    RESPONSES

crazyyaya: Thanks, the downtown Sessquenna area is very hilly.

suplado!: To clear things up the map is only of a very small area.  Sessquenna is the home of about 80,000 sims now.

dfnva: Thanks, an update region view or a complete region map or a transportation view?

bbfan02: Thanks, the map turned out well, but I am trying to figure out how to efficiently represent rails, because it is very time consuming to make it the way i did on the map.

sim co.: Thanks, I try 4.gif  Yes construction can be noisy.

Mike the Mayor: Thanks, "great work"?  I'm flattered.

GreekMan: Thanks, glad you like it.

haljackey: Thanks, I like road networks.

suomi2005: I have to keep it up with those farms 4.gif

Nice regional views, I like how realistically that the city gradually blends into the farmland. Regarding your question, I would like to see a labled transportation view since you number/name many of your roads. I love looking at labled road maps of various folks' regions, especially people who plan their roads well.

    Keep up the good work,

    Dan

Well I'm trying to build an airport, but it is a difficult confusing undertaking 15.gif  I have no idea what I am doing.  I'm using RMIP and SWAP, but I have no idea how to put the pieces together to make a real airport.

Good luck, that's something I've had yet to attempt. When I d/led the Modular Amusement Park pack, I didn't know excactly how I should put it together, but it was actually fun mixing up the different rides with other puzzle pieces I had lying around such as pedestrian tiles from the NAM, PEG ponds and streams, trails, etc. At any rate, I'm sure that the amusement park I put together is not the world's finest, but it's fine enough. I'll look forward to see what you come up with.

    Sessquenna UPDATE 7

It has been a short while, but looking at the overview of my last update, the region has grown quite a bit on the north bank of the Sessquenna River (big main river).  This update will not address that progress, but stay tuned for an update focusing on those awesome developments.  This update we will look at rapid development on the south bank of the Sessquenna River to the west of Marble Creek (the creek flowing south from the Sessquenna).  I am really striving for realistic industrial areas and a kinda rundown look in the core residential areas.  ENJOY!

    Update area

    Sessquenna Downtown south bank

Business district along the south bank of the Sessquenna River including the Columbus Center, Columbus Field, and Columbus Park.

    Columbus Center

    Beckum Elementary School

    Beckum Elementary School

    James Locust High School

    James Locust High School

New Elevated Rail line currently connects south bank downtown to north bank downtown.

    New El Line

Businesses on E London Ave ranging from a pet store to an adult-oriented store.

    Businesses on E London Ave

E Ashland Ave - S Cass Ave (STA) Rail Station

St. Paul Lutheran Church on the corner of E St Paul Ave and S Cass Ave

    E Ashland Ave

Thanks to simgoober for the incredible number and variety of commercial lots he has created that you will see throughout this journal.  I discovered a treasure at SC4Devotion and BSC lot exchange, many things exclusively found there 4.gif

Looks cool, I see how some of the residential areas look a bit drab as you were trying to do. Honestly, despite the fact that most don't strive for that, I like having run-down areas in my regions, just to show the organic changes that areas face as demographics change and such.

    Sessquenna UPDATE 8

Well I am quickly feeling overwhelmed in my expanding region, so much to show and document and plan.  I also am starting to have difficulties with commute time, which is odd since up to this point it hasn't been an issue and the residents that are complaining are no further from jobs than anyone else.

This update will introduce the first freeway to Sessquenna (though it is rather small and limited in its infancy).  I initially built it to one destination but then changed it, including removing my custom-made interchange which was not going to work in the space constraints.  What you see now is pretty set in stone.  I initially planned to upgrade (in the future) FH 15 to freeway tearing through a neighborhood, but I am instead going to put the freeway in a different direction going around the development and better serving the community.

    Projected area for "Riverfront" freeway

    Riverfront

    Construction of freeway and overpasses

    Complete section of freeway

Completed downtown freeway, exits to downtown, convention center

    Completed

FH 17 Union Blvd overpass.  E Riverfront Dr carried STH 27 designation before construction of the freeway.

    Union Blvd Bridge

New professional baseball stadium (MUNICIPAL STADIUM)

    Municipal Stadium

Riverfront Dr and EAST STH 27 EXIT

    Riverfront Dr STH 27 Exit

Queens Interchange taking its name from nearby Queens University to the west.  SOUTH FH 15 crosses the Sessquenna River south into Covington Neighborhood and becomes S Monroe Dr.  Plans call for an east-west freeway crossing the Sessquenna River to the east and bypassing Covington Neighborhood.

