Heh heh...I like how you have 5 comments on a page that no one can access yet 3.gif.  Page Flip bug is harsh, is it not?

Anyways, I really love your placement of these stadiums!  I'm sure the sports aficionados in your city will love you for them 4.gif!  Personally, my favorites were

From the first update:

- #3 (for its placement by the sea and proximity to that pda tower, which I sadly don't see in enough CJ's/MD's 45.gif)

- #6 (because of the sleek design and the matching color scheme of the area)

- #8 (because it's a New York stadium surrounded by a New York style towers)

- #10 (Because I like that stadium a lot 3.gif)

From the second update:

- #1 (because of its placement)

- #2 (because it's the Toyota Center! 9.gif)

- #3 (because it's a colorful stadium, and because of its proximity ot the RHW...or is that the GHW Re-Styling Mod?)

- #8 (because it's a very modern and cosmopolitan building in a very modern and cosmopolitan area 10.gif)

- #9 (not because of the stadium, but because of the wide varieties of res towers)

This is a great homage to the Olympics 48.gif!

Also...in all of these pictures, I really like the amount of high-density Res Tower BAT's you have.  They all look really nice to me in these areas because these are where I'm used to seeing them (around sports stadiums, I mean; I know the old Compaq center of Houston was surrounded by tall res towers and hotels).  You've done a really fine job with your city, and it's slighly surprising that I make my first appearance here commenting on perhaps the only two updates where your highways and interchanges aren't the main attraction.  Strange...41.gif

Anyways, I'll be looking foward to the next updates!  Keep up the good work 44.gif

P. S. In case you haven't seen it yet, I wrote a blog about our chat escapades [right here].  A bit silly...but so much fun 3.gif!

    Replies:

Patricius Maximus:  Thanks a lot!  Glad you like the Toyota Centre and the baseball stadium!

068664663:  Good!  You can find that train station here:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=3616

edmonton_stinks:  Hey, thanks a lot!  Glad you enjoyed the Olympic specials!

Goldfish4209:  Thanks!  A lot of it is, but the arena is a custom lot made with Maxis props.

Jim1994:  Thank you very much!  Always nice to see you here!

jacqulina:  Hey, thanks a lot!  Glad you are enjoying it!

superchad:  Thanks!  The Tokyo dome?  I believe I downloaded it from SOMY's site or another Japanese one.  Check the Japanese BAT threads.

dfnva:  Yes.  The good infrastructure keeps it under control, but there are still some problem spots.  Every city has those!

Twenty20:  Hehe... Glad you do!  Glad you like the mix of content in the region!

rushman5:  You like commenting here better?  I consider ST home base for The GTR (as well for the entire commnunity), so I am glad you posted here!

Yoshiisland:  Thanks!  Ya that night on chat was very fun!  9.gif

    ilikehotdogsalot:  Thanks a lot!

Interchange:  Good luck 3.gif.  Send me a PM about which ones you want and I will see what I can do to help you!

pagenotfound:  Thanks!  Always great to see you here 404!

masochist:  Yep, thats the good old page flip bug for you!

-Glad you enjoyed many of the pictures!

-I also appreciate the comment on the mix of "cosmo" buildings in the region.  Most of the stuff is just grown from zones, and I guess that's the way they turned out.

-Making your first appearance in a long CJ is hard to do, and I appreciate the comments!  I look forward to hearing more from you when the updates are actually about "highways and interchanges", but there is much more to this region as you can clearly see.

-Thanks for the blog link!  Hehe,, that was a fun night!  9.gif

masochist (2):  Thanks for flipping the page!  3.gif

hamish:  Thanks!  Sorry, but a zoom out is not possible because, like you said, they are spread out throughout the region.

manubeas:  Wow, thanks!  Glad I could "amaze" you!  To get a lot of those buildings, search for the most popular and highest rated content on the STEX.

-Thanks for placing an "ad" in your signature!

    Update time!

Its time for an industrial update!  As stated in my introduction, I do not use a lot of industry in the GTR, and for good reasons.  However, there are areas where industry can fit, and function well.

In addition, I am really not the best with zoning and placement of industrial areas.  I just like something that works and looks good in the game.  You will not see a lot of realistic freight yards and the sort in this region, as I merely zone and see what grows.

Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this industrial showcase!  If you know of a way to improve my industrial areas, please let me know!

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with ST's picture size limits.  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this city journal (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

A fairly typical look at a industrial area in The GTR.  Good road and rail connections help keep freight times under control.

