Wow, I swear I haven't seem 50% of the BATs on that picture. But all I can really say is that is the most convincing and most amazing Central African City I've seen in SC4.

Great Work :D

I have been to Western Africa and I can say this looks very realistic. Where did you get all of these buildings? I generally recognise everything but about half of these buildings I have never seen before, like that building on the corner with the big billboard. I assume this city is not functional and is all plopped? What road texture is that?

Huston & Elavery: Thank you! Coming from SC4 Pros like you guys, I really appreciate the comment. I'm currently trying to recreate the atmosphere of an African City, loosely based on cities like Luanda, Angola, Maputo, Mozambique or South African Cities, using messy urbanization and postmodern/brutalist architecture, mixed with some more colonial elements. It is not an easy task considering that I never been to Subsaharan Africa and there are no African buildings in the game (except the Johannesburg soccer city stadium).

Anyways, I used the following elements:

  • Bixel's HK buildings (I turned them into props to use them with the LE)
  • LBT Office Pack, a mega prop pack available for download on the STEX
  • Erjolog's Peruvian buildings from the city of Lima (available on the STEX)
  • Some Polish Buildings downloaded from Simcitypolska.com (including the rusty tower on the left)
  • TG Krio Buenos Aires Pack(the 2 corner buildings with the Mercedes and Panasonic billboards)- The pack should be still available for download on Paeng's personal website. You need Krio props for those buildings as a dependency.
  • Debussyman props (the corner building on top of the picture with a rusty billboard on it), most of them are included in the LBT Mega Prop Pack (available on the STEX)
  • Harishna's Mexico City Bat Collection (available on the STEX)

Everything you can see on that picture is made using the LE, I transformed most Models into prop in order to use them on the LE. The street textures come from a personal pack of textures made by former LBT BATter Heblem for a custom project. It is not available for download and unfortunately I can't send it to you guys because it is very large and mine has lots of missing items.

Thanks again for your comments!

Bits of it even remind me of Lagos, although Lagos is less clean, plus in Lagos the market stalls are in the middle of roads, not on the side!!!  It actually looks a lot like Nairobi or Harare. Thanks for info about the BATs, I think I have most of them hidden away in my plugins somewhere. Shame the road texture is not available. I very much hope to see more of your work soon, I remember fondly your Brazilian CJ.

I present to you downtown Takehara. Currently the largest city in my massive in-progress region. Also the capitol of the first of several micro-states. The second micro-state is being developed at the region's southern edge. This city boasts a population of 220,000 sims and sits densely populated on a relatively large island surrounded by farmland and smaller towns. The island it sits on consists of two other large tiles which are also developed. This, though, is the largest chunk of the island. Construction of new neighborhoods of apartments and stores/offices are just beginning on the other side of the bridges.

Remember that smaller cities and small towns have downtowns or central business districts, too.  Sure, there may be no impressive skyscrapers, but small town downtowns are no less thriving and helps make a town a community.  Small town downtowns usually have their own character as well.

I present the downtown of Lake Klein, population 5,200:

That's very pretty, gives a nice urban/rural feel. I would love a town like this at the base of a mountain. Where did you find those downtown aged buildings? I'm interested.

Good work!

The downtown buildings are varied, but a majority of them are from JBSimio's Smalltown USA series, which I think is available on SimCity Devotion's LEX.  Other buildings are from spa's Halifax series here on the STEX and from BSP, also here, I think, from the STEX.

@Superbacon: That's an awesome looking area - I really like the feel of the city. Dense, but not too dense, and a sense of green poking through. Hope to see more! :)

Thanks mate. I do have more coming. But I build these cities up from villages to what you see. So it'll take a while.

Incredible. What mods are you using on your elevated rail? Is that the alternate texture that comes with NAM? What about the pavement running underneath it?

what do ya think? its pretty compact, but its my first "kinda" big CBD or city for that matter, 320, 000 inhabbitants :D

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

I think it's kind of nice. Its compactness doesn't disturb me, and actually there are some parks and green areas, so it's not a mere concrete jungle. My only suggestion: You should place an airport at a city's border, not in its center. I don't know how other people think about this, but I for my part don't want to live next to an airport.

Well, I first am for that - no airport near any city :D

But, I wasn't going much for realism, just to see how would my Sims react and would they use the roads I built them - I figured that rich Sims do not want to travel far, although poor sims will travel if needed 5 big city tiles :D

Realism is coming up soon. I hope - also, used a demand mod for this.

That's actually a Rail Viaduct, not El-Rail. Yoshi must have mistaken the El-Rail station as a Rail Viaduct station.

Can't remember, but I am sure it is a BSP one.

I had the question...all the other buildings in that picture are staples of mine, but I can't place that one.  Amazing pictures/CBD!

yeah i should have noticed the difference between the tracks. i'd never got the hang of using the victorian stations with viaducts until yesterday. that post made it all come together.

fatjuice888 - excellent. i like the self-control. there aren't towers everywhere. i'd move that airport though.

The Phoenix airport is right next to the downtown. It's kind of convenient. The airport is more or less the center of Phoenix metro.

No I didn't. That particular station comes as both a viaduct rail and el-rail station, of which I have used the viaduct rail version. You can drag heavy rail through it :P
