Congrats to the Trixies, hal! They are all very well deserved.

I always enjoy to see your attempts on transportation networks... very nifty work!

Nice updates and congratulations on your Trixie Awards. I particuluarily find enjoyable the gantries you used on your highways. Do you use generic signs or do they all say specific things?

As for seaports, are you planning on having a Naval base? I remember seeing a great Navy Base pack in a CJ a while back but can't find it on the stex.

Nice port preparation. I hope it turns out good. I trust your near-port infrastructure will more than make up for any weakness in your port construction 3.gif.

40 000 views and 2000 replies? In that event, your view-to-reply ratio is 20:1.

It may seem poor, but look at these ratios from some of the most replied to CJs:

Schulmania (Vol. 1 and 2) - 6:1

Nexis of Genesis - 36:1

Simtropia - 48:1

Jargeah - 8:1

Virgin Shores - 6:1

Franklin County - 8:1

As you can see, the GTR has the most in common in this statistic as two classic CJs, widely admired to this day. More recent CJs have lower ratios, perhaps due to the increased user population 42.gif. It's an interesting concept, but the GTR is not the place to discuss this extensively.

Keep building that port!

- Patricius Maximus

2000 replies and 40000 views. . This CJ's come far......wait, didn't I say that at 1000 replies? Meh....21.gif Well, either way, congrats on that.
The port looks great but I think I may see one teensy little problem....the port lots don't have road access! Otherwise looking great as usual.44.gif

Haha... its no where near its death, let me assure you that!

Sorry for the long delay everyone.  Seems that everything is forbidding me to update the GTR, School, my social life, work, family, and even SC4!

Yes, SC4 has been very mean to me lately.  Today I have had more crashes than ever before, including the good'ol Blue Screen O'Death11.gif

But its not like I didn't intend for that to happen 3.gif.  I've been pressing the game to its limit, working on airports, a seaport, a university and a lot of light rail.  I'll select a GLR puzzle piece and there just so happens to be a TE-station right next to the menu.  I move my cursor, and you know the rest of the story.

I've also been having a lot of trouble making the port.  Unlike ferry terminals and the Maxis seaport, it seems the custom stuff needs to be at a certain height- something I didn't plan for.  Issues with rail and whatnot have also been problems.

So the port won't be featured in the next update.  Instead I am nearly done a university, which I plan to show for the next update as well as this:

    The image

Yep, that's a A380... I finally got it to work!

And now the GTR is over 2,000 comments and 40,000 views, quite a milestone indeed.

If you look at other CJs in this range, you'll see the classics such as 3RR and Green Derpa, and its an honour to be among the best.

Anyways, just hold out a bit longer and I'll have a new update out!  I'll get replying to your wonderful comments at that time as well.

    All the best,

    -Haljackey

    Hi, I'm alive!

Wow, it's been a while. I haven't posted here since, what, November? Let's see... what happened in November that could possibly have distracted me from SC4... Oh, I know! I was trying to migrate my SC4 to Linux, that's it. Only I balked at the prospect of sorting all my plugins in preparation for dat-packing, and then I kind of lost interest in the game for a while. And then the beginning of this semester steamrollered me.

I'm loving everything new (though 'round about Page 64, Photobucket decided to tell me you've exceeded your bandwidth). I'm always amazed at the sheer volume of immensely tall buildings. And congratulations on the Trixies! I think I had something else interesting to say, but I forgot what it was. Looking forward to more!

    Replies:

SWAT-MEDIC:  Hey, thanks a lot!  Me neither!

    un1:  Thank you!  I wonder....

ky72x:  I guess not 3.gif.  Thank you so much for all your comments!

Archean:  Thanks a lot!  Yeah, I'm still working that out.

-Thanks for the info!  I downloaded a ton of Peg's stuff.

    PhilsCafe:  Thanks, you too!

ComputerGuy890100:  Thanks!  I got a ton of em downloaded now!

Theirishnintendonerd:  Thanks a lot!  So am I!  2.gif

Blue Lightning:  Thanks so much!  As do I!

IsaacTham:  As usual, I thank you for your comment!  3.gif

    ShadeSlayer:  Thanks a lot!

blue sinjid:  Hehe, thanks a ton!

    rainyday:  Me too!

    aaglo:  Thank you very much!

