later]. This can & will be built automatically if the conditions are right [the highway can only be 3 or so tiles long], otherwise this particular overpass is included with, & can be found, in the OneWayRoad Menu Button.

If someone, a Batter, is able to create a Corner & Intersection Puzzle Piece for Road, that conforms to, & like, the existing Road Puzzle Piece(s), then it could open up a whole new level of game play 6.gif11.gif.

brtim: We can't have Network Tiles underground. RedLotus found this out. The Urban Overpasses are just regular, above-ground overpasses changed so that they are 4 tiles long and have a flat deck when you put them over an entrenched highway. Entrenching can be done with proper terraforming. You can give it retaining walls with PEG's CDK and CDK Highwall sets. They aren't available anymore, but they will be in the near future.

And don't send PEG's lots illegally - knowing him, he'd probably file suit!

Okay I have to say I LOVE THIS new addition this is the start of something real good. I posted a pic of some of the things you can do with it as is. Seems there are some small glitches still but Tropod has mentioned that already in a post up top. anyways check it out.

I sooooooooo want to download the new additions, but alas I have 8 more days until I have my internet access back at my home. Oh well I guess in the meantime I will just have to drool over this stuff. I am afraid that by the time I get online again, this mod will be as big as the game itself 3.gif.

Hey, Tropod... I don't remember if this was covered earlier in the thread or not, but the puzzle pieces (awesome, btw) brought it to my mind:

What about diagonal network pieces and non-orthognal intersections/overpasses? Will it be possible to have a horizontal road overpass a diagonal rail? What about a NW/SE diagonal crossing a NE/SW stretch of network? I've got the same question both for the puzzle pieces and for the automatically appearing overpasses (road over rail, ave over road, etc).

Any plans to make these other combinations possible?

Well, diag-diag and orth/diag would basically involve redoing every single transit tile made since the beginning of this project.

frogface: I get mixed successes with using RCI for retaining walls. Plazas will work, though.

Great Chozo, time warner does suck, I just moved into a new place as well, in Waco, and they take weeks and I had to keep reschedruling cause theyd come at the most inconvienent times.  I don't know if they just suck in Texas or if they are like that everywhere.