    Queens Interchange

    FH 148 - E 10th St EXIT

FH 15 is incomplete but will someday continue north through Atkinson Neighborhood

FH 148, FH 15 interchange, incomplete

    FH 15 Covington Bridge

    FH 15 Covington Bridge

FH 15 Freeway Ends...Initially plans called for FH 15 to continue south as a controlled access freeway, but protests stopped construction.

    FH 15 Freeway Ends

Future updates will tour these roads, complete with signs!!!

    HIGHWAY SIGN KEY:

FEDERAL HIGHWAY (Similar to U.S. Highway in United States)

    Federal Highway Sign

SESSQUENNA STATE HIGHWAY (Similar to state highways in the United States specifically Wisconsin)

    State Highway Sign

COUNTY HIGHWAY (Similar to County routes in Wisconsin, United States)

    County Highway Sign

My downtown right now is a mess, so that will be saved for a future future update, until my city has reached 300,000 residents, (196,000 cur

I know all those legs of Elvevated Freeway must have cost you as well as some of those bridges, did you take out any loans or just have enough money built up for the project?

Also why do you use so many cruves in your streets, roads, aves, freeways and rails? Nothing wrong with it (well maybe a little unreal for rails) I'm just wondering if you like how it looks or something.

Anyway good building and going around the area insted of plowing a freeway through is always best.

Quick reply to Markus J:  The reason I have those curves is so that the roads, and railroads have a gentle curve, or travel in a direction other that the 45 degree angles the game forces.  I'll post a transportation map in the future so you can see how it looks more realistic...check out a recreation city journal such as EDMONTON or Lincoln, Nebraska and you'll see that they do it for that for realisms sake.

ROADGEEKERY!!!! WOOHOO!!! That's a great update with the freeway construction and your explanation of routes, etc. I also like your choice for retaining walls.

Is your region at all based on Harrisburg, PA (Sesquenna is very similar to Susquehanna and US 15 goes the there)?

At any rate, I look forward to more!

    RESPONSES

dfnva: Yes ROADGEEKERY!!!  No my region isn't based on Harrisburg, PA.  Susquehanna is where I must have derived Sessquenna subconsciously.  My region map is Cincinnati, so I reference that and cities in my area Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I really like to have a lot of medium-wealth housing, but I also like to have nice rundown areas, and soon in the suburbs some high-wealth sprawling neighborhoods.

I built a pretty rudimentary airport, one one-mile long runway.

anarchy0029: Thanks, I look at some of those amazing journals reviewed in the Journal Review thread, and I feel mine pales in comparison, but as long as you guys likeit 4.gif.

bbfan02: I really like the residential areas now because I use this mod that makes most all low-density medium wealth houses only holding 5 SIMS, moves the house up to the street and puts a garage and driveway, looks really nice.  I'm trying to complete a historical road system before I implement any more freeways, really want to show the changes from old Federal Highways (similar to US Highways) to Interregion / Freeways (Interstates).

I like the street names, too.  Definitely a must for a complete journal!

aleking: Definitely North American, because I am from Wisconsin.

jacqulina: Thanks.  I actually haven't heard any complaints about the grids yet, hmm.

jrone3: I'm a roadgeek and liked making maps when I was younger, so now I'm putting that into SimCity and trying to mimic dfnva's style of road journal.

DarkEldar: Great to see a new face and to have a new reader.  Hope you enjoy.

MarkusJ: The reason I have those curves is so that the roads, and railroads have a gentle curve, or travel in a direction other that the 45 degree angles the game forces.  I'll post a transportation map in the future so you can see how it looks more realistic...check out a recreation city journal such as EDMONTON or Lincoln, Nebraska and you'll see that they do it for that for realisms sake.  I have a lot of money in my city because I downloaded some industry that pays a LOT of taxes.  I didn't intentionally load this lot for that reason, but it is an added bonus and I don't need simoleon trees...

I think have farms surrounding and blending into the city make it look more realistic. I have always had comments regarding the stark end to the city in previous regions and farms and thick forests help dispel that.

GreekMan: I would like to do a downtown update, but right now my downtown is kinda shabby.  It is definitely in the future.

Mike the Mayor: Hopefully I keep up the good planning, sometimes I lose vision and I make a mess.

lucky7: Trying for a perfect blend of rural and big city like in the real world.

suplado!: Thanks, the region views are always my favorite.