Heblem:  Hey, thanks a lot!  It's what I'm known for!

dfnva:  Thank you very much!  Nope, just whatever looks good.  I have a ton of Pegs lots now, including the navy bases.

Patricius Maximus:  Well even though its a high ratio, most of the bigger CJs have similar stats.  Green Derpa and Adun Valley are prime examples.

-However there are some exceptions to this rule.  Interactive CJs like Blue Hope and Virgin Shores have a low ratio along with Shulmania.  City of Edmonton has a VERY high ratio because of it being that good 3.gif.  It's been viewed by citizens of Edmonton and city planners.

kj3400:  Indeed it has.  Hehe... Thanks a lot!

penguin007:  Well there's always room for improvement 3.gif.  Thanks for the info!  I'll look into it!

futurama2506sim:  Thanks!  Never say never... 3.gif

    jacqulina:  Thank you!  No problem!

    suplado!:  Hehe, always!  Me neither!

    ac94:  See my post above.

Cheese89:  Thanks Cheese!  Always great to see you here!

    Joetropian1:  Thanks!  It's what I'm known for!

    jacqulina (2):  As am I.

    rainyday (2):  As I am.

Blue Lightning (2):  Thank you very much!

Petrovar Ambassador:  Thanks a ton!  It means a lot!

futurama2506sim (2):  Yes it did.  Yours did too?  So it wasn't just me!  3.gif

Alafel:  Never doubted it.  Yes a lot has happened here as you can see.  Thanks a lot for all your comments!

-Even with 5 accounts, I am still having bandwidth problems with photobucket.  Those pics should be restored shortly.

    ComputerGuy890100 (2):  I know eh?  SC4 can cause it!

    Update time!

This update will show something that I have been working on for a bit behind the scenes.  Whoever thought the GTR's universities were just the Maxis ones needs to take a good look at this update.  Yes, Witburg University has arrived!

This update will be a tour around the campus.

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with STs picture size limits.  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this City Journal (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

In the central part of campus, you'll see a lot of Maxis-influenced areas.  The odd-shaped building at the top is the main library.

    -Eek!  Sorry for the sidebar!

    Witburg-Jun23891234989832.jpg

But as we zoom out, you can tell this is not the case for the whole university.  The tall building seen here is the Eleavtor tower, and the media research centre below the bullet train interchange.

    Witburg-Jul20891234990201.jpg

Here's a better look at the new bullet train interchange.  Smaller than the bullet train clover I showed a few updates ago, its compact, efficent design keeps the trains running on time!

    Witburg-Jul8891234990017.jpg

Light rail is the primary mode of transportation in the university area.  A great example of this is the line heading towards central campus, making effective use of the new T-RAM and the loop to create dedicated platforms at the station for exit and entry.

    Witburg-Jul15891234990114.jpg

In the north part of campus, we see the natural science centre and the area where the city and the university converge.

    Witburg-Jul16891234990135.jpg

Parking garages, a research centre, and a convention centre in the university's east end.

    Witburg-Jul17891234990153.jpg

A highway interchange marks an entrance to campus.  At the top of this photo is a popular shopping centre, which boasts a light rail station for easy transportation.

High-tech corridor in the south part of campus.

    Witburg-Jul9891234990034.jpg

    The university community centre.

    Witburg-Jul9891234990051.jpg

As you head away from the university, several of Witburg's stadiums are found, and the university puts them to good use!

-If the GTR ever hosted the Simlympics, the majority of the events would take place in Witburg.

    Witburg-Jul19891234990176.jpg

The eastern entrance to campus.  Several lecture halls and residences are seen here as well.

    Witburg-Sep12891235001179.jpg

The western edge of the university is bounded by a RHW-10.

-This used to be a multi-highway, but I "downgraded" it to a RHW-10 during university construction.  Although it loses a lane per direction and its collector/express system, carefully planned interchanges are along the route to ensure maximum efficiency.

    Witburg-Jul12891234990078.jpg

A zoom-out of the university in its current state.  The developed part of Witburg is to the northeast.

    Witburg-Jul23891234990252.jpg

    Funny Pic:

Not related to the university at all, but it appears after adding the A380 I forgot how big they were!  I think I need some bigger gates!

    Crossings-Feb202241234319988.jpg

    -More on that later.

Anyways that will do it for this update.  I hope you enjoyed the tour of the university.

    Best,

    -Haljackey
