Still looking great ... The use of the Porkissamo bats is great to see as well... I love those.

I think the night shots half way up the last page are some of my favourite in the CJ.

I think the industrial shots are also quite interesting.

Well done.

Welcome to page 21!!

Nardo69 -

Great to see an update here - and it was a really supurb one at that! I particularly like that industrial area and all those rail lines - very nice looking, very realistic.

Hope you can update again soon!

Hallo Bernhard.

Sorry that you had to wait a bit but I guess this is something we have in common, too ... 34.gifquote>

Indeed... 34.gif

Welcome back my friend. Great to see another update of Urland. It looks like you're becoming more and more urban 4.gif. I lilke the zone-mix a lot, looks very German. I especially like Willy-Brandt-Alle, very nice developments there. About the GLR: You always should lay the tracks first, then you can place the stations, otherwise the game's likely to crash... I had to learn the hard way 4.gif. But actually I like the elevated rail very much... it fits perfectly into the industrial area, good job.

Once again, very inspiring work my friend. Take care.

- Phil

PS: I'll cross my fingers for Deutschland in 'their' World Cup.

Another nice update!  Nice mixture of buildings!  The Industrial and harbor area looks quite nice!  I particularly like how the various rail and elevated rail networks are interacting there!  Great work

    Hello to All!

It took again longer than I thought ... King soccer took his tribute - but weren't that four great games the German Team played? Boy, last time I had such a good feeling at a cup it was 1996 and Germany became European Champion (in England that is!)

Anyway, here's the new update but as always before we can start:

    mightygoose: Thanks for the compliment!

wouanagaine: Well, your subscrption is still working. Actually I had no backup but my Mydocument folder was on another hardisk! But that was a severe warning and I made a complete Backup of Urland and my Pluginfolder this weekend!

And Moscow is only f*** cold in the winter but a lovely, green and fascinating place in spring!

shizu00: Thanks for the compliment and Welcome to Urland! I hope you like my highrises, too!

    ThePeoplesPerson: Thanks for the compliment!

Yoman3: Thanks for complimen! I appreciate alsthough this is the first time someone compares Urland with the south of France (With the East I could understand since I lived a very long time close to the Alsace and really appreciate it!)

John(Darmok): There will be some more snippets basically based on wikipedia and my personnel historic knowldege. Urland is not a story driven CJ but I like to see i as "faction" ... 10.gif

Well, about the GLR I do much better know and in my recent (second ...) big city I do appreciate GLR but it still dos CTD from time to time ... so I do save often and wash the dishes in the meanwhile ... 14.gif

That avenue was the first time I used marrast's great avenue divider for quite some time ... I heard his lots are lost ... what a loss... if you are interested I may ask the admins if I can upload his avenue divider

Hmm, that grey building is indeed a EA original (R$$$) . Not that it grows like Odd's homes but I see it from time to time - and it never grew in AVR? Strange ... 41.gif

A bit to early for "Have a nice weekend" so I say:

Survive the week! The Weekend has been further away ...

Fabiocb: Thanks for the compliment! Actually I am rather proud especiallz of this secrtion!

Kwakelaar: Thanks for the compliment my friend! I must confess it is a nice feeling having been away for some time in thes fast tines and yet not become forgotten! 1.gif. Actually I asked myself Iif I should really make a whole update about this part because I felt the same as you but on the other hand the Hafenviertel belongs to Gleiwemünde as the other parts so ...

Now I am curious about how you think about my CBD ...

owenluby: Thanks for the compliment and Welöcome to Urland! Hope you like my Highrise area, too!

Fox: I do agree about Porkissimo's work, they are great. And it was really fun to do Small Paris even though I normally I don't like to plop too much and prefer to let it grow. Now I am curious what you think about my highrises ...

kant01:  Thanks for the compliment! Well, recently I wasn't able to keep my weekly schedule ... hope it will become better!

Phil(PhilsCafe): Well, this time it'll be really urban and yet close to the farms ... As far as I know I ahven't seen any other CBD so close to rural settings that fits and I must say I am rather proud of it!

As I said to John, I am getting used to the GLR in other towns so ... 2.gif

Too bad for the suiss time but if you are not able to score on a penalty ... 28.gif

jacqulina: You are always welcome! You know, when I searched for a special way to say thank you to my loyal posters (and I am not good at PSP nor do I have photoshop) I thought why not making them a historical person in my CJ?