    TerranSettlement-Aug6431217907823.jpg

    Industry along the basin:

    TerranSettlement-Aug19431217908023.jpg

    Inner arteries:

    TerranSettlement-Aug8431217907886.jpg

I am not too sure why all the traffic is using one lane on this very busy avenue.  Also note the rail connections parallel to it.

    TerranSettlement-Aug8431217907907.jpg

Heading out of the area, we see how the infrastructure handles the increasing freight traffic:

    TerranSettlement-Feb25431217906999.jpg

    Power plant and surrounding insustry:

    TerranSettlement-Aug20431217908086.jpg

The same picture, but at night.  I love the glow!

    TerranSettlement-Aug22431217908119.jpg

Rail overpass.  The rail system is grade separated in the GTR.  (Well, 99% of the time  3.gif)

    TerranSettlement-Aug8431217907869.jpg

Ferry Terminal.  The roads are very busy in this area.

    TerranSettlement-Aug19431217908063.jpg

Finally, I will leave you with a picture of this area.  I plan to totally reconstruct the roads and bullet train lines in the area to beef up capacity before the area is developed.

    TerranSettlement-Sep27431217908881.jpg

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this update!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

A very nice showcase of your industry. You pretty much do the same I so -- reserve an area for industry, zone it, and see what grows. I find that this looks the best, as opposed to sprawling factories and freight yards (well, sometimes they look good; but not in a R and C region).

That glow on that power plant looks alienish. Are you sure there aren't any in there?

    Beautiful, as always.

I still think industry in GTR is sacrilege, though it is well done. The glow from the power plant certainly is great.

Dude, show some respect for the CJ. Don't just badger him for some custom content and then leave.

Anyway, awesome update! The industrial area is pretty slick, you've got some great custom content there... I love the glow on that power plant too. There are a lot of features I like, such as that small forested area in the 5th pic, and the rail lines  And of course your transportation networks are insane as usual (in a good way). 10.gif

-No, no aliens in the power plant 3.gif

edmonton_stinks:  Well, it is!  Glad you like the area and the power plant!

jmoats3:  Hey, thanks a lot!  I got most of those buildings on the STEX.  Many of which were uploaded recently!  You could find a ton of them if you check the latest dozen or so pages.

Goldfish4209:  Thanks!  Yes I do use some custom content for my industrial areas.  Like I said to jmoats3, a lot of those buildings are new, so its understandable you haven't seen them before!

Mr. Monorail Man:  I sent you a PM.  It is not a ferry.

TV-VCR:  Thanks for the response and the comment!  Glad you like the industrial area, the rail lines, the transportation network and the power plant!

hamish:  Thanks a lot!  Ya, I really like that building too.  I think it fits well in that picture.

deion30296:  Yes it is.  Glad you like the curved avenue and the bullet train network!

rainyday:  Thanks!  I told you about where I got those in ST-chat, but if you forget, check the latest dozen or so pages in the STEX.

Theirishnintendonerd:  Thanks!  What El-rail?  Its bullet train man!  Glad you like the power plant!

n-m-2k8-yeah:  Nope, you didn't 3.gif.  Thanks a lot for your comments!  That "pier thing" is actually a cruise ship port I think.  Its a Japanese download and I forget where I got it from.  It may have been from SOMY's site.

Mr. Monorail Man (2):  Hmm... Well I am not sure.  That's just a prop!

pagenotfound:  Yay!  Glad I could keep it awesome for you!

    Update time!

Its time for more of a classic update.  It will focus on the canopy of Terran Settlement.  You may have seen some of these photos before in development, but you have not seen the end result!

Keep in mind that the vast majority of the buildings are grown, not plopped in The GTR, so a little building repetition is to be expected.

That does it for this update!  Don't worry, I haven't forgot about what else is happening in the region!  Its a big place!

In addition, The GTR's Olympic Showcase was shown in the Simlympic Torch Relay!  Click HERE to see it!

Also, this CJ is nearing 1,000 replies and 20,000 views!  I thank you all for your continued contribution to the GTR!

Amazing 6.gif! Love all the custom content. Oh and Thanks looked up somys site for that pier thing in my last reply and found it there. Wasn't what I was looking for though 20.gif oh well. I really like the buliding in the middle of the 9th picture ( I think 3.gif) with all the terraced balconies and the glass centre tower!

Excellent industrial area, the flower power plant at night is very beautiful, I have it also but nightlighting don't works in my game... You've done an excellent transportation network. The full resolution is very good to appreciate your city.
