great! Let's see how you develop this city, your first with a port in it. What is the name of the signs pack for the RHW? Is it the German Autobahn signs?

The geography for that location definently fits. I'm also watching your RHW guide. I may pick up a few tips from it.

Great update, Haljackey. Can't wait for the next one.

hey hal. love the youtube vids, keep up the good work

(by the way, from reading the stats on the front page, i've came up with one sentence: I'd hate to be one of the 719,710 people without a job!)

That's very interesting to see how you've planned this all out. It's much more organized than my own haphazard lay-it-out-and-hope-for-the-best method2.gif. I'm sure your mass transit network will be a work of art, too!

Hello everyone, no new update today, but I do have some news to share with you.

I recently stumbled upon this thread, as some of you may already know, and asked myself a question. "If the GTR was located on Earth, where would it be?" .  Some of you have already given suggestions, and I am thankful for those.

However, I have been contemplating that, if the GTR wasn't fictional, what would be the best spot on Earth to call home.  I took a total disregard for the political map of the earth (namely countries, cultures and lifestyles) and focused on the physical geography of our planet.

The GTR needs to be in a location that...

    -Has a temperate climate

-Has a eastern coastline (can be either fresh or salt water)

-Has flat land near the coast, becoming more rugged as you head inland

-Physical appearance looks something like the region itself (many CJs are created on continents/islands but have a different shape than what's really there)

-A good amount of rainfall (not a desert, but not a rainforest)

-Good economic access (natural resources, near international shipping lanes, etc)

    -Other various aspects

Based on this information, I may have found a suitable home for the GTR:

    clipboard01zt1.jpg

What do you think?  Remember, don't factor in political or national influences.  This is southeastern South America, not eastern Argentina.

This is not a finalized location. I am open to any and all suggestions you have for me.  As long as it fits into some or all of the guidelines above, I will consider it.

In addition to this, I have begun to make a RHW Interchange Guide, which should prove useful to newcomers and veterans alike.  Check it out if you want to see some examples on how to make various RHW interchanges in SC4.

I'll get back to your wonderful comments the next time I update.  See you later!

    All the best,

    -Haljackey

Have you considered the east coast of florida? it might already be densely populated but... It also does not have a rugged interior but you region shots remind me somewhat of florida or the east coast of the US.

    Hellur?

All right, after many discussions I've had across the SC4 community, another possible location could harbor the GTR quite nicely.

What do you think?  I'm still open to any suggestions, as long as they fit the criteria I noted in my last post.

This is kinda fun!  Soon, the GTR will have a home.

    Best,

    -Haljackey

savannah Georgia, no doubt. I think maybe you should remake the GTR to fit with a real-world terrain. Plus you wouldn't hav to redo everything witht he RHW 3.0, u counld start from scratch.

I don't think Delaware fits realistically, but maybe the coast of South Carolina?

blue sinjid:  Yep, you can sure do a lot!

ComputerGuy890100:  Thanks!  Well, check the criteria I listed and make a decision based on that.

    buildsolid:  Thank you!  Hmm.. Maybe.

-Yep, that mosaic is big eh?

ecoba:  Thanks!  That's ok, I use Vista too. 3.gif

    GreekMan:  Yep lol!

Zezug:  Me neither!  I sure hope not!

    hamish:  Hey, thanks a lot!

IsaacTham:  Thanks!  Yes, I believe that's the name.

-Search for it in the most recent pages of the STEX.

    jacqulina:  Thank you very much!

    Victor Valdes:  Thanks a lot!

    rainyday:  Me too.  Thanks!

doironhebert123:  China eh?  I may consider it.  Thanks for your comments!

PhatHead:  lol Phat, you never run out of that 3.gif. Thanks!

Patricius Maximus:  Thanks for your input!  Yes, the interchange guide is going good now.

Jennings & Raul:  Hey, thanks a lot!  I'll be on the look out for it!

colonel1:  Thanks, always nice to hear that.

-Well, just remember they can commute to other cities for jobs.  Not all sims work either such as kids and the elderly.

    Schulmanator:  Hey, thanks a lot!

NMUSpidey:  ...And that's just the begining!  3.gif  lol, thanks for the comments!

driftmaster07:  Well, that's subtropical.  Check the criteria I listed and make a decision based on that.

    SimsRealator:  Thanks for your input!

rawr APPLES:  Seems too subtropical to me.  I need more of a temperate climate.

ComputerGuy890100 (2):  It could be neither.  Its going to be somewhere in the world though!

    -Any suggestions?

futurama2506sim:  Indeed.  I'm really considering that one.

TmiguelT:  Well again, that's subtropical.  I need a temperate climate.

Godzillaman:  Hehe, with Global warming raising sea levels, maybe the GTR will emerge on the sea's edge once all the ice melts!  3.gif

PhatHead (2):  Hmm maybe.  I might consider it.

rushman5:  Could work.  Let's say with others have to say about it.

    futurama2506sim:  lol, great toll eh?

remanh:  Maybe.  Have a location there in mind?

    doironhebert123 (2):  Good for you.

    Update time!

Aside from the developments I sated were going to be in this update, I have a few more pics of interest as a special treat!  A big thanks for putting the GTR in the spotlight!

This will also be my last update in SC4D's Of Special Interest This Month section.

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with SC4D's picture size limits (800x600 STRONGLY recommended for MD's).  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this Mayor's Diary (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

I am beginning to construct rail lines throughout the city.  Unlike other GTR cities, the emphasis on rails here will be on freight traffic.  Something has to take/bring goods to the port!

    TheLanding-Nov6071233199580.jpg

A rail line spurs out as it ends near the port area.

    -Note the highway setup too.

    TheLanding-Apr12081233200089.jpg

The main port side railroad runs parallel to the RHW-6C.  I have constructed proper underpasses while the space is still available.

    TheLanding-Jun7081233200284.jpg

Here's another underpass near the large Parclo interchange.

    TheLanding-Aug21081233200531.jpg

I really like what you can do with the raised rail viaducts.  Its too bad raised road networks don't have this ability yet.

    TheLanding-Nov3071233199549.jpg

The tracks end on the north side of the port.  The main freight station will be constructed here.

    TheLanding-Aug14071233199275.jpg

Okay, now its time for a few pics from across the GTR!

The main highway in Downtown has just been widened to a multi-RHW-12.

    Downtown-Jul32331232303794.jpg

The widening ends here where the highway swells at a major interchange.

-This was the first main interchange I reconstructed with RHW 2.0.  It was made with the first RHW version!

    Downtown-Jul52331232303844.jpg

Traffic is moving on a large multi-highway interchange.

    TheInterchange-Feb22011232733768.jpg

Some big, rich residential buildings are being constructed in a awkward area.

    TheInterchange-Mar2011232733851.jpg

    Mosaic

Here's a fun little mosaic I made.  It shows the "Super-avenue" in Downtown's east side.

    On-site its a modest 800x1311

But when you click for full resolution, its a massive 2548x2212!

    ascsaascasc.jpg

As for the GTR's location, once I get a few more areas, I may open it up to a vote.

I hope you enjoyed this update!

    Best,

    -Haljackey