    Battlecat: Thanks for the compliment!

And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, I declare

    Update 15.15: Highrise! Part I

    open!

    An Overview over today's area

An Overview where we will go to today. And again some small summaries about some important historic German Persons:

    Heinrich Brüning

     (*26.11.1885 in Münster, +30.03.70 Norwich / Vermont(USA) )

took part in WW I and received the Iron Cross

Chairman of the DGB (interconfessional-christian union) and member of the Reichstag since 1924.

1929 chairman of the Zentrom (catholic conservative party)

12th German Reichskanzler of the Weimarer Republic 1930-32 in the most crucial time of the Weimarer republiuc. He tried with a recstrictive ploicy of deflation saving money to get rid of the severe crises due to the world economy crises as well as the enormous reparation Germany still had to pay.

1933 he closed the Zentrum party before the NSinterconfessional-christian Nazis could forbid them and emigrated to the USA in 1934 where he died in 1970.

Heinrich Brüning is a very controversial person - on the one hand he was called the "Hungerkanzler" (Chancelor of hunger) because of his restrictive policy of cutting back the expenses. On the other hand he could have handled the depression and prevented Hitler to get the power if Reichspräsident Hindenburg did not let him down.

    source: http://de.wikipedia.org

    Konrad Adenauer (05.01.1876-19-04-1967)

First Kanzler of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany; West Germany from 1949 to 1990)

Became Member of the Zentrum party in 1909 and was elected in 1917 as Lord Mayor of Köln (Cologne) as the youngest Lord Mayor of the Deutsches Reich. He was Lord Mayor of Cologne 1917-1933 and 1945. The Nazis took all of his honors and his house. At court he fought succesfully for compensation in 1937. He did not take part in the resistance and the try to kill Hitler of 20th July 1944.

1945 he became again mayor of cologne until the british discharged him becasue of "incompetence". From 1949 to 1965 Chancelor he tied West Germany to the "West", installed the Buneswehr (German Military) in 1955 and brought into the NATO.

There had been three assassination attempts again him committed by the jewish underground organisation Irgun. New sources seem to point out that Menachem Begin -  later prime minister of Israel - was organisator and initator of these bombings.

It is said that David Ben Gurion was thankful against Adenauer during his hole life not to disclose the true backgrounds of the assassination.

Theodor Heuss and Gustav Stresemann will follow in the next update!

Again nice history lesson Bernhard, didn't know that Menachem Begin could have been behind Adenauer assassination attempt!

The Azallengarten (Jardin des Azalées??) behind the museum, is a brilliant idea! I really like how that area looks! Very realistic and inviting with all the walkways.

Also like how you've used IlTonko's BAT. Very well done, together they have a very homogeneous look!

All in all a very good update my friend 44.gif

So Germany passed the first round, now advancing unto the next one... good luck my friend!

    Take care

I don't think many German cities can compete with this CBD, mighty impressive!.

Again the naming of streets and the details that we can see in the pictures, is making this into something else than your average high-rise forest.

And I see the farmland is not far away from the scrapers, if it wasn't for the air-co you could probably smell the cowdunge in those towers.

    Hey Nardo69-

Fantastic update! I love the street names in the zoomed out shots!

And so many great screen shots - I really like the highway signs and all the other little details like parks, and walkways, and plazas.

Everything looks so well laid out and developed.

Awesome job!!! Glad to have you updating again!

Wow, I never thought this day would come!  We see the magestic skyscraper appear in the rural world of Urland!  18.gif

Ah mate, its been far too long since I've popped my head in here!  And your City Journal is doing great!  Your images are just beautiful!  And you handle the downtown just as wonderfully and realistically as you do the rural!  The parks are just great, and the buildings are very european and fit perfectly in your city.

That is a great overview you have there, some truly nice design work!  You put alot of detail in, I like that!

Oh, and congradulations on 20 pages!  I am saddened that I haven't been in in so long, but I promise I will pop in more often, and I think I might have a look back at the many updates I've missed!

    Cheers mate, choco.

It seems to be I am doomed ...

as I have the same problem with my harddisk again... Windows starts up untill a certain point then the pc boots up ... again inconsisty with the hard disk... I can boot up by cd and look on drive C: with the good old dir command, and the dir command shows everything except the regions folder ...

Fortunately I made full backup 14 days ago so I may continue Urland as soon as my pc is working again - seems to be harddisk (which worked for 4 years without making ANY problems untill I had to change motherboard) or the motherboard or both ...

Right now I have only an old laptop with 256 mb RAM - I could install SC4 but I am sure I cannot run Urland with its 1,5 GB pluginfolder ... I have something experimental in my mind that should work with this laptop so let's wait and see...

    But before I leave:

aleking: well, to quote Douglas Adams: the increasingly inadequately named Cj... Naah, Urland will stay mostly rural with two big towns - and one of them is Gleiwemünde. Region view will be postes as soon as my pc is working again - promise!

Battlecat: Thanks for the compliment, regarding the region view: See answer to aleking!

mightygoose: well, in my pre-Digby times I tried to use any tile available ... and Gleiwemünde is my first post-Digby Bigtown, so ...

John(Darmok): Thanks for the compliment my friend. Interesting thing about those Ill-Tonkso-Skyscrapers is that I plopped them shortly after I downloaded them playing the town in between. This was necessairy as I do not use any demand mod in order not to kill especially the Cs$$$ and Co$$$ demand.

Glad you like the park. I designed them in a way that I asked myself how would John do this park?

About the cup, well, the italian team did ruin my day last night ...

    Take care!

Tommy_Vercetti3: Thanks for the compliment, especially that you like my parks!

Kwakelaar: I do appreciate your compliment my friend! About the cow dung, well, let us wait and see if there is something tcoming up ...

jacqulina: Thanks for the compliment! I would love to show you a region view but unfortunately ...

kant01: Glad you like the update but unfortunately I don't know when I can go on again ...

gurrgkud:  Thanks for the compliment! Isn't it a bit ironic: you start posting again and have to put mine on hiatus again ...

chocolatemax285: Thanks for the compliment and showing up again, choco! I just wish I had another update for you...

Some time ago Pinchman asked for the church I used. It is Bandito's St. Vincent of Bern, you can find this church and some other nice Bats including the magnificient Cathedral of Cologne here:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=Bandito&type=all

Wish me luck to get my pc working again ...

    AWESOME

Bernhard as usual you made a great work and as Choco and I already said, skyscrapers in Urland, things are changing and it still looks awesome oh and I noted there's a mate called Fabio who lived there, that's quite funny as Fabio isn't a very commun name outside Italy and Brazil (not that I know).

Sorry to hear that Bernhard, but a hard disk that's 4 years old! I guess that's about as old as a drive can be when it's being used regularly.

What you describe is either a faulty drive or just the motherboard I/O controller, have you tried with a separate HD controller on a PCI card? Just a thought!

Anyhow, I know you'll get it fixed. Good luck with it!

    Regards

    -John

First up ... you want my opinion on your highrises ... hmmm... Well I think you are  huge Ill Tonkso fan ... you have so many of his great bats popping up all over your City.. It's good to see.

I like how your City isn't so centralised... it will help to fill it out later on as the economy grows.

I think you have over done the seasonal trees though, only one critism... I tend to plop about 80% pine, with 20% seasonal .. that way you get a more natural looking City from above. But I guess it is upto what ever the user likes to do. Those seasonal trees do tend to suck up a lot of memory when they change seasons though...

Love the descriptions on the German historical figures... great reading, and learning at the same time as enjoying the great pictures... very sneeky.

    Hi Bernhard,

nachdem ich dir ja schon auf insims.de geschrieben habe, wie sehr mir dein CJ gefällt will ich das auch nochmal an der richtigen Stelle tun.

I really love your CJ. You have some unique ideas that gave me many inspirations for my own cities. I hope that you can fix your pc and keep up working on your region. I am looking forward to hopefully many updates to come.

    Hi Bernhard,

Hope you will be able to fix your computer.

I really like to see Urland with highrises. It is nicely done and the pics you took are very great.

Maybe I should start using highrises too! I'm also working on European cities and I always refuse to use alot of skyscrapers. But now that I saw the way you did...I can try!

Good luck my friend with your computer,

    Hoping another update soon...

    Take care!
